    What has been your experience with upload/download speed? A universal complaint seems to be that Sync is very, very slow in comparison to other providers.

    • @LearningandTechnology
      @LearningandTechnology  4 месяца назад

      I’m usually just allowing it to sync in the background - but I do find it not to be as fast. It’s fast “enough”, but it would be nice if it was faster.
      They’ve recently made some changes - so I’ll retest as well. I know it’s faster if you download their client software.

    The other videos on youtube goes through the features but didn't have an actual demonstration using the desktop app itself. Great video, thank you.
    The vault feature is still confusing for me. I currently have the mobile app installed to test out the features, and you get access to vault on the mobile app. Cache makes up most (if not all) of the local storage, together with files you choose to save offline. For the mobile app i don't see how the vault saves any storage, as everything seems to be stored on cloud. Is it not the same case for the windows desktop app? Am I correct to assume that all files that doesn't go into vault will create an offline copy on your hard drive, unlike OneDrive (what i'm currently using), where i can choose what files to keep a offline copy of.

      It’s sort of a two-part system.
      1) in the Sync folder. You can go to properties and select which folders to sync locally. So that can save local space.
      2) with the Vault - it’s all Cloud and not synced to the local system.
      The way I manage mine is that I have several systems where I have local sync - so that my files are across all my computers.
      Then, when I’m finished with a project (mostly video projects) I will go to a browser and move the folder to the Vault.
      Let me know if this makes sense - I can do a video on the whole process and will do so soon.

    Can you map the vault as a network folder at windows?

    • @LearningandTechnology
      @LearningandTechnology  5 месяцев назад

      When you install the client software it creates a “sync” folder - that then keeps both a local and a network copy of the data across your devices - so if you have multiple systems, the files are there. You can then use the “vault” to offload any files to just the cloud storage.
      I think I’ll make a new video to demonstrate all of this!

    Great video - I am curious if this is Hipaa compliant storage and if I can get a BAA for just the one user basic plan. Also - I couldn't tell if you can edit a MSWord doc or EXCEL doc online from this platform and if it will sync up from there.

    Great video, thank you. My question is: Often when I move a file using the PC Windows app, the next day it is back to where it was, and sometimes it's in both locations. And, sometimes when I rename a file, the next day I will now have two files: The original and the renamed version. Just last night I removed the ones I didn't want (again), and this morning they are back... Grrr.. I have reached out to support, but have not heard anything yet. Any ideas?

      Hmmm... that is really odd. I'm sorry that I don't have a quick insight (and that I didn't respond sooner!). The only thought I have is that if might be worth going into the settings/preferences of sync on your computers and clearing the cache.

    Great video Frank. I like the "Vault" option. The best way to wrap your ahead around that function is: for all files you'd use frequently, they just remain in the main sync folder (like having them in the filing desk beside your work desk). For the historical data/files you'd like to retain, but don't use often, you can put them in the "Vault" so there's less clutter in your everyday filing system (it's like filing them in the filing cabinet behind you in the back room).

I watched maybe 10 other RUclips videos and yours was the only one that answered my question! 👍 One suggestion is that you can be more specific in your youtube title so that users can see whether your content will provide the answers to their questions.

      You can sync your folders and everything is "synchronised"... or you can upload files to Sync Vault folder (this one, keeps your files on your cloud and you can delete from your hard drive).

    So if I were to lose my laptop and all the files on it by say a fire, would everything be safe because they are all stored in Sync? Could I simply buy a new laptop and logon to Sync and reinstate everything? Thank you

    • @LearningandTechnology
      @LearningandTechnology  9 месяцев назад

      Exactly. They would be stored off-site with Sync. This would be the files. You would need to reinstall programs and such, but all your files would be nice and safe.

    Thanks for the great video - very information-based. Much more so than some of the other videos I've seen, which are basically just ads. Since you seem like a genuine guy, I still wanted to ask: has Sync sponsored any of your content (beyond just an affiliate link)?

    • @LearningandTechnology
      @LearningandTechnology  Год назад

      They did! They sponsored this video (it is noted as such and you should see that in the intro to the video)
      I'm a pretty small channel in the RUclips universe, so it's helpful when I get sponsorships - I won't take any sponsors that don't "fit" the content of the channel though - I only would take sponsorships that I actually believe my viewers would find useful.
      I use Sync.com myself for quite a lot of my work - so I have a couple newer videos where I mention them in the context of what I'm doing (Virtual Machines, Cloud Storage), but those are not sponsored. Just the link on those.

    Why didn’t you talk about security. Also no linux support.

    • @LearningandTechnology
      @LearningandTechnology  Год назад +2

      Security is actually something I did want to touch on - it’s one of the best aspects of Sync. The data is encrypted in transit and at rest, the data is stored in Canada, and there is no data mining (unlike other services that have clauses in their end user agreements that allow for it).
      The features of Sync are quite extensive. So it was a bit of a struggle to decide what to focus on and keep the video a reasonable length. Sync is definitely great for security.
      As for Linux. There isn’t a native client, but the web interface is available. I didn’t test it on a Linux system.

      They will be local to any computer connected to the same Sync account - and all ... well... sync :)
      I do this all the time. I'll start an editing project on a PC, then use a directory in the Sync folder for all my editing. When I go to my Mac - all the files are there and I continue to work on the files.
      After the project is over, I move them to the "vault" - which takes them off the local folders of the connected systems.

    • @AhlexChan
      @AhlexChan Год назад

    • @LearningandTechnology

      @@AhlexChan I haven’t completely tested that - it syncs in the background, so in my case by the time I get to my other system the files are there.

      It’s for Teams - yes. It used to be just 2 - which isn’t as cool. I’ll have to see what my plan renews at - I have been paying $30 a month (I pay a year at a time)
      $45 per month would also be okay for myself - because I literally have TB to upload and it’s still a net benefit.
      Their individual plans do have a limit, but are also good. The 3 minimum on the Team plan is new.
