  • After a long winter of preparation, we set sail and head for the Norwegian fjords. We experienced a wild passage of just over 270 nautical miles, across the North Sea and discover some amazing cruising ground!

    Hope you managed to get round Alesund. An amazing history and architecture (and a lovely wee museum) when we were there some years back,

      The North Sea lived up to it's reputation, a speedy crossing for us! Next video will be another North Sea crossing from Norway, starting to head south. Cheers

    Brilliant video, who says Rivals are slow? The scenery looks spectacular and I hear you bumped into a few other Rival owners along the way. Look forward to the next one. Andy UK

      Crazy boat speeds for us, it was the average speeds that were most impressive. Satisfying to see the miles clock by. Norway has been amazing, lots of footage to share! Cheers Andy! 🌊⛵️

    Just wondering why you chose Alesund? Obviously closer ports further south.

    • @sailingmaalie
      @sailingmaalie  7 месяцев назад +1

      We were aiming to get further north, so chose Alesund for Schengen check-in. Absolutely magic wee place

      I was hoping to do the trip last year, aiming for Tromso. …but bargain boat…not quite the bargain I thought! Hopefully this year.
      Bergen is 100m closer, but Ålesund does get you a lot further north. Is it the next port of entry.

    • @sailingmaalie
      @sailingmaalie  7 месяцев назад

      Thats always the way! We spent 2yrs on a 1yr refit of Maalie. Once you start uncovering stuff, you can't ignore it 😅 Tromso is a dream destination for us, we'll definitely be back too. Yes I believe you are right, Alesund next check in port after Bergen. Last port to check in is Bodo, just south of Lofoten.

    • @sailingmaalie
      @sailingmaalie  Год назад +1

      @georgecollins2412 Just checked the log, this crossing took us 43hrs to sail 250 miles to Norway- then another 20 miles into Ålesund. Cheers!

    Hmm. Nice vid except for the terrible sound. It’s worth taking a tip from other YT sailors and use mic baffles or whatever to reduce the wind noise, which unfortunately is bad enough for me not to continue watching. Sorry.

    • @sailingmaalie
      @sailingmaalie  Год назад

      @triggerfish999 That's a fair comment, we're looking into wind protection for sound 👍🏼 I did add captions for the worst bit though, hopefully you could enjoy the rest of the video. Cheers !
