102. I feel like everyone has this one wrong. Maverick's arc in the first movie is heavily about his father, his death over enemy lines, and how he was blamed for the incident. I always assumed those were his *father's* dog-tags he tossed into the ocean. Symbolizing letting go of the chip on his shoulder about it and finally moving on.
Because... Why would Maverick have Goose's dog-tags? Why wouldn't those be given to his wife and son?
Top Gun is not a cult classic. It was a blockbuster film.

Gotta agree with Blingdream on this one. It's well beyond cult classic, having topped the year-end box office numbers for 1986.
Exactly Blingdream! Had to stop watching this video after that part b/c the narrator immediately comes off as not knowing his subject.
I was in high school when Top Gun hit theaters. Nothing “cult classic” about it. It was a mainstream blockbuster!

Maverick is everything MI7 isnt. Entertaining and well directed.
Both films are two different genres: military vs spy thriller. They're not meant to be the same. That doesn't mean the other film isn't as good. I thoroughly enjoyed both films. You should also remember that "MI7: Dead Reckoning" is made into two parts: Part One in 2023 and Part Two in 2025. Part One is primarily exposition leading towards the film's climax. The second half will deal with the climax and resolution. While you may see Part One as less entertaining, it serves the purpose to set up the main conflict in the film. Without it, those parts would be out-of-context, thus less entertaining as viewers would be confused.

The part about Rooster walking on the aircraft isn't entirely accurate. There are some areas of an aircraft that you CAN NOT WALK ON. But, walking on an aircraft is also a vital part of several inspections done prior to launch and after returning.

None of them were allowed to pick their callsigns, the only one changed was Hangman who originally was going to be Slayer (he had a briefer roll)

They didn’t retcon Mavericks storyline. Throwing the dog tags didn’t mean he wasn’t still grieving it was a symbol that he was gonna keep flying and keep going. Like Carol said-Goose loved flying with Maverick but he’s have done it anyway without him. Just because we move forward doesn’t mean the pain of losing someone you love ever completely goes away!

Shalom. In "Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation", Tom Cruise (Ethan Hunt), in the car race with Benji Dunn, I noticed that Tom Cruise's hair, in a certain instant very sweaty on the scalp, changed in the same sequence, to very loose, so the sequel to Ilsa Faust was cut short. P.S. I'm watching.
