  • I. Introduction
    • When India became an independent country, the country’s leaders had the challenges to make the country’s economy strong, as the British had left the Indian economy handicapped that led into inflation
    • Later, Govt. of India set up a ‘Planning Commission’ on 15th March 1950, with Former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as the Chairman.
    • Planning Commission was assigned the task of formulating National plans for the most effective and balanced utilization of resources and determining priorities.
    • There are a total of ‘Twelve Five Year Plans’ in India during the period of 66 years from 1951 to 2017.
    • On 1st January 2015 - The decades-old Five-Year Plans and Planning Commission were replaced by the newly formed ‘NITI Aayog’ ( National Institution for Transforming India), by Hon. PM, Narendra Modi NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Govt.

    6. Sixth FYP: ‘Janata Government Plan’ - Growth Model (Reverse of Nehruvian Model)
    7. Seventh FYP: R H Model - Radhakrishna Hegde Model
