One of my most anticipated games as a kid. The CPU in this is probably a little too good for my taste but this was still one of my favourite Amiga games to play.
For this longplay i go through arcade mode as Mileena. I include all the endings after I beat Shao Khan, and I finish by showing the basic two fatalities of the fighters. -

Man I miss the Amiga years of fun. The good old days.
The thing I love about this game, and it's predecessor is that developers finally stopped supporting the Atari St and so made actual use of hardware sprites and scrolling, rather than just bound everything to the CPU, as they with the Atari and it's software rendering
What are sprites used for here?
Maybe to draw the time counter at top.... I cant think of anything else.
I think the blitter is doing most of the work in this game. But it's an improvement over sf2
@@rafaellima83 I wondered if one of the fighters is a sprite (all 8 really) to make use of the extra palette.
@@craigix I doubt it ... that would require two sets of animation frames for every fighter, one with dedicated sprite colours and the other using the restricted blitter palette we can see in the video. That would mean extra floppies and more disk swapping.
It's basically a Mega Drive port as opposed to an ST port.
Similar to Road Rash.
Rock. Solid. Port! This had all the moves (apart from the Shang Tsung morphs) and it played great, even with one button. Possibly my favourite Amiga game back in the day. Amiga gamers put up with a lot of compromise in our games but there was none of that with MK2! ❤
I could never beat Kintaro though 😓
Intro music is epic as hell.
Mr. Grongy Yes! Best intro music of all versions.
Reminds me of a rave party the way the MK Dragon logo lights to the beat of the music.
Amiga get superb music in all games.
Yeah those crap consoles players dare to say their was better..haha never! Epic game
Badass
What was Probe's obsession with re-ordering music tracks in all of their MK ports? And every platform they did a port for had a different track order than every other Probe port. Weird.
Probe were a bad developer as they were spread thin porting 15-20 games at a time look how good they became in the PS1 era when they only worked on 1 or 2 games at a time ports were much better Die Hard Trilogy a great example. They got rewarded by being bought by Acclaim.
Say what you will, that was the only version I could get my hands on in the 90s and i loved it!
Pegasus was also and comadore in 90s very popular
10x better thant the gameboy version 🤢
Pretty impressive considering the amigas limitations. Far better port than Streetfighter 2 was.
Probe Entertainment Limited is also involve with Amiga's good Golden Axe port
Yup, no parallax on a system with 4 bitplanes was certainly impressive feat.
because USGOLD didn it
im so tired of classic amiga limitations then u fall for sell out hyperion that owns nothing or pc=mac that has outdated layerd pc/gpu that hasnt updated worth crap. If u dont program for it. It wont show. Period. I developed the PS3. They praised the PS3 as the best ever .Then they found out it was an Classic Amiga clone... oh it has to be limited and suck. FACTS/ Do you know what 12 bit graphics are yes, 32,768 colors.. thats the OCS chipset Thats right per each output of the RGB.
The Amiga could still do a lot better than this. In terms of port quality, this would be a 6/10, and SF2 would be a 1/10.
I remember having this as a kid. Changing the disk during the fatalities was a ballache.
How was that? 🤯🤯🤯
Note that changing disks during fatalities was only a thing if you didn’t have 2MB of RAM. Also, the cracked copies had more disk swapping as well.
It was an Amiga 600. Some fatalities would work fine like liu kangs dragon. But some characters would just fade to black and 'insert disk 2' etc would appear. They did alot with very little back then!
@@kinganimal9631 I was playing on a 2MB 600. Originally I had a cracked version (4 disks) and there was swapping like that. Some cracks even had 5 disks. Once I got the original (3 disks) if I remember rightly the only fatality that required swapping was Kintaro Morph, which I only did twice in my life accidentally.
Hehe I miss the Megs.. my PC back then was originally 8 megs and I was jealous of the 64 meg pentiums 😅 today it's all gigs and terabytes.
They got an impressive amount into 1MB of memory, and the ECS chipset. If they'd made it AGA only it probably could have been better, but i think it was more sensible to have it available on the widest range of Amigas at the time
It actually ran fine on 0,5MB. MK1 you could do vs. on 0,5, but needed 1MB for single player.
Aga version with support for memory expansion could have meant the amiga got a really special version. Wouldn't have been arcade perfect but I'd have loved to see mk2 using the amigas full potential.
@@JimboJammy It actually is designed for 2M Agnus ECS. If you have 2M chip RAM it enables more effects and audio. Not many people had 2M chip ECS machines (2M Agnus only came in A3000, A500+, A600 and most A500+ and A600 users had only 1M), but AGA systems run it great.
Damn I remember this on my old A600... if there ever was a poster child for a 2 button joystick for the Amiga, this was it!
The sound effects are very different compared to the Genesis version
This is arguablly better than the Mega Drive version never mind the fact it was competing against the Master System version as both systems launched in 1985.
I would of liked this version over the mega drive.. has more voice overs, deeper acurate colours and an epic audio opening.. dang!
The music is way better than I expected, and the voices are very clean. I did expect the Amiga to look better than a Game Boy Color, though...
You exaggerate too much. It looks better than gameboy advanced nevermind gameboy color. Get some glasses
@@wesleyhempoli5548 not
the graphics, while heavily reduced are well beyond anything on the game boy color in terms of detail.
What I don't understand about this port is why did they scramble the music order? (Wasteland/Pit II soundtrack for Deadpool, Deadpool soundtrack for Kombat Tomb, etc.)
That's very common in the Amiga port franchise.
The music is screwed up because of Probe Software. They scrambled the music up on every single port of MK1 and 2 and even changed the compositions of the music tracks as well. I wish Probe wasn’t involved in Mortal Kombat at all because they butchered and almost ruined every version they made.
@@TheWaynelds True there MK ports where awful only their port of Mk2 on Game Boy was any good and considered by some to be the best portable version of MK2 even better than the PSP version.
@@TheWaynelds Yeah. Its a shame only this and their MK2 game boy port are any impressive

First ever version of MK I ever played, I thought it was brilliant back in the day.
Not as impressive as the other ports but not a bad effort
The Amiga-MK2 is much better than the first MK. For Example, every Stage has the same Music...
Watching this in 240p makes it look more true to its original presentation on old TVs.. todays monitors are too sharp, need a little blur!
when you lost a match you had to do diskette swaps as punishment
Tedium-ality!
4 dis. 12 persons and X backrounds.
Its tortured 🤣
Had to do them when you won as well. Or before certain fatalities. It was absurd.
I really like this port more than on SNES or even on Genesis.
Because the Amiga MK2 has impressive performance, while on SNES/Genesis it could be much better than the final result.
The SNES crushes this port hands down. The heck are you even talking about lmao
It looks like the genesis.
I finally said it when no one else would!
Dude it's not some hidden fact. It was made by probe, who did the sega port. So the Genesis version shares a lot in common with this port.
It looks worst than the Gensis. The Amiga version has less colours, no parrelex scrolling and crap controls.
Impressive port - better than the Genesis version at least - more speech and way better music (a bit more dithering due to the only 32 colors instead of the Genesis' 64 on screen colors).
This is instantly polarizing I can't tell if I like it or hate it

Not all sound effects and speech are present in this recording, it seems the emulator wasn't configured with enough RAM. If I'm right you need 2,5 MB of memory (or even more) for all of it.
What else should have been present? I had this on a standard a500. I didn't even get the character names announced. 😔 Did get fight, fatality, finish him / her though.

Good graphics, animations, excellent use of 32 colors. Too bad there is no parallax
Much as I derided this port back in the day, now it looks pretty okay. Too bad about the 2-button limitation, though.
1 button, had to do alot of stick combinations.
Holy hell that was some epic music at the beginning and demo scenes 😗😗😗

1:03 My favourite soundtrack
Good job with this port.
Even though it is a version with a lot of cuts, it was very playable and fun. Killer music, though. I believe one of the best soundtracks of all the ports. If they could this for a 1985 hardware machine and 4 880k floppys, imagine what could've been done on an Amiga 1200 with a harddrive installation.

@@Mulinaster So what if it's European? Most Amiga games were developed in Europe!
@B3ro1080 Yes, it is the best port for 16bit consoles. I have to give a shout out to the SMS version which is very impressive for 8bit.
@@clarenceboddicker6679 Agreed.
Better stereo sound than all consel versions Amiga puts all sounds effects & music In stereo
No. The SNES-PORT has better Sound and more Details at all...
Not even close to the 32X version.
SNES has better SFX (except the Blocking-Sound), 1 Layer more Parallax-Scrolling at the "Wasteland-Stage", a better looking Mode 7-Pit-Fatality and a better use of Colour. The 32X has the faster Gameplay, the Original-Intro and a overall more Arcade-accurate Touch. I like both Versions more than the PS1- or Saturn-Ports, they are really lazy programmed.

gotta love mk ii amiga music, better than arcade imo
Hard on Thots thats why i said "imo" at the end. the music in arcade original is less scary, its much "darker", evil, sinister sounding on amiga, like there is a depth to it.
Not seeing/hearing what's so "evil-sounding" about it
Intro music, player select / ladder music are both clearly superior on amiga compared to arcade version. I am not talking about the quality because it may be lower (due to hardware, obviously, but nothing almost was as good in quality as arcades in terms of csound and graphics quality) but the general sound of the music. Wasteland is awesome too and the pit stage gives me goosebumps. Hearing such music at night would make me shit my pants, listening to this makes me feel uncomfortable, as if some psychopath was chasing me or searching for me in my house while I am hiding in my closet.
Oooooor it sounds like you've way too much nostalgia and have played very little, if any of the arcade version. Sorry, but there's nothing frightening about what gets processed through the Amiga's soundboard, and certainly not this composition even ignoring the Amiga's limited ability.
Yes, I am nostalgic about this game too, that's why I said "imo" in my initial comment, I don't get what the fuss is all about. You won't change my opinion that the amiga version has more interesting music, I won't change yours that it does not.
how many floppys did this game have I remember Street Fighter II had 15 at one point
my copy had 4 aldo my copy of the terrible sf2 had 4

First time i play this for some reason i find it better then snes port apart of voices . Is not a knob game difficulty can be frustrating even i master it back in the day.
Repeatedly stomping up and down on somebody as Kitaro does has to be the equivalent of hair pulling and eye gouging and not in keeping with the MK fight style!
