imagine just being able to whip out a lick like that at a drop of a hat
hes done this lick for years
@@GeorgeCollier imagine being able to repeat this lick!!
@@Benisuber1 he has been playing this lick for years and this lick only. Just watch. It's all variations derivative of the human condition. Nothing new under the sun.
@@nassera first time I’ve heard anyone other than my dad use the “nothing new under the sun” line 😅
@@GeorgeCollier Shhhh. We don't tell them that.
Just like I've heard -RESECTED- say he plays a flute concerto on his instrument and the sheet looks impossible to read and it does sound impressive. However, he has played it for decades so he isn't really sight reading it.
Trumpeter got real defensive lol
As they do 🤔
Rightly so
well thats not ur average trumpeter, that’s arturo sandoval
@@vivid6896 Is that him!?
He kept his instrument's honor.
As a horn head I've never heard anyone imitate a trumpet sound and actually sound like one
Yeah honestly he really ain’t too bad
Probably a good thing for trupet players lol
I do it all the time when I'm listening to a song where the trumpet is the melody. Sometimes when I do it subconsciously in front of people in band class they think there's an actual trumpet playing lol
I thought everyone did it.
i can mouth trombone
I’m not sure if the Trumpeter’s look at the end was aggression or him desperately trying to get more air in 😂😂
Both
Sandoval is known for looking pissed after playing. I think it's probably both adrenaline and relaxing the lip muscles.
Yes
That was him trying not to black out and die lmao
Then you don’t know a shit about Arturo Sandoval.
The way Arturo looks at him after playing that really fast part is like “imitate that, punk!”
Exactly! Lol
“I’m afraid that’s all we have time for.”
"parry that you filthy peasant"
Thank you for explaining.
Love your transcripts
It was transcribed by tom pickles, check the description ;). But yeah, georges are really great!
@@paperboy1711_ oh, whoops!
thanks!
How do you have access to his college transcripts? 😳
Stephen isn't so bad, he could probably do that with a commercial break to practice...
Agreed--I was surprised how convincing he sounded, lol!
He’s definitely a lot more talented at that than comedy at this point. First time I actually wanted to hear something from Colbert.

@@bendover9021 he's great at comedy, actually, it's sad you think because he pokes fun at the stuff you like, he's no longer funny.
0:29 I'm already laughing just by looking at the sheet before he even starts playing hahah
Lmao, same!!
Lmao
I like your username.
I didn’t read it until you said anything lol
I like your username too
This man really went, "Keep my trumpet noises out yo fckin mouth!"
Yes
💀💀💀

*im going to*
This joke is getting overused
The trumpeter is amazing at his instrument
Arturo Sandoval, night in Tunisia you’ll love it
He's Arturo Sandoval, literally one of the best of all time.
Arturo Sandoval is a fucking *legend*.
You should watch his rendition of the star spangled banner at the orange bowl probably the best version in existence
No shit.
Imagine playing in one of these late night bands every night as your career. Dream gig
My dream gig is playing the music we hear in movies.
Ikr
Would have loved to have played in Paul Schaffer's band on David Letterman's late night show. That band was so tight and talented. They could play anything at the drop of a hat.
....except for Fallon show
Mr. Sandoval is why I got into jazz. What a legend.
Arturo Sandoval looked like he wanted to smack him upside the head at the end
"don't test me"
It looked more like he was catching a breath to me. What he just played looked EXHAUSTING man and Arturo Sandoval was a real good sport for doing this bit.

not Jon batiste just casually standing there in the corner
barbash too lmao (idk if he usually plays on colbert, I've usually seen barbash when playing with Cory Wong)
I meeaaaannn, when Arturo Sandoval goes up and plays, Barbash and Jon baptiste take a seat for a second :)
Arturo's face at the end. Lol. Love it!!
That was honestly impressive. The trumpeter was good too
The study guide vs the actual test
Gotta admit, I laugh along like I've experienced this but now that I think of it, I haven't.
"I'm afraid that's all we have time for"
Lol
As a trumpet player, Ive accepted that ill never be as great as Arturo Sandoval
Weak
@@woodsy4698 ok
@@OasisMusicOfficial sorry. I sounded rude.
@@OasisMusicOfficial but you shouldn't underestimate yourself like that. Except if you aren't planning on being a professional trumpet player, so yeah, You will never be like him.
good. know your limits. youll go much farther that way
Hey George, you should consider making a video about all the crazy things James Morrison has done! multiphonics, playing a solo upside down, performing a full big band with just himself. Dudes a BEAST
Great channel BTW🥳
Love this! Would love to hear you play a full length piece sometime. Want to know how your interpretation would sound like :)
Those super high notes at the end though, wow!!
Teacher: "Don't worry the exam will be easy"

Guy was so impressed with Stephen that he had to bring the big guns early.
Bro took that personally 💀💀💀
It's a known fact that I can confirm as a trumpet player, we all have ego the size of a skyscraper. The moment you threaten us with anything resembling a challenge, it goes from 1 to 100 and there will not be an in between.

Arturo sandoval is a legendary player
Check out there will never be another you nor concert he kills it
I played Trumpet through high school, got drafted and learned a higher paying job. What was fun, being over at friend's houses and their kids bringing home a trumpet on his way to learning music. The kid tried his best mostly air straight through, then dad, not much better, then me laughing at the two of them, and Dad handing me the trumpet. It took me a few seconds and I went up and down a chromatic scale, a bit slower without practice, but it worked. I handed his son back his trumpet and showed him with the mouthpiece, how to make it work. I then confessed that I played through my senior year, actually those last two years on French Horn or a Natural Horn, no valves. i to admire the masters for their skills, fun to listen to.
as a trumpet player this man is amazing
That timing on the last joke was amazing 😂
“And I’m afraid that's all we have time for this evening...”
“I’m afraid that’s all we had time for.”🤣😂
just trying to play trumpet today and man arturo is a freak of nature
I've seen the original video, and it is quite hilarious!😂
Arturo's face was like "take that!"
It would be funny if you would put rests over the part where he says, "That's all we have time for"
Stephen: *plays mouth trumpet*
Arturo: And I took that personally.
Okay but those red glasses frames??
We don't judge the wardrobe choices of the best trumpeter of all time.
Beautiful
I wanna be that guy when I grow up. Busting out the chops like that
I love ur details, jazz ink pen font for this hahahah
I love your transcripts more
The goat, Sandoval hinself. I live this clip.
How come after playing really really high notes, brass players always dramatically whip the instrument away from their face like this guy did at the end of the video?
It's just a thing... It feels good too. For me, it helps relieve pressure on my face. 😆
1. For the sheer badassery
2. To put the instrument at rest as fast as possible. Doing a high note like that takes some serious pressure in your chops
Also, I passed out from playing a note above the staff for too long (nowhere even near the note what the trumpeter played)
It takes skill
It's a thing that musicians with almost all instruments after playing intense passages. Pianists headbang and make their hands fly. Violinists raise their right arms. Brass players whip their instruments away lol.
Idk it’s just a thing that we do naturally
Lol imagine doing intense isometrics and cardio at the same time, working out your diaphragm and the fine motor muscles in your face, all while being a little high from oxygen deprivation, and tell me you wouldn't react like that
bro took it personally
The presenter allowed a break between his attempt and what he heard. If not he would not have missed the latter notes, but good recall still.
one of the best ever
When you hear something you'll never be able to play with the instrument, so you play the mouth instead xD
The great Arturo Sandoval.

It's almost like they scripted this entire joke. Almost.

“I’m afraid that’s all we have time for” got me laughing so hard. So I’m wheezing

This part is so hardcore even a musical instrument cannot withstand this power.
This is just like heading to the Tree Setinel when you just entered Limgrave
It’s so late night tv of the crowd to erupt in applause after the first mouth trumpet
A certified classic.

It feels like anyone that plays an instrument you can’t tell them that is easy in any way other wise there gonna manage to play Motörhead with all the instruments with a just a snare drum
“And I took that personally”
When the clap back is so melodic yet aggressive it’s got Dave chapel about to rewrite 5 fingers to the face to be 3 fingers in yo feelings .
