What a wonderful game to watch again. Dave's classic finish to the game: "In the air...centre field...El Presidente, el Perfecto" is pure magic. On a more personal note, they mentioned a couple of times during the broadcast that the Toronto Blue Jays were playing the Kansas City Royals at the same time. I was at that game at the Skydome in Toronto (now the Rogers Centre). When it was announced to the crowd that Martinez had pitched a perfect game and they showed the final out on the stadium Jumbotron, the entire crowd stood as one and offered Dennis a long and heartfelt standing ovation, just as the fans at Dodger Stadium who watched it in person did. No doubt the same thing happened that day at every other ballpark. Some wonderful memories and as a former Montrealer I hope my beloved Expos return to the city one day. GO EXPOS GO/VIVE LES EXPOS DE MONTREAL!!
This is absolutely fantastic! El Presidente in top form, reaches immortality. The topper for me is the grace of the LA fans who roar for Martinez and give him a tremendous ovation at the dénouement. PURE CLASS.
Perfect game pitching + he hit .333 and made 3 great defensive plays. The way he made it to 1st base on the 1st possible hit when Larry got a hot ball to handle, ...

Dennis Martinez will innagurate the new international stadium in Nicaragua next year in 2017. It'll be named after him, one of the greatest pitchers of all times.

Que juego más bello. Muchas gracias por subirlo a los señores de MLB Classics. Es en realidad un verdadero triunfo para nosotros los nicaraguenses es tener la copia de este juego perfecto de nuestro querido Denis Martinez. Viva Nicaragua!
My dad n I went to visit my grandmother in LA who was sick, & because of that she gave us her tickets to cheer on 'El Presidente', her favourite pitcher. We went & saw history. The LA fans? Absolutely polite & cheerful that two Canadians were there in their section, & how knowledgeable dad was about Dodger history, growing up a Brooklyn Fan in Toronto Ontario Canada. That final out I cried, & so did my father. The fans around us and throughout the stadium gave Martinez an amazing standing ovation, proving they're true fans of the game. Dad passed away a couple years ago, & one of the things he left me was a framed picture of us at Dodger Stadium wearing our Expos caps holding our ticket stubs, which were inside the frame as well. Ty so much for posting this!!
Yes, I like how the announcer went through his standard routine as he always did. "Scoreboard totals are correct," he would say, or "Totals on the ballgame" as it seems he said here, then read the runs/hits/errors/left-on-base for each team, and then announce the winning and losing pitchers and their updated records. Here, he honored the moment by saying, "The winning pitcher, with a perfect game, Dennis Martinez" drawing loud cheers from the fans, and pausing for it as well.
They started cheering for Expos in the 9th... they didn't care about winning, they wanted to see a perfect game... true baseball fans. I'll always respect and love the Dodgers for that.
I have always been a Twins fan first & foremost, but the Expos were my favorite NL team. 1991 not only featured this fantastic game, but the Twins were champs that year too. The Expos sure got screwed by the 1994 strike - that team was destined for greatness. When MLB tried to contract our two teams during the 2002 season, it only made me a bigger fan of them. With Dave Martinez the likely new Rays manager, it's high time they move the Rays to Montreal and bring back these awesome blue uniforms.
Perhaps the greatest game I ever attended. I still have my ticket stub, the front page of the LA Times the following day and all items from that great game. Also a great bit of trivia, Ron Hassey caught 2 perfect games and Alfredo Griffin played in 3 of them.

As a born and raised Montrealer and a lifelong diehard Expos fan, this was one of the best days of my youth. One of the coolest facts about this game is that Ron Hassey is the only catcher in MLB history to have caught 2 perfect games.
Almost as great as the perfection itself were the LA fans cheering him on. It's not just about winning and losing, you have to get behind any player when they're about to make baseball history. Pure class from those fans!

This day was no different ...those who stayed, of course got a perfecto ... certainly we were not leaving until there was no longer a no-no ... and of course got the Perfecto .. @@assmane999They are all on drugs. Ball is juiced. Parks are smaller. Games take forever. Now they add a clock? LOL The whole thing is pathetic. Stopped watching a long time ago.
I watched this *and* Mark Gardner's 9 innings of no-hit ball two days earlier live (because he lost in extra innings, it wasn't technically a no-hitter). This was an amazing series to have witnessed. Such great pitching!
I remember that too. Expos couldn't score a run in that one. Went to extra innings and I think the no-hitter was broken (and the game lost) in the 11th.
I remember watching this game like it was just yesterday. The Expos were my favourite team of all time. I love MLB, but for me there has always been a part of it missing and that's the Expos. Dave was one of the best announcers of all-time. Kenny is in a class of his own. I'm not going to hold my breath but the best MLB could do is have Montreal build a re tractable roof stadium and get the Rays there as the Expos. Just dreaming I guess.
Dennis Martinez wasn't only the first latino pitcher to ever pitch a perfect game in the Majors (MLB), but also the first foreign born (born outside the U.S.A. soil) to ever throw this kind of perfect gem of a game (this includes the Japanese, Cubans, Dominicans, Venezuelans, Koreans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, etc...)!...
I was a huge Expos fan. I remember turning on the TV around the third inning. Very fortunate to have witnessed this historic game live. El Presidente, El Perfecto!

Dennis Martínez es un orgullo nicaragüense y latinoamericano.
This perfect baseball game was well setting at the los Angeles Dodger Stadium, and the fans were lucky to watch a perfect baseball game threw by Denis Martinez. It is amazing how Denis Martinez at age 35 showed his athletic body at taking care to the bunt and fielded with accuracy throwing at fist base to outing the batter. Denis Martinez since 1972 showed professionalism for the Baseball.

I love that moment around 48:00, when Larry Walker blocked the ball and Martinez made the play at first. Sixteen other times the runner was out at first. Five times the ball was caught in the air and five batters were struck out.

This came during an awful post-All Star Break stretch for the Dodgers that year where they played below .500 ball for over a month and allowed the "worst to first" Braves to catch up to them from about 10 games behind. Mostly due to the fact that they couldn't hit worth a damn.
