The worst part is people keep buying these cars so dealerships will continue ridiculous markups
Agreed, we talked to a few sales people and they said people will pay for the markups and not care. Especially for vehicles with a gross weight over 6000 pounds. Certain tax laws allow them to write off the entire vehicle with section 179. So what's another 100k over sticker when its being written off for taxes?
They don't have much choice if you want anything from a dealership..

My friend sold a used tacoma for like 60k. The girl traded in a 05 miata with 70k miles dealership gave her 1500 for it. My buddy got to buy the miata at the trade in cost

really!! I spent around 38k on a Brand New 2020 WRX like 5 months ago, That camry markup is out of this world..
I just got my Camry 22 SE with all the options I could get for 36k. Basically MSRP + Tax. No negotiations room but i ain't EVER gonna pay for market adjustment that is just straight bs. Had some idiot tried to sell me a Civic Touring for 49k LOL. Laughed so hard right there when I saw the paper the guy shooked.
Camry hybrid here cost like 51k+ (indonesia)
For a Camry? I might as well buy a Mustang GT Premium at that price.

Edit: perma-plate is a "sealant" that is applied to a car while the car is wet with a sponge. It's supposed to be like a wax but its complete junk. After about 3 or 4 washes that stuff is already worn off. Save the money and get a real ceramic coating. This is coming from someone who works in a dealer that uses it.

Honestly anything the dealership added to the car is a scam to increase total price. Winter Floor mats at $250, exterior protection $300, wheel locks $150, etc. complete joke. Most of the time you can negotiate these things off

@@jasonjhee4944 greed. No car is worth even 25% over MSRP. Plenty of local dealers by me have markups, but they're really only a grand or two. I still wouldn't ever pay a cent over MSRP. The dealers know they can talk impatient idiots into this kind of mistake. By the time the car is out of it's lifecycle they'll probably still owe MSRP on the thing.
I was car shopping recently looking for a good mpg commuter car and found a 2018 Nissan Sentra. They were asking $19k. I liked the car and decided to get it. After their ridiculous mark ups and hidden fees the otd price was $37k!! I got up and walked away and the salesman got a major attitude and had the audacity to thank me for wasting his time. He said “the 2 hours I spent with you could have been put towards selling a car to another customer”. I said “look around dude, I’m the only customer here” which made him more angry. I couldn’t believe the final price was almost double the asking price. I went across the street to another dealer and the sticker prices were so high I went home. This is crazy and people need to stop paying these prices and they’ll start going down. And That’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma

I tried to buy one of those Keyes IS500's last week. Sticker $62k, Dealer price $72k, but once you sit down it then becomes $83k and can't buy it. Huge waste of time. Not surprised they are throwing out numbers to see if anyone will bite on ridiculous prices.

I saw $67k on the sticker of a Launch Edition IS500 from Lexus of Henderson. Can’t imagine what the actual price would come to at the end.
Guys its the same here in the UK, Land Rovers in particular are going for silly prices(especially the new defender), but also if you where lucky enough to have ordered a brand new car 12 months ago and took delivery you could sell it the next day for $40k over what you paid. Even MK8 Golf R's are selling for £60k ($82k) for a Golf which is crazy!!!

I sold cars for 15+ years and sooner or later the market will correct itself and all the idiots that bought cars with these insane markups are going to be screwed if they ever trade it in or try and sell on the private market.
Ford already said that if their dealerships continue to do it they’ll lose their lightning allocations. GM said the same thing and said dealerships would lose their Z06 allocations if they continued doing markups

so glad we got our GLS450 a year and a half ago before all this adjustment stuff kicked in. we were starting to see even back then inventory problems, we couldnt get a fully optioned one locally on the west coast and had to get one in New Orleans and had it shipped to us.

That’s unbelievable. It’s crazy that this is actually allowed by law. Fortunately this is not possible here in Germany. New cars can’t be sold over sticker. The dealerships can’t just make their own prices with new cars. However the used car market is off the charts here in Germany as well. Pretty much any used car ( really old or nearly new cars, doesn’t matter) went up 10-30%. It’s really ridiculous.
Plus the Lexus IS 500 is a “1 of 500” launch edition and that blue RCF track edition is a “1 of 50” . The dealerships are using limited run vehicles to run up the price also

So in Virginia we don't have the market adjustment, but after you negotiate the price. You go in a back room with the finance person and all those extra are then pitched to you. You don't to get them. Also, ask who the companies are that provide the interior and exterior protection. Alot of dealerships will tell you that rock chips are covered,but when you speak to the actual company that is providing the paint correction will tell you different. We learned this with our gladiator and had I read the fine print on the contract, it said it right there, does not covered rock chips or paint chips. Only covered fading and cracking of the paint.
That’s crazy! How the dealers have the courage to sell this cars with a totally crazy prices!
Some of this prices is 20k over the real ones. That’s completely insane. No words about that.

The Porsche dealer in my area has the 992 GT3s with like $160k msrp with a $300k asking price.
I am working at a car dealership in germany and the german carmarket is also getting effected by the chipshortage. The prices for used cars also went up in the last few months, but prices for new cars only got increased by the carmanufactorers a bit. But these adjustments in the USA are mindblowing. XD
Yeah, here also in Belgium we don't have those markups. We sell cars at (nearly) the same price of what the manufacturer tells to sell them. We can't give a car 10k markup because we are not allowed an to many competitors nearby. Also I would feel bad if we did that. Meanwhile people order a car and wait a year or more to receive it.

Our Benz dealership was on our local news for trying to market up 120 grand on a new gwagon to bring the total to 276 grand. The guy that tried to buy the vehicle got his lawyer involved
We recently purchased a new Mini Cooper 5 door hatch, the dealership said they can’t mark up from original price (regulation/etc) since a one year old used one with less spec is £2k less and this is in the U.K. used car prices are mental over here right now tho.
That part in the parking lot is the storm drain lol, so the water doesn't flood the lot and goes elsewhere

I once saw a pic of a Civic Type R Limited Edition for retail at 50k, already insane, but with a dealer markup of 50k so it came out to be 100k for CIVIC. A CIVIC.

I worked in sales for 5 years & all our New cars always had markup before COVID. It was $5,000 markup for ETCH, Cilajet, Clearshield. Our GT-R’s had $20,000 & Ram TRX’s had $30,000 markup, but that was normal for us. Typically people will negotiate the markup or just go thru the Costco Auto Program to avoid any markup.
But now, dealers won't even negotiate a markup

Toyota Landcruisers are ridiculously popular in Australia now as the borders have been shut for so long. My local Toyota dealer Brighton Toyota have basically turned their showroom floor into a Landcruiser museum to fill the floor space! I swear at one point they had only one (or extremely few) demonstrator vehicles of the new 300 series. A friend of mine works down the road and he's selling cars off the used lot interstate and even internationally. Cars like Landcruiser Troop Carriers
There was a 992 GT3 I saw over in Puerto Rico and the mark up was over 300k insane I think they were asking like 499k.

in Canada its topping $400k on g63 and few dealerships don't even let you finance it, only lease.
I work at a chevy dealer. We have a 2017 duramax with about 100k on it with a lift kit that's being sold for $80k somehow.
People just need to stop paying these mark ups.

So I can speak on behalf of the dealership I work for and the dealerships in the surrounding area I work at a Hyundai dealership in Coastal Georgia and we have addendum‘s Appearance and dent protection and tint (total $1757 increase over MSRP) with no additional dealer markup and most dealerships in my surrounding area have no markup other than luxury brands and dodge stores so it hasn’t hit us that bad but inventory is very scarce most lots are running at about 35%-50% Of what they usually have
