Not only have I seen Sammy Hagar 12 times, but I met him twice in Boston Ma. 1998 and 1999. Two meet and greets while being affiliated with WAAF 107.3 FM radio station Boston. He was very cordial, and fun. I have some great pictures with him that are proudly displayed on my studio wall.
Came down from SLC to see the show in Vegas with wife and kids - it was outstanding! How Hagar and the rest (Loverboy included) play and sound so good at their age is impressive... Satriani was fabulous, a really hard role to take on, especially as bitter and divisive as VH fans can be, but he hit it out of the park. The set list was great - I agree, I'd have loved to have gotten "Dreams", but I can't complain, just one great song after another and the sound from both bands was really good too in that arena. My only complaint, which has nothing to do with the bands, was how lousy it was getting out of the MGM Arena (my first time there), it's basically all funneled into one exit that runs on forever thru the casino. This was one that I'd pay to see again, really was a great show.
@@mrwasatch thanks for listening I agree the exit out of that arena is terrible. We kept comparing it to Hoover Dam. All these people are funneled into these little doorways just so they can spill out into the casino. Do better MGM
I saw them at an amphitheater in Arkansans this weekend. General admission/blankets on the ground and tickets were $49 per person. Awesome show. Worth ervery penny.
Thanks for the review-I passed on seeing this tour in Denver, only because I couldn't justify the cost, being on social security and retired--saw Sammy the first time with Montrose back in 1973 in high school, he's always been awesome.
I watched the show last night in Ridgefield, WA. Man, I was blown away. The first time I saw Sammy with VH was in 1987 at Monsters of Rock. I was taken back in time. No EVH or AVH, but man they really paid solid tribute to EVH with Satriani killing it. I had an awesome experience.
My wife and I flew in for the show. So glad we did. Just incredible from start to finish. The band sounded amazing. We thought originally about the next show in CO at Red Rocks, but those prices were crazy! Someday though... I HAVE to see a show at Red Rocks. Bucket list concert venue for me. We are thinking of going back to Vegas for Sammy's b-day bash in Oct!!
Dallas concert, they f'kin rocked it...dream come true, bucket list checked since 80's. Back row ticket, but snuck up to front stage barricade the entire show. Best $45 ever spent!
Thanks for the review. I was there and I enjoyed it so completely. Satch totally handled business. I honestly think Eddie would have been elated to have one of the greatest to emulate and nail the groove of the great E.V.! Loverboy was perfect as an opener. I seriously have so much respect for those boys and Mike Reno! WOW! He sounded amazing with such an amazing band, those guys are true icons. I saw Loverboy back in '98' at Konocti Harbor Resort in Clear Lake and it blew my mind, and I saw Sammy at Konocti as well, in I think, '02', amazing as well, so seeing them together was an intimate blessing for me.
Incredible show. "5150" was the highlight. Joe was there to *work*, man! He was so focused on songs like 5150 and Summer Nights and you could tell these were the ones he was trying to nail the most respectfully. When they played Satch Boogie it was like a reward for him - he looked like a kid who got to play his favorite game at recess after a hard test. Loverboy certainly was a good one to check off my list, but to your point, the difference between how Mike Reno is keeping himself in performance shape vs. Sammy and the band, is dramatic. He had everything tuned way down (which is only done for the singer of course, it doesn't help the instruments at all), and the tempo on everything was slower. He got winded easily. The band has a huge string of hits and I'm glad they played as many as they did, but the energy and vibe was more county fair grounds. No, it didn't stop me from singing along... I was hoping for either some guest appearances (I guess that's common in Vegas), or Mike and Sammy sharing a duet on "Remember the Heroes" - neither happened, but it makes sense when you consider how tightly rehearsed the headliners' set list seemed to be.
Thanks Joe for the great review! Loverboy was Loverboy and they're okay but fun; played for 48 minutes. The lights went out for Sammy right around 8:20pm and they played for 2 hours and 5 minutes, including a video opening bit. They were fantastic, though Sammy's voice started to show some issues at the end. I'm still impressed how well he can shred on the guitar, but Joe definitely stole that show. When they did a guitar battle during There's Only One Way To Rock, my mouth hung open! I've seen Sammy 6 times now, the last was at the Palms in May (technically with The Circle). He played a lot of the same songs but not as much Van Hagar ones. I'll be back to see Sammy in October for his birthday show in October, at the Pearl. He's always great, with fantastic energy and he just enjoys being on stage and playing music! As usual, I did get my little Tascam pocket recorder in to record the audio for both acts. We weren't close, towards the front of section 214 so the sound really needs to be cleaned up, but the audio is pretty good. What a great show that was!
I was there in Vegas in the show was amazing! I was in section C Rd. G, which is actually seven rows from the stage on the floor, and the seats were awesome. I ended up throwing my Dog Days Brewing (my business) red hat on the stage and Sammy wore it for the last two songs. I got it back and the reason probably is because Sammy didn’t sign it. Which is why the person who caught it probably gave it to me. Oh well, I’m gonna have to figure out a way to keep a lifelong memory. Great review!
Sammy has played Dreams and FinishWhat You Started may times on past tours. These two were probably cut in order put in some of deeper tracks like 7th Seal and Judgement Day. I've seen Sammy every tour in Massachusetts area since he joined Van Halen in 1986. How his voice is still so good is amazing. I saw him a couple of weeks ago, and he was awesome.
Joe i was there last night as well. paid $55 all in for sec 212, i didnt really care where i sat for this one. My friend was doing security and sent me the sheet with the show times etc. They only sold 11,500 tickets since the back of stage was not open like it was for Pearl Jam. The show was fantastic.
