Just a heads up, I downloaded your buddies game and read through the rule book and it is full of typoes. Just wanted you guys to know so they can get fixed on next release/update. Particularly too instead of to and grammar. Not nit picking, generally wanted to help.
I started with the Space marine box about 8 months ago, I then bought an Ork Combat patrol I was totally hooked. Still haven't played a game, but I am having just as much fun painting.
I can think of a few channels that have covered starter set paints, but none of them would be brave enough to use the brush that came with them and try and emulate that beginner experience. Absolutely hats off to you, and huge bonus points for the quality of the video itself. As for that skit with John, I feel as though I'm the John in most conversations so this feels like a completely normal interaction...
Pure hobby zen time. Peak soundtrack, as per. Useful info, and as always not up self... A+ and then BOOM! "Uncircumcised brush" out of nowhere. I'm crying 🤣
Gunpla builder here that dabbles in minis for a change of pace…dude you THREW me when you whipped out the GodHand Ultimate Nippers. I’m over here expecting nail clippers or some kitchen drawer shit…..and then you start playing the Ace Attorney Jazz album?!
I am lucky enough to have an actual Warhammer store very close to me. It's been there for years and I've never stopped in. I've loved 40K and the space marines since I played dawn of war, so I am still fairly new. The deep lore has always fascinated me but I've never had it in me to take a shot at miniatures and painting because I am really not that great with painting. I stopped in my local store and the gentleman working was sitting at a table with another customer giving him some painting lessons. I didn't want to interfere so I quietly just browsed the store by myself. After a few minutes he asked me I needed any help, and I told him I'm interested in starting some mini's but I wasn't entirely sure. He recommended a starter set with 2 miniatures and a set of paints. He then said they offer painting classes if I was interested and I said I probably couldn't afford them and he gave me a surprised face. He said the classes are free, just come in lol. I said is there a schedule? He goes nope, just come in whenever. The customer at the table looks up and says, hey man, I literally just walked in here and bought my first miniatures and he started showing me how to paint them lol. It was honestly a great experience and I always thought there would be gate keeping or a huge learning curve. Def not the case, it was awesome.
Godhand are unforgivably expensive, but I'm never looking back. I have a habit of, if I end up with a gift voucher from work or a present, using it on a hobby tool that I like the looks of but would never be so extravagant as to buy with cash. Last Christmas went on a pair of Godhand clippers, and just wow.... I'd recommend not using them on transparent sprues, as they're reportedly fragile, but they're an absolute dream to use.
Yep! I started the WH hobby with the 9th ed Necron and Space Marine paint sets and 1 Recruit ed starter set. That $100 spend, became one of the most impactful purchases Iv ever made in life truthfully. Been enjoying the hobby for 4 years, now on my 2nd ed of 40k, about to be on my 1st ed of AoS. Id argue now though, the new 40k intro set is the way to go because you at least get playable units, on top of the paints and tools. Its a much needed upgrade from the 9th ed recruit box which was still good in its own right. I imagine 4th ed AoS launch boxes will be structured the same way as 40k 10th ed boxes were
Spend 10 minutes browsing for new paints and all of a sudden it's raining paint videos, cracking job. And now I've just learnt about skeleton rats.. I can't believe you've done this
They look really good considering the color options. After the fantasy RPG painting kit from Reaper, I happily got started with the hobby with the Getting Started with Warhammer magazines & the bigger GW paint kits (without the minis). I always thought between the 9th ed 40k set & the Age of Sigmar set that the Age of Sigmar paint selection was the better option, plus many of the better sculpts with a lot more character were in the AoS line.
I'm not gonna say if i can do it, you can do it too, because that's super patronising and lame to say, but it's a lower hurdle than people expect and they often cross it without realising after practice. A depressingly large amount of practice haha.
I'd like you to know, aside from the main content of this video, I really liked the Wayland games ad, and the skit with 'the bill' - the "fuckin 'ell" was a nice reminder of home too
First love the music choice. Second i got started off a class and a army painter fanatic set at my local lgs and when i say that one afternoon has utterl launched me into hyperfixation is an understatement
This was actually really convenient to see! I recently got into Warhammer, but didn’t exactly want to spend money on paints. I have a basic understanding that you took a break off Warhammer, but is there anything else you’d consider getting?
Bought an intercessor starter box two years ago. Still hooked on the hobby with a respectable pile of shame. While I don't play, I am warming up to the idea of playing solo Kill Team.
I saw Skeleton Warriors in that Thanks to my Patrons bit. Nice. I gotta say, the skits are usually a highlight in your vids. Not something other mini related channels can boast.
got to say the Tyranid turned out fantastic. I still remember the old Citadel Starter Paint Set in the red box with the little milk bottle lids on the paint. ( still have some of them actually) and when I got back into the hobby I got a Vallejo and an Army Painter starter set and each of those had a lot better range of colours for mixing up other stuff that might have been missing. These being themed to particular armies/units means that's obviously not their concern, but definitely not the worst initial purchase someone could make if they're getting into the hobby.
I picked up a set of those army painter drybrushes, and honestly, they were surprisingly good value brushes. Really solid quality drybrushes for a cheap penny. Not as cheap as a dollarstore makeup brush, but close.
14:00 "my taste in Ultramarines is distinctly 90s, so I grew up on pastel blue looking toy soldiers..." I first got into the hobby in the late 90s and I got one of those mail order starter sets you cut out of White Dwarf and posted to them with a cheque. I had no idea ultramarine was a shade of blue, so I ended up with a chapter of Enchanted Blue Marines
For your Ork type character, and without knowing what paints were available, maybe you could have darkened the green as the base coat, used the unblemished green and then highlighted a little.
this video was perfect for me - i've got the starter set and paints/tools set. I got my first combat patrol (Leagues of Votann) and wanted to figure out a colour scheme using the basic stuff
Great work dude, when I watch you I don’t feel I’m watching RUclips but more of documentary/comedy with all the effort you go into editing etc. epic as ever!! Have you got any plans to do some old world content??

First time viewer, just liked and subscribed, I really enjoy your unique presentation, the subtle humour is a refreshing difference to typical painting videos
I like to buy starter sets, especially if they come with a few sample minis. That way I can try to get a feel for a particular faction or model-line, without spending too much money initially. If I like the sample mini enough, then I can spend more money on the same stuff. Ditto with new paints and washes, like with Agrax Earthshade, that I had heard so much about before getting my own pot through a starter set.
I use Craft Paints (FolkArt/Apple Barrel) exclusively. They're what I'm used to, and what I can afford. Everyone else disparages them, but I like and prefer them.
Also, I'm 50 years old with a Seizure Disorder that can't be Treated using "Traditional" means/Medications. (PNES) I know ALL about having to Work around Shaky Hands. You have my Sympathies.

Who is this "theme of laura" cover artist? Those starter sets are very nice, at least for AoS, good value per paint, also pretty cheap way to boost army little bit if you have AoS Warrior Starter for example. Not everyone is die hard hobbyist and for someone who want to enjoy 15 vs 20 model battles with "toy soldiers" who he painted himself. I started AoS with Warrior + Dominion starters, then bought both AoS starter paints set + bigger set of paints (10, set with clipers and mold remover) and painted everything with my sons with them. Then we learned rules, played few times, put minis on shels and went back to WFB 6th and 7th editions ;) glad you liked those starters!
Can't believe you've gone back to GW painting after all the singular dog kicking they've done (allegedly). Still a nice level of positivity not a bad little show all around.

Heeeeeey, I’m doing that right now and filming it for my not yet released channel, starting from scratch, having *never* painted mini’s before, hahahaha, at least my miniatures will probably look like a noob painted them ;) I «tried» making a «wash» from the black color, thinning it out to shade parts of the Space Marines … results where *not great* to say the least, will try mixing black and blue for my next attempt - also I’m doing it «stage by stage», painting the first one exactly as described in the booklet, on the next one trying dark panel lining, on the next one doing edge highlighting in addition to the previous steps and on the last one trying to shade/highlight/drybrush for a more «3d»-effect … This is a great video though, should be a *must watch* for everyone thinking about getting started :)

I «tried» making a «wash» from the black color, thinning it out to shade parts of the Space Marines … results where *not great* to say the least, will try mixing black and blue for my next attempt - also I’m doing it «stage by stage», painting the first one exactly as described in the booklet, on the next one trying dark panel lining, on the next one doing edge highlighting in addition to the previous steps and on the last one trying to shade/highlight/drybrush for a more «3d»-effect … This is a great video though, should be a *must watch* for everyone thinking about getting started :)
