Once he decides to finish his career, it's going to be a sad day for tennis. Unfortunately, his accomplishments never followed his enormous skills, but he will be remembered as a tennis artist with an eternal smile on his face.
Well I honestly feel like players who have won a bunch of ATP 250,500 titles as he has have a lot to be proud of, hell even just one. He has entertained a lot of fans and sure does have some real trophies to show for it
He lost to the Big 3 an absurd number of times. 2-14 against Nadal, 4-10 vs. Fed and 0-17 against Djokovic. That's 41 tournaments ended too soon by legendary talent. The man was simply born at the wrong time. If he existed in the Sampras/Agassi/Becker era he would have multiple SF and F appearances in major tournaments. Alas, he encountered three men who each achieved tennis perfection at some point in their careers.
I remember starting tennis after seeing my first Monfils' matches on TV, when I was a very young boy. I don't care that he doesn't have the biggest palmares or any of that stuff , This man is the biggest wildcard in this sport, and I love it.
The last point is insane, we expect him to let the ball drop and hit a twiner or something, but he actually ends jumping 180 degrees towards the ball when it's rising, to hit a kind of smash. Fucsovics was so oblivious to that... he started to do his split step when Monfils actually hit the ball.
I've been entirely watching tennis for 2 straight hours. the one who keep me doing it was this guy. molfils, you mau not won any title but surely the people's champion was you. radiates what it feels like to play tennis by heart.
No sólo es show monfils tiene una técnica increíble..q no e visto a muchos jugadores..incluso contestar con tu mano menos habilidosa es ya algo increíble..y responder en el aire con una precisión increíble ...grande monfils....gracias por tu tenis
The best definition of i do best under pressure and i show off when not under pressure. Finally a reason to watch tennis, this guy is entertaining frfr 🔥
Come on, you have to realize how in #s 29 and 5 Monfils just completely anticipates and immediately follows through on a dime to move forward from his passing shot to meet the best possible shot from the opponent!! What vision.
You should wonder why Kyrgios gets much more attention by media than La Monf. Both of them are good entertainers and most of people like seeing them when they play. On the contrary to my favourite tennis player (Rafa Nadal), they don’t mind playing some low percentage spectacular shots to entertain. But there are important differences as Monfils: - behaves well on and off court - is well liked by his tennis mates who find him very funny and nice. - is never rude or unkind to neither his mates, nor the umpires or the expectators. You see Nick, you should take notes and learn something my friend… ;) ;)
stfu, and quit trying to make carbon copies of people and enforce your own behavior code. the ONLY reason humanity contains beauty, achievement, art, innovation, and intrigue whatsoever is that we're comprised of different elemental qualities. kyrgs doesn't need your sermon. he's just a dude who's unwilling to put on airs. his head gets existential. he has different motivations and different goals. that's it. he adores monfils, and yet he isn't monfils. thank god. get over it, quit with the patronizing 'my friend' he'll never read, and quit with the sanctimony, thx
@@DanielBoonelight Are you giving me a sermon and telling me not to do so? Isnt't that an hypocritical behaviour? I like watching Kyrgios because he is a good entertainer. No problem if he focus more in social media than in his own tennis game, but I would very much like he wold not direspect any of his mates, umpires, clay courts and so on. Can you understand that? Moreover a week ago in Winston Salem, he was "smart" enough to withdrew a few minutes before his match against Murray, but he was given the money anyway as if he had played. THE GOAT OF TRICK SHOTS Nick Kyrgios, Justin Brown, Fabrice Santoro etc, although they are great, none of them come even close. He did not win any Gran Slam, but he certainly did win my full admiration for his unparalleled skills.
Watching him at Roland Garros right now. He has matured so much, but man what a player. He could be one of the best if he calms down, but please for the love of tennis STAY YOU!
Que talento, que energía positiva emana este chico. Pocos quedan así en el circuito. Si fuera más consistente sería un crack. Pero no se puede tener todo
Monfils gets criticized a lot for not being "serious" and not putting in his best effort to win a grand slam. How about tough straight-faced professionals like Ferrer, Verdasco, Gasquet, Simon, Isner, etc who always "played seriously" and put in their best effort but still didn't win one? Fact is...the era of the big three was the hardest to win a grand slam in. So I'm glad Monfils played to enjoy himself, made millions, won some titles, and is still playing. Sometimes, a few people are just better than others no matter what others do or don't do.

With the crowd on his side Monfils is such an inspired tennis player. He is really impressive. Great fighter. I'm a fan of this guy.
He's the Gaucho Ronaldinho of tennis! He plays with joy and a lot of skill.
I was thinking the exact same thing while watching the Video!
Time slows down when Monfils is chasing a dropshot
This is my first time seeing him play. I like watching him. I really like that he doesn't grunt while hitting the ball.
Monfils is Miracles - Respect sir... Thank you for giving us your brand of tennis.
One of the best athletes on tour!
What a super nice guy. And plays for the crowd. Congratulations on 500 tour wins and wishing many more ahead 👍🏽👌🏽👏🏽

The No 50 doesn't look like No 50. But hey, this is Gael Monfils we're talking about
#1 was def my favorite. hope he stays around for a few more years. tennis wouldn't be the same without him.
The ease of his game is just raw skill, superb entertainment 😀
Magic video, not one second of boredom. Yet, lacks the match point in the U.S open when Monfils jumped, turned 360° in the air and smashed.
This is the atp channel, they don’t have rights to post grand slam videos, such a shame…

His shot against Meltzer at Roland Garros is definitely Top 10, but since the footage isn't owned by ATP I can understand why they left it out.
