    • @cheungchingtong

Chinese can build everything as well as them building automobiles now, it just depends on how much someone is willing to pay. You can still now as a foreign company ordering Chinese factories to build up a car at lowest cost as possible, they will tell you, if so, quality wise won't be good, but you can get your car by that eventually, just like how Walmart has been doing for the last few decades, buying a $20 drone from China and sell it at a $500 price in the US, if not $1000.
There is an example for you, recently a manufacturer in China posted a story online, that some Indonesians few months ago came and ordered some $0.08 worth lighters, the manufacturer told them these lighters can only be used for few times at this cost, but the Indonesians said those would only be used as souvenir and not for sales, yet the fact was, as soon as they received the lighters, they sold them for about $1. You could imagine people in Indonesia who buy those, would be furious and shout out that Chinese made lighters are craps.

Yeah, China has been switching from Russian engines to Chinese engines over the past decade. China has been test-flying the CJ-1000 engine on the Y-20 military transport, so it'll go into service on the C919 soon enough. With the high thrust CJ-2000 engine coming, I wonder if China is going to produce an even larger military cargo jet comparable to the C-5 Galaxy.

People still can’t get the new reality. China learns. I always tell the story of Olympic Diving, a discipline in which the US dominated since 1904. The Chinese began developing their diving program in the early seventies. First generation kind of sucked. Next was a bit better. By 1984, Chinese divers were already in finals and podium. Seoul 1988 was the last Olympic Games dominated by the US in diving. Fast forward to 2024, China has taken 55 out of 60 Olympic gold medals from 1992 to 2024. We’ve seen the same pattern of development in fields like smartphones and electronics, ship building, photovoltaic energy and it will also replicate in every single field they determine as strategic: EVs (smart vehicles), semiconductors, chips, nano-lithography, space exploration, aeronautics, robotics, AI, etc. Do never underestimate China and its people.

China's population is almost 1.5 Billion. China's population is generally rational and overall coherently synergetic. China values poverty alleviation and practical education. China still has a lot of space for development. There are still a lot of opportunities for China to extend overshadowing of the West. It's pretty much barely started. I think the best approach for the West is to integrate into the developing world and concentrate on synergy rather than to try to hang on to the past glory of zero-sum world domination and international looting.

Hate to say this because I don't mean to insult the host of this channel (and this comment certainly does not apply to Kevin), but Westerners cannot be trusted to take part in what is radically happening in the developing world, by which I mean the BRI. The reason there are so many attacks on China is because Westerners cannot accept the East or Global South surpassing them in quality of life, and will do what they can to sabotage them, as the US and Europe are attempting with the tariffs. The only reason they tolerate Japan and South Korea is because they willingly serve as military vassals to the US.

So if COMAC can turn these dreams into reality, the Chinese have another winning sector. COMAC will have the vertical supply chain system ironed out, as do all other Chinese Manufacturers. If they match Boeing / Airbus on quality, the cost will be lower. If they choose to match on price, the quality of the end product will be higher. I must say that "signing out" on an image from Chengdu, Sichuan Province is highly "appropriate", since this is the home of Chengdu Aerospace Corporation, who are very heavily involved with China's latest military aircraft such as the J35.

It seems like China think about these things systematically a lot more than others do, or even can do
When the US tries to sabotage Comac, and they do, by preventing them getting some critical components, they miss that China already has plans in place for that. The result of doing these things is that China themselves eventually will control all the important supply chains.

China believes their economy isn't the largest (in nominal USD terms), that's why they're still going forward to remove Western dependency! In reality, China's economy is deliberately understated by a tremendous amount, almost as much as the US economy is overstated. If both China and the US had their economies measured in the same way, China would be found to have the largest economy and that would be inconvenient for China claiming "developing nation" status for trade advantages. So China continues the fiction of being a smaller economy, and the West is happy with that.
