My fist trip to Monterrey in the late 70’s I remember the huge steel mill that use to occupy Parque Funtidora. I always thought I would eventually retire in Monterrey but I am leaning towards Queretaro.
I'm from Monterrey, and I agree with you, this is a city for work, not for retirement or if you want a slow-life style, the traffic is a chaos, a lot of noise, very americanized city... If you have the money and want peace, chose other city.
Monterrey is much bigger than we imagined and quite beautiful, too!

Is their still a water shortage? I will be going during thanksgiving weekend.
I’m not really sure about that.
No, there isn't a water problem now. I recommend visit in winter when isn't too hot.
Did you drive from Texas to Monterrey Mexico?
From central mexico to Monterrey then Texas.
did you need a car to look around?
We did have one, as we were driving through, and Monterey is a big city.

Monterrey seems like a nice place. It’s big, and there seems a lot to do there, but Queretaro is just special, and great weather

Monterrey seems ok, but Queretaro is way better.
