How to make 1930's Stuffed Mushrooms | Dining Through the Decades Episode 2 Season 3
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 авг 2022
- Hello Darlings and welcome back to another episode of Dining through the Decades! This week we are cooking delicious stuffed mushrooms from a recipe from 1936! They tasted absolutely divine and I hope you all have a go at making them too (they were super easy!)
Thank you so much for watching and I'll see you next week!
Lots of love,
Sage Xx
Here is the recipe for Stuffed Mushrooms from The National Mark Calendar of Cooking 1936:
Mushrooms
Onion
Parsley
Tomato
Olive Oil
Remains of fish, meat or poultry
Breadcrumbs, white and browned
Butter
Method:
Sometimes we can get large mushrooms only, and here is a chance to stuff them. Wash them well but do not peel them; and after cutting off the stalks, scoop out nearly all the inside so that they are merely shells.
Put them on a dish with the scooped-out side upwards, and sprinkle a drop or two of olive oil on each. Then put the dish in the oven for seven or eight minutes only. Take them out and turn them upside down.
Keep them warm while you make a stuffing out of whatever fish, meat or poultry you have, mixing it with chopped parsley and chopped onion lightly fried, and with the unused parts of the mushroom also lightly fried. Moisten if necessary, with some tomato puree, and finish with enough white bread crumbs to make the stuffing bind.
When you have filled the mushrooms with this stuffing, sprinkle them with browned breadcrumbs. The mushrooms can be stuffed beforehand, and kept thus until wanted. Then all you have to do is to put a little pat of butter or sprinkle a few drops of olive oil on each, and brown them in the oven for about a quarter of an hour.
Enjoy!

I usually don't like watching people cook but with you I make an exception. 😉 You make it so interesting & lots of fun!! 😍 I never tire of watching you. ❤️
Oh thank you so much, I'm very flattered! xx
I feel the same. Sage is just so sweet n witty n so talented!! I just love watching all of her videos, especially when she makes her own beautiful vintage clothing n gets all her make up, hair n outfits on n she looks so gorgeous. I love her Vintage style so much !!!!!
I used to think of stuffed mushrooms as a high class item. But thanks to your video, I now understand that it's a recipe that supposed to utilize what you already on hand to make yourself feel that you're eating something that's high class. Thanks so much for introducing this recipe! I'll be sure to give it a try and perhaps put my own spin to it. :)
🎼Athena Baker, you're such a good friend of mine, we known eachother since we were 9 or 10 what a shame....we got to get you a man, but we got to get moving cause time's a wastin', and when we're through with you I'll get me a woman too🎵
Be nice with a salad 🥗 wouldn't it :)
Sage, your channel is such a bright, cheery spot on the Internet. Your videos always make me smile! Thank you! :) I can't wait to make the mushrooms myself later this month.
I love the sound effects! I have a cookbook that belonged to my grandmother's sister from the late 50's. It lists suggested menus to go along with each recipe.
Yah! Hi Sage from Chicago!
I got good recommendations from @mycozabo👆👆…….look up ⬆️ 👆💊💯
I love how we're just watching and all of a sudden, here and there, we've got random extra clips, a Maude and Mabel cameo, and bloopers. You are the best! Thanks for making my night 🙂
I’m not a fan of the new editing style (too cartoony for my liking), though I do love the flashes of the backyard.
I feel like James added Yoda 😂
Some fresh grated Parmesan cheese in there would also be wonderful!! 🤩
Miss Lilleyman ,
Loving all that classic progress you are making in the world one vlog at a time .
Thank you for allowing us to time travel with you !
I love your blooper section; it makes my day, and makes me laugh. :)
I love your videos they are just so relaxing, peaceful and fun...your so sweet too!!! ❤️
I love them too Sage. 🥰💖
So glad you kept this series going, Sage! Love your voice and videos ❣️
I don't even like mushrooms, but I'd watch any video you make!
Yes please, darling you must do something from her book!!
Your food looked delicious. I think the stuffing by good inside peppers. 👍🥰
I love stuffed mushrooms! I didn't know they went that far back 🍄
I absolutely love mushrooms. Generally we only see tiny mushrooms stuffed around here but this looks like a decent meal. I will be trying this for sure. Thank you for the wonderful recipe!
I would add some finely grated Parmesan cheese to the breadcrumb topping. Yum 😋
I've loved Sages channel for a while but this has made my life complete.
It reminds me of my nanas cooking when I was a child. Recently, she's been diagnosed with Altzheimers disease and its been quite hard to deal with.
These nostalgic escapes are everything right now. Thank you Sage. 😘
My grammy used to make these- she called them 'kitchen sinks' because she used whatever leftovers she had that made sense together as a filling. Sometimes I adored them, sometimes not. I always loved when she had leftover cod/other fish.
The background music is so on so point for the 50's
Sage, this is awesome! This a truly addicting show and it’s so real and homemade (in every way!) James’ editing is great and really showcases your whimsical and happy-go-lucky nature. ❤️
You made one of my favs, I adore stuffed mushrooms. I have multiple recipes that I’ve created myself. They go over big at parties.
The outtakes!! You are a good sport, Sage 😉
I just love watching your videos! I wish I had the energy to cook like this when I get home from work. 😂
First thank you Miss. Lilliymanfor these WONDERFUL videos. Tonight I made these delicious stuffed mushrooms as a side dish for our Shabbat dinner. My husband loved them. They were perfectly seasoned. They were just perfect. Thank you for this wonderful idea. YUMMY😊
So nice to see your cooking videos be back! I love seeing all the recipes come together ❤️
Why do I torture myself watching these types of food videos late at night? 🤦🏻♀️ lol 😋
my favorite cooking series in the world! you are amazing sage 💕
Aw I am honoured! ☺️💕
Look up⬆️ ……:::::💯💊🔌
This is so fun! I love your videos Sage! 🥰 I love making authentic recipes from the past! I am doing a series on my RUclips channel doing a different decade every month! (Currently doing the 1960’s, I started in the 1900’s) one of my favorite recipes was a 1930’s Banana Nut Cake! It tasted like a nilla wafer banana pudding or a banana cream pie in cake form!😍 I am loving so many of the recipes i have tried!
My mom did them everytime when I was a kid and they are so good!!
Your ability to cut onions without becoming a mess with tears is uncanny. I simply cannot cut an onion without sobbing. 😅 lovely video!
I usually use much smaller mushrooms and just stuff with sausage then bake. But I definately want to try this recipe.
Your videos are delightful and you are a delight to watch.
Sweet sister, I’ve never made stuffed mushrooms before, but you’ve got me wanting to do it ! ❤️ I think I’ll add Italian sausage instead of the chicken, and also add mozzarella cheese. Loved seeing the chickens 🐓, I just love ❤️ them, so cute…Thank you, really enjoy all your videos ! Shalom 🙏🏼❤️
Haya. Yummmmmmy. I love stuffed mushroom. I could almost smell the delightful aromas coming from your kitchen. Thanku so much for sharing. x
I usually do stuffed mushrooms and they are fantastic. What's funny it's that I also get the recipe from an old book 🤣 Some of this recipes, like the different kind of doughs are somewhat outdated and therefore you need to look for them in to those old written jewelries that are getting dust on grandma's or grandpa's bookshelf or in bookstores that has used items. Anyway, it's a fantastic dish 🤗
Looks good. I usually use lemon juice to moisten and no meat. And I don't scrape out the mushroom. lol
I'll be making this recipe for sure! Looks yummy and I love mushrooms. Thank you Sage for your fun and relaxing videos!
the Pointer Sisters! Wow! I'm so excited!
First off, I love your cooking videos! I tried making these stuffed mushrooms today and they were so easy to make and really good! I never realized stuffed mushrooms were really just stuff u have on hand 😊
I’m loving this season and so far the recipes are looking amazing! Can’t wait for more recipes to add to my list to try. ❤️
I LOVE YOUR EXCITEMENT FOR FOOD, SAGE! 😂💕 This looks so yummy! The bloopers kill me all the time! 😂😂 Idk what it is about the editing, but it looks like the old school cooking shows; makes it feel so vintage. 👍🏼
Made the stuffed mushrooms. You are so right about the stuffing. Yum-OOOO;-)
Looks delicious. I'll have to try it. 😋
I enjoyed this recipe. Delightful. Thank you for sharing this Sage.
Oh my goodness Sage, another entertainer cooking special!🤣
Those stuffed mushrooms look so delicious.....going to have to make these! Thank you for being vegetarian vintage you; and including the chickens. Your herb and veggie garden is a credit to you and the cameraman skills, editing, and vintage music is to be commended.👏🐾🥰🐓
Jame's editing is on point in this video 😂😂

Oh yum!🍄 Lovely background music!!🥰 Still love that your vintage colorful canisters make it into your videos😍
Definitely making this!! Yummy! So glad this series is back! Absolutely love💗
I was so glad my husband found me the American woman cookbook from 1939 again. I had to throw away the last one due to unwanted circumstances. I can't wait to dive back in it and start cooking from it again ❤
I never get tired of watching you! Looking foward to more episodes!
Those look delicious! And I just can’t get over how adorable your kitchen is. 😍

Literally made my mouth water seeing the mushrooms when they were done!! Lovely as always to see another video from you!
Delightful and delish!
These look great! I’ll have to give them a try. Your videos remind me of my Mom-mom (especially this series) in the best way possible.
not me finding the new episode right when I need to use up my leftover mushrooms 😂 couldn’t have been better timing
Ohh how perfect!! 😊
I will forever enjoy ur content! Definitely going to try this recipe as I love mushrooms!
These look so yummy Sage! I will definitely try to make these.
Kind of ironic I run into two customers that I served today at my job that one loves our jarred stuffed mushrooms that she likes putting on salads or eating whole out of the jar like what you're making in this episode and another lady and her husband buying a lemon meringue pie like what you made in the last episode and to top things off, you premiered this episode at the same time I got off work.
Sage your version of stuffed mushrooms looked wonderful. I've made stuffing for mushrooms using celery, button mushrooms, onion, garlic and bread crumbs mixed with just enough olive oil to bind everything. For hubby I've chopped up a leftover hamburger and placed it in the bottom then covered with the stuffing.
I have been watching your videos for awhile and I really enjoy them! I actually enjoy the older editing style you had without the modern clips of movies/sounds etc because I loved being transported and found it to be an escape from reality but the clips kinda take me out of it :( I’ll always watch your videos and I’m sure it’s a personal preference but I go back and watch your older ones for comfort!
I did my weekly shopping today and saw portebello's came back. I was tempted to grab some and didn't. Boy do I REGRET THAT now.
Oh my gosh...the editing had me cracking up!😄 You have such a fun channel! Also, those mushrooms look delicious and have a much simpler cooking process than I expected. Definitely doable for me as a novice cook. Thank you for sharing!❤
Yummy!! Love your kitchen, too! ❤️😊
What a fun video! Lovely! I gave the recipe a try and added some crab meat. Just awesome. Thanks for sharing!
This is so heartwarming and lovely to watch! I really like your style! I love how your kitchen looks as well! Keep going, you’re so beautiful! May God bless you🤍🕊 Belgian kisses x
Yummy ,that looks so delicious. I bet it smells heavenly too. Thank you for the video sweetie 🍄🍄🍅😘💞
Ohh I'm definitely going to try these. They look soooo delicious 😋
these videos always put me in a good mood, and omg the intro is just priceless hahah .. top notch!!!!
Great video as always! Can’t wait to try out this recipe! ❤️
Look up⬆️ ……:::::💯💊🔌🥰🥰
WOW 😯 THEY LOOK SOO YUMMY 😋
They are! 😋
Those looks so good
Yummy. I have an idea. Find carved wood supports and stain them dark and replace your shelf supports. I think it will really integrate with the century your going for.
Oh my god, we are SO lucky to see your incredible videos, they are SO cozy and funny at their best! you are my role model! Many thanks and greetings from Ukraine :D
I hate mushrooms with every fiber of my being. They are my arch nemesis. But this made my mouth water and made me want to eat this. Looks so delicious!
Looks delicious! ❤️
I am going to try for dinner tonight !!!! Thanks for idea
Creating a delicious meal while impeccably dressed and 1940 style. Very impressive. Cheers from the pacific northwest. Canada side.
This looks absolutely amazing I really want to make it !
Looks absolutely delicious
THE YODA INSERT LOL. These sound sooo good. I want to make some stuffed mushrooms now!
heheheh 😂
I love this. I never see stuffed mushrooms anymore.
Pop your leftover stuffing into tomatoes, capisum, zucchini. I think it would also be brilliant as scrolls (like in a sheet of puff pastry rolled up, sliced and baked)
Ohhhh yumm great idea!!
looks delicious!! as a vegetarian vintage lover myself, it's so cool to see you make recipes that can be made vegetarian!
Looks really good the mushrooms and your hair
Thanks so much! ☺
oh yeah looks great
Sage you are just so gorgeous. Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe💜💙🌹
Aw thank you! You are welcome! Xx
Look forward to trying this!
I need to try this. 😋
