They make a spot weld drill bit that does the job easily.

I knew the newer cars were built with lighter metals, but I was surprised to see just how much thinner the metal is on these later model cars vs the 66' mustang I'm working on.

Our lives do not matter. What matter is their profit. Cheap minds build cheap stuff, not true /engineers with ethics.

@@user-mr3mf8lo7ybro the old metal was literally worse, it would just bend and trap you inside, the newer metal is for crunch zones and it sends less shock throughout the rest of the car.

1:15 Done the same thing, but used a good size tree and come-along. Works fine.

My dilemma from a perpendicular collision is only the front bumper cover broke loose at the top. The speed at impact was less than 10mph under braking. I refitted the bumper only to find issues. Hood alignment shifted 1/8". Passenger headlight doesn't align with the hood. I can see the misalignment but not any bent sheet metal. It's a 1999 Civic with only 172k. 10k of which I drove taking kids to school. What should I be looking for?

It’s likely the core support has shifted. Look for split paint at contact points. Like where it’s welded to the frame rails and the stamped corners.

As an engineer and Honda Civic owner, I am quite upset how terriblly it is constructed. That core supprt is a joke.. When experienced a 34-40% impact , engine/vehicle is toast. The core support and where it is spot welded (which is a terrible idea) look s like tin, not an alloy etc. Honda just lost a long time customer...
