As expected, the epoxy resin burnt off, but because the carbon fibre is woven it had enough structure to stop the lava going through. Once a material has been reduced to carbon, that is pretty much it.
Plus, since the fibers are made up of nothing but carbon-carbon bonds, it renders the molecular structure incredibly stable. As such, it becomes extraordinarily nonreactive even at high temperatures.
It's not the heat that is the biggest problem, it's the weight..... Lava rolling down the landscape towards your property is more powerful than 10 bulldozers.
It's not surprising, the amorphous nature of glass renders it very vulnerable to thermal shock. Carbon fiber, however, is a true solid formed out of carbon-carbon bonds. This renders it highly nonreactive, even at high temperatures. The only reason the panel burst into flames like it did would be the resin that is used to bind the fiber sheets into the single solid panel.
I guess we're going to have to make everything of carbon fiber, even windows! If it can withstand lava, simple fires should be fine. 😉 You make the BEST videos!

I mean you could burn the Carbon to CO2
Unless it’s coal or smth
@@Skurtle But at much higher temp than lava.
I would never watch a movie with you...
@@RussellChapman99 or with additional oxygen
The resin in the carbon fibre sheet will soften and burn but the carbon fibre fabric itself won't as it's already carbon.

I really like that you use actual rock lava and not calling molten metal "lava"
ikr... cuz a lot of youtubers just melt aluminium and call it lava

Wow! Carbon fiber resisted lava, but bulletproof glass broke...
Btw, does the furnace get damaged in any way if you heat it to those extreme levels?

@@shadowtheimpure Thanks for the info! I was, in fact, wondering about it catching fire...
Yes it gets damaged, look up some older videos of him. There you see the old furnace.
And that's why carbon fiber in cars cost more
The fire underneath was both beautiful and terrifying
That was amazing. There was a definite power struggle before extinguishing. The powers of nature vs technology. I like both.
On the bottom of it, the fire looked so epic
Ben what would happen if you dropped a freshly formed brass ingot in a container full of liquid nitrogen?
An explosion

Carbon fiber doesn't melt that easily but it does burn. So it's not fire resistant. Just heat resistant.
Man the fire was majestic though.
I didn’t know carbon fiber was that tough. Damn.
Need more hate thou
Por essa eu definitivamente não esperava. Agora eu respeito a fibra de carbono ainda mais que antes...
Carbon fibre is really good
wow totally didnot expect that outcome, expected it to melt/burn thru
Great video Ben loved the result. By the way I found you on Facebook too.
Why don't you shred or crack to smaller particles your lava rocks before melting? You can put more of them to the crucible and they will melt faster
Well I didn't expect that!
Dude que buena calidad y producción de tus videos, tengo entendido que la fibra de carbono es muy cara.
Nice I really enjoyed this one I’ve seen it done in this way very cool ! 👍👍👍
Thats rly cool its looks cool under it when it Burns awesome video man
You never fail to impress my mind
I knew carbon fiber is though, but this was surprising, I was expecting to puncture the plate!
Well now who's crazy for wrapping my house in carbon fiber? Huh, Janet, you see this?
Please come home Janet.
I didnt expect that
So close to 3 million
Losing subs every day, so far away from 3mil ;)
@@PressTube Yeah so sad but I am subbed and wish you 3M soon before new year
It certainly did! Wonder whether it insulated heat well… 🤔 probably not…
I love these videos
Awesome as always
Pouring lava inside a wooden shed… whatever could go wrong? 🤔😉😁
For the next video please put that carbon fiber in the shredder
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I haven't seen his geese in a while. 😧 Maybe he ate them! 😆
Haha they are still alive. ;)
Do a lava melting alluminium
That was impressive 👏🏻
still can't believe the result
And this is why we see carbon fiber in expensive ass cars
Well I was not expecting that. Damn that stuff is awesome. Great video. Loved the fire!! 🔥🔥
I hope you were wearing a mask, because those burning epoxy fumes aren't very good for your health 😀
Im super surprised it survived, as has been explained by the bigger brain individuals.
You know you can do the experiment outside
Can lava rocks be used for something other than lava rocks?
Barbecue;)
Insulator, filtration, many things
It technically did not penetrate
I saw a flashover and will not be trying this at home. Stay safe!
Cool video keep it up
Try kevlar instead...
That's pretty hard
I would of done it outside 😅
carbon melt at 3600°

Bet the fumes are bad!!
Wel here is the solution for the la palma vulcano
Not a hole on it but fire probably seep thru it
It got hot enough to ignight the residue on the bottom of the panel, not seeping through it. Just heating and ignighting the oxygen below it.
Carbon bisa di manfaatkan untuk menghentikan kebakaran gambut
What in the world. Isn’t it made completely out of plastic?
Why would “carbon fibre” be made out of plastic?
@@JuanMarkk I don’t know what it is made out of
لهاذا السبب يضعون الياف الكربون في السيارات الغاليه وفي سيارات السباق و الفورميلا 1
Tidak menghentikan api, tp cukup untuk menahan cairan lava
Hey Presstube whats with you views??
what material is it made off??
carbon
@@attn. 🤣 man that was funny! Mostly things are made of carbon but I wanted to specifically know the process and material used in making this.
So the answer is yes but no?
The carbon fiber itself was unaffected by the lava, but the rigid panel he used was held together with resin...which was not quite so resilient.
It is not gonna burn
whoooooaaaahhhh
matur suksma
Carbon Lodi gooods
OMG!!!
