Very interesting topic brother Paul as usual, still watching this video, I watched the video you did with Dr Louay about the indeed controversial topic of abrogation. Another small, but might be significant, is what brothers of Yousef used to come and carry the Goods on in Quran is Camels … while in the Biblical story it was Donkeys.. the significance is the distances they were travelling and the needs to carry big amounts of Goods which only camels can !

Yes, so interesting. It is so fascinating after some deep study of the Bible and the Quran and then see a qualified person compare the two. It is fascinating how the Quran constantly subverts the biblical message (in a good way) like how Jacob's death scene becomes about God and not about tribes.

The story of Yusuf (es) is not only beautiful in its content but style. Ibn tayyimiah thought when Quran talks surah Yusuf (es) to be the best of قصص which could be interpreted by best in style or rhetoric that can be said of course for every ayah in any case. It’s unique virtue as masterpiece in everything, whether , content, style rhetoric etc. The story is precise and beautifully related with many lessons that can be extracted from each and every verse. There were two Saudi brothers Who extracted 1000 lessons from the story of Yusuf (es) MashaAllah. Asma. Haq. Yusuf.

@exhale inhale Haney is not reliable and comes up with fringe interpretations. The man claims he has been revealed a secret way to interpret the quran, and those before him did not do it correctly and his way is the correct way. Don't promote that man. Farid responds has exposed him already
1:43:00 this theory of Prophet Muhammad (sas) compiling all these known and unknown sources in order to produce the Qur'an becomes even more ridiculous when you consider the mere time it would consume of a person. How on earth should the Prophet be able to have done it during his migration to Medina, all the battles, being a husband, father, friend, imam and so on. We would have to hear : oh on this occasion he was unavailable because he was compiling/putting together the Qur'an 🙈 but nobody ever claimed this about the prophet. And on top of it, imagine, all of this in the oral form 🤯 so at the end this orientalist arrive at a theory which in itself would require a miracle in order to be true 😅 In any case: barakallahu fik brother Paul for the excellent kind of content you provide.
Pretty incredible. Just had a talk with a christian friend and we talk about the issue of the name Pharaoh not being in use during Joseph’s time. He wanted proofs, well Allah is the best of planners.
Brother Paul, a kind suggestion: it would be great if you show the guest and your image a little bit bigger, you have a room .. it is nice to see you guys while you are speaking plus the text does not need to be so huge.. 2 third of the screen for the text and 1 third (your images). thanks may Allah protect you give you light, increase your knoweldge and give you success in both world and your loved ones and all of us amin.
The Pharaoh at the time of Joseph is called a king in the book of _Jubilees_ , dated to c. 200 BCE; after the _Torah_ had been composed and 900 years before the composition of the Qur'an. _Jubilees_ was a well known text already, and is clearly a source used to compose both the Qur'an and biography of Muhammad. Qur'an Chapter 12 is demonstrably a written account of an oral text, a retelling of the Joseph story found in Genesis, Chapters 37-50 (but also from other sources, as mentioned above). As the guest speaker explains, the Genesis story of Joseph is more detailed than the Qur'an (i e. provides details, such as names, locations, etc, which are mostly absent in _Sura_ 12). This should be expected in a retelling, where literary texture is typically lost due to forgetfulness and other (often intentional) changes to the narrative text: oftentimes, names and numbers are forgotten during retellings, as only the gist is conveyed. By way of example, the Qur'an doesn't identify the traders who bought Joseph; does not mention the names of Joseph's brothers; does not tell of Joseph's age or how much he was sold for; and so on. The emphases of the story are changed too: the trauma of Jacob's grief at losing his favourite son is lost in the Qur'an, which adds theological elements to the text (as noted in the presentation). No doubt, many textual variations in the Joseph story occurred during its transmission and performance, such that the Qur'an version itself may have been adapted for its audience multiple times before being canonised; such as the story of Jacob having his sight returned to him by having his head covered by a piece of Joseph's clothing. After all, the biblical story repeatedly tells us that Jacob could see (e.g. Gen. 42:35; 45:27; 46:30).
It's worth noting that the Qur'ān seemingly uses 'Pharaoh/فرعون' as a proper name rather than a mere title (like al-malik ~ the king), since the word lacks the definite article and is indeclinable (ghayr munṣarif) because it doesn't receive tanwīn (nunation) - Firʻawnᵘ as opposed to Firʻawnᵘⁿ, as is the case with other foreign proper names in the Qur'ān (Ibrāhīmᵘ, Ismāʻīlᵘ, Hārūnᵘ etc.)
@@noahrue470 Thank you, Noah, for your valued response. I hope you don't mind that I have added your comment to my Qur'an notes. Of course Hebrew grammar does not contain the definite article, but simply refers to 'Pharaoh' (פרעה). Perhaps this could be one reason why the Qur'an uses the name, فرءون, as a proper name rather than a title?
@Gavin James It wouldn‘t explain why the Qur'ān uses Firʻawn as a proper name only for the Pharaoh of Exodus, since the Hebrew Bible applies the given term without a definite article for several rulers, and not simply for the former. After all, numerous Qur'ānic commentators _do_ assert that he had a distinct proper name (often given as al-Walīd bin Muṣʻab). Of course, despite these grammatical concerns, I don‘t fully rule out that it could be a mere title transformed into a quasi-proper name in the Qur'ān, similar to how Arabic Islamic sources use the general term Qayṣar (Caesar) as a sort of proper name for Emperor Heraclius.
@@noahrue470 I actually checked _Genesis_ 41:1 (JPS _Tanakh_ , Hebrew-English), because I'm interested in the Joseph story, here. But I think you are correct concerning the grammar. Thank you.
Watch Nouman Ali Khan's "Surah Yusuf" series to really appriciate the amazing story. It's long but worth it. Bayinnah also has about 3 episodes (that I could find) for Bible/Qur'an comparison on Joseph (pbuh).
If you want to learn the true story of Yusuf, go check the marvelous Quran channel on RUclips for the Truth derived from within the Quran. I'll give you a spoiler... There were no sex scenes...
I expected the King-Pharaoh naming difference to be a much lengthy subject in this discussion. It was only a few minutes. But also learned many more subtle differences.
Scholarly discussion bordered on realistic evidences, comparative resources and prevailing misconceptions. The story of Prophet Joseph (aws) as narrated in the Holy Qur'an, shed lights to some inconsistencies contained in the bible and added more realistic true happenings... Allah Wakbar!
I have only read the story of Joseph once and only briefly in the Bible. What struck me odd about it all is it starts normal Gen 37, then 38 totally tails off and begins a weird story about his brother Judah sleeping with his daughter in law by accident because he thought she was a roadside prostitute, fathering two illegitimate sons by her. Afterwards goes back, Gen 39-45, to the Joseph story. Maybe a dig at the tribe of Judah, "Your mum is a whore and your dad admits he is worse" and the offspring will be fighting each other over power with the whole, 2nd twin pushes past 1st twin to get out 1st and get his claim.
there are multiple Jewish Torahs such as the Samaritan, Babylonian Septuagint, the masoretic( current version) as well as the alexanderian text so how can it be considered one text
Salaam Paul. In the Quran the high priest of pharaoh is mentioned by name (haman) and commanded to build a high tower. Is there any mention of this name in other scriptures or archiolgical finds? Jzk

Very interesting topic brother Paul as usual, still watching this video, I watched the video you did with Dr Louay about the indeed controversial topic of abrogation.
I wanted to ask if you can host a person on the other side of the argument of abrogation, perhaps a presentation just as academic as the one Dr Louay did.
I wanted to make an informed decision on the subject and to be honest your channel has become my number one place to get academic perspectives on matters like this.
It would be nice to get a traditional perspective on this issue as well.
I'll also look through the channel and see if you made any other videos on the subject.
Thank you for every thing you're doing for the community.
I pray that god rewards you for everything good that you do and forgive you for everything bad that you do.
MashaAllah, have no words left, this is the first time i am seeing Dr. Fatoohi , Alhamdulillah he's doing a fantastic job.
And your channel as well, your video of king Charles 3 about Islam randomly came 2-3 days ago to me.
Thank you

What kind of high class of mindes these two have ? Bless you Paul , bless you Fattohi
May Alloh SWT blessed you both in Jannah, the good explaination about the two books...🤲🏿🤲🏿🤲🏿🤲🏿🤲🏿
Best comparative narrative out there, great content and useful
May Allah bless you brother Paul snd Louay. This discussion was an iman booster. I would have loved to hear more from you brother Paul about your reflections on the Quranic description of the disciples that you mentioned almost at the end.
Another fascinating episode
Very insightful!
At the end of everything, i can't accept nor imagine that the very almighty God

MashAllah, this is unbelievably in depth and intriguing. JazakAllah brothers
Dear Brother.
I am really excited to see a Muslim who is specialized in cosmology. I have been longing to understand cosmology and the quranic understanding. Would you be kind enough to start a series on cosmology in Islam view with this particular guest of yours. thank you in advance.
You guys give brothers vibe 😭❤️
This vid was fantastic thanks Paul and dr
Enjoyed your university class.
Great analysis, Dr. Fatoohi is a really balanced and insightful scholar.
I highly recommend the book that Dr. Louay wrote about this subject
Great, great & great. Thank you both.
Another small, but might be significant, is what brothers of Yousef used to come and carry the Goods on in Quran is Camels … while in the Biblical story it was Donkeys.. the significance is the distances they were travelling and the needs to carry big amounts of Goods which only camels can !

Woww! What a wonderful analysis! Thanks #Paul for inviting this scholar.
Yes, so interesting. It is so fascinating after some deep study of the Bible and the Quran and then see a qualified person compare the two. It is fascinating how the Quran constantly subverts the biblical message (in a good way) like how Jacob's death scene becomes about God and not about tribes.
Thank you both
I feel enriched with the insights given by you, Dr.Fatoohi.
Thank you for hosting him in BT.
May Allah bless you both.
Alhamdulillah
Salam to both of you, thank you so much, what a great discussion
Amazing discussion
May Alloh SWT,bless both,...Aamiinyarobalamin...🤲🏿🤲🏿🤲🏿🤲🏿🤲🏿
Biggest ignorance in human life is human ability to follow forefathers rather than searching truth
Am always looking out for more from Dr louay fatoohi. Thank you brother Paul. May Allah reward you.

Nice comment ( reminder) by Dr. L
Thanks to both brothers .
Just my thought :
Br. Paul from west and Dr. L from East . Meet on this channel
East and West belong to Allah and His light illuminates East and west. Inshallah one day peace shall prevail .

There were two Saudi brothers Who extracted 1000 lessons from the story of Yusuf (es)
MashaAllah.
Asma. Haq. Yusuf.

@exhale inhale Haney is not reliable and comes up with fringe interpretations. The man claims he has been revealed a secret way to interpret the quran, and those before him did not do it correctly and his way is the correct way. Don't promote that man. Farid responds has exposed him already
Make multi languages captions for the videos please
1:43:00 this theory of Prophet Muhammad (sas) compiling all these known and unknown sources in order to produce the Qur'an becomes even more ridiculous when you consider the mere time it would consume of a person. How on earth should the Prophet be able to have done it during his migration to Medina, all the battles, being a husband, father, friend, imam and so on. We would have to hear : oh on this occasion he was unavailable because he was compiling/putting together the Qur'an 🙈 but nobody ever claimed this about the prophet. And on top of it, imagine, all of this in the oral form 🤯 so at the end this orientalist arrive at a theory which in itself would require a miracle in order to be true 😅
In any case: barakallahu fik brother Paul for the excellent kind of content you provide.
A merger of bookshelves!!
Great job, brother Paul. Now we need another episode that covers the differences between them on the story of Moses!
The story of Musa as is already covered on this channel. Very interesting.
always wanted to know more about prophet joseph peace be upon him, allah humma barak uncle paul, salaam
Pretty incredible. Just had a talk with a christian friend and we talk about the issue of the name Pharaoh not being in use during Joseph’s time. He wanted proofs, well Allah is the best of planners.
I'd love this for every prophet
@1:30:00 what he is describing is exactly the process I went through SubhanaAllah, almost word for word
i loved this episode so much ❤️❤️ so rich in informations thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing!, Highly appreciated
Glad you liked it!
The Quran has no errors. Only thing that wasn’t emphasized when he was giving examples at the end of this wonderful discussion.
It might be bound to the program they used for the conference
@@Markussiemens658 thanks brother, I thought with all the advancement in programming such option would be basic. Thanks though for answering.
Nouman Ali Khan is not someone you should be taking from. He’s a jaahil.

@Blogging Theology Would it be possible for you to invite Karen Armstrong?
Oh wow!!! Yes . I asked many months ago too. She is a bit new age now but her knowledge on Islam is one of the best
That would be amazing-in addition to Dr. F. -to invite Karen Armstrong on your awesome Blogging Theology would be wonderful:))) In’sha’Allah

Scholarly discussion bordered on realistic evidences, comparative resources and prevailing misconceptions. The story of Prophet Joseph (aws) as narrated in the Holy Qur'an, shed lights to some inconsistencies contained in the bible and added more realistic true happenings...

"and as a criterion over it"
I have only read the story of Joseph once and only briefly in the Bible.
Jzk
