I love this video! I'll be using it for my AP Environmental Science class when we study Island Biogeography. This is easily the best resource for that topic.
I really love this video especially the end! I had to use it four my science class but i rewatched it a couple times to get the information and its really interesting
A very interesting video & I really enjoyed & appreciated the content. My only query is that the concluding sentence suggests that Wilson's ideas were behind the Flathead reservation safe passage wildlife crossings, is that the case or is it just to summarise the film? Time again indigenous knowledge and ingenuity has not been credited but we must learn to respect & value it. I don't mean to be negative or provocative as it's such a great film, but what we say carries weight in the world.
Thanks for your comment. Yes, it's definitely intended more to wrap up the film, rather than to directly credit Wilson's theory as responsible for the wildlife crossings. We are sorry if it diminished the Flathead reservation research or accomplishments in any way.
@@biointeractive I don't think there is anything wrong with crediting McArthur and Wilson's theory in informing the tribal research and implementation. I find it hard to believe that it an any way diminished their (Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribes) accomplishments.
Before this video I have always wondered who built and what is the purposes of those overpasses and underpasses when it is in the middle of nowhere. My confusion is cleared.
Is that related to the great insect dying german insect collectors just recently warned about. If so what is needed to connect these "islands" for insects. Is 4m stripe of grass and bushes around the fields enough or do we need to change the way we do agriculture completely to protect the insects?
I think more research is needed before that question can be answered, but one thing I do know is that disrupted ecosystems are more vulnerable to invasive species, and the invasives tend to push out local species, thus depauperating the diversity. For example, when the European Honeybee population is lower, I see a lot more native pollinators.
monarch butterflies are now endangered due to the big push for Glyphosate herbicide and BT genetic engineered herbicide crops. Yes how we go agriculture as corporate genetic engineered synthetic chemical "science" is a War on ecology for sure - and part of our ecological crisis along with abrupt global warming crisis.
Imagine giving 70% of land and ocean back to nature because soon economies of scale will have the opportunity to create our food in vats. Microbial food.
Hey @biointeractive, Community contribution is closed for this video, why? Intentional or not, please open it and let the voluntary translators do their work. This is too valuable to not have translations.
We usually prefer to do our own translation as our primary concern is accuracy. We thus need translators, and then scientific reviewers who know the language to confirm. We will consider it for the future. Thanks.
Anybody else's environmental science teacher send them here?

so whats Wilson's general rule for saving biodiversity?

Glad you enjoyed it!
of course
four your science class??
Why we gotta do this for honor biology?
