    Fun Fact: There is (or at least was) a hot dog stand in the center of the Pentagon, and was one of the busiest parts of the building. It was so busy that the Soviet Union thought it was the entrance to a secret underground bunker, and as such constantly had an ICBM pointed straight at that one hot dog stand.

      Surviving being ejected out of a plane going Mach 10 is NOT possible in real life. So... simplest explanation is that it's a movie, and therefore not necessarily chained to the laws of physics. However, (and you may have heard this theory at this point), some people think that Maverick actually DOES die at this point and the rest of the movie is essentially a last dying "fever dream" where he reconciles with two of the people in his life that he felt most ostracized from (Rooster and Peggy), so he can die in peace, basically. Interesting, but I personally subscribe to the "it's only a movie" position.

    • @tronam
      @tronam Год назад +3

      @@carllyngholm5568 The only time a plot "flaw" takes me out of a movie is if I'm no longer emotionally engaged with it and any sense of verisimilitude is gone. In general I find the pursuit of them to be a pointless intellectual exercise that does nothing to enhance the experience and only distracts from it. Movies are artifice by nature and my suspension of disbelief only works if I can accept them on their own terms. Most of my favorite films are filled with contrived conveniences, unrealistic dialog and impossible circumstances, but I can usually forgive and accept all of that as long as they convincingly resonate with emotional or thematic truth. When watching a magic show I don't want to know how the tricks are done; I want to be tricked because my desire to experience a sense of wonder and amazement is why I went to the show in the first place.

Also, me being mexican, the movie never fooled us because there was a popular video by Luis Miguel, called La Incondicional, where he becomes a fighter pilot and, at the end of the song, he flies, you guess it, an F-5, the best our army had at that time... and still today. I still think Matt Pat failed to answer the question “Why does it matter if we know who the enemy is?” In their review of the movie, Chapo Trap House comes to the conclusion that the anonymity of the enemy is essential in order for the studio to create a nostalgic unifying feeling that calls back to simpler times when most Americans were not very informed about our government’s foreign opposition, and rather were willing to accept a blind patriotic stance against those they believed to be threats to the nation.
    In obscuring the enemy, the movie is able to recreate this we against them divide where we the viewers are all forced to be on the same side due to the simple fact that we do not know enough about our enemies to question how they are being presented to us by our leaders.

    I’m a fan of the F-14 primarily because of Top Gun. I instantly fell in love with the transforming wing design and fortunately for me just about every Ace Combat game has that jet as an unlockable! When I finally get some spare change I’m definitely buying Maverick on blue Ray. Hopefully there will be a bundle with the original too!

    With this theory on Top Gun, it makes me want a theory on Ace Combat 7 from you, but considering how passionate and knowledgeable the fanbase of Ace Combat is, I fear it turning into another Dark Souls type situation where Matpat is scared off from ever trying to tackle the series again. There's some great theory fodder in Ace Combat that could use an analytical mind like yours, Mat, I just hope that if you do end up making a theory on it, you familiarize yourself very well with the universe and be careful. I don't want any more shade thrown your way.
