The French word for those wooden clogs is "sabot." During the war, the Dutch were known to have occasionally dropped a sabot into a piece of machinery, making it immediately non-functional. Since everyone wore sabot, there was no way of telling who actually broke the machinery. The practice became known as "sabotage."

So enjoyable to see a Maestro who loves what he has chosen as a vocation! A very good dancer as well. I can't imagine anyone who plays Strauss so well being a poor dancer though!

And the melody is from the opera "Zar und Zimmermann" composed by Albert Lortzing.

@@janicelmckee I´m also a great admirer of Andre Rieu. But this melody is no Dutch traditional. This melody was composed by the German composer Albert Lortzing ("Holzschuhtanz" from opera "Zar und Zimmermann"). I think musicians who have created beautiful melodies should not be forgotten.

As You had yet seen, Nederland has a lot of small and broad rivers, so, if somebody falls incidently in a river, clogs can be taken-off in two seconds...more easely to swim. (^_-)

Clog dance, beautiful dancers dressed in typical costumes and clogs and a beautiful dancer André Rieu, shining in the dance with yellow clogs and spinning to the sound of the marvel of music that unites and conquers us in this place dreamed of with windmills and incomparable horizon .. How well achieved how much joy .. How beautiful. I was five years old when dressed like this in my first grade .. I had to dance this typical dance ... The memory appears. And magic happens .. Thank you.
