There is no greater agony in life then doing the windmill in clogs, the 6+ pairs of socks cutting off the circulation to your feet, toes squished together, hopping up and down repeatedly with your arms and legs pin straight, moving in a coordinated circle using your one, exhausted leg-exhausted as you perform the dances for the fourth time that day, sweating and sunburnt from being up and active for hours, chugging your water, now warm. Seriously tho lmao it was a really fun experience and u get free cookies at the fire station bc otherwise youll faint. Really fun, spinning in circles with giant skirts is enjoyable. 9/10 would do it again.

Until I was twelve I walked on clogs in addition to shoes. That is better for the feet than walking on shoes by the way.
I watch all these traditional dances and ceremonies from different countries and get all teary eyed. They are all so beautiful.... But then I watch traditional dances from my own country and can’t help feeling a bit embarrased... :/
I am Dutch too and feel the same, just because they make it stupid with women wearing male clothes, this shouting and this clothing what is totally not Dutch traditional.

Woodenshoes (klomps) are mostly wearing by farmers and traditionel villagers. Back in the days they where cheap and easy to put on or off. Becauae you know you are getting dirty most times at the farm. And dirty shoes indoors were not allowed
Wow I never knew that’s what the shoes are for. I’m Dutch but I only know of Mexican traditions bc I’m Mexican and from San Diego and was raised by my Mexican mom. My dad is Dutch and Irish and have no idea what traditions they have
The shoes were used by the poor people because wood was a cheap material to use and it would protect the feet during rough labor. Yet they are extremely uncomfortable. My mom once made me wear them to teach me tradition. But my feet got blistered so badly even while wearing 5 pairs of socks... I honestly don't know how these people manage to dance on them without crying...
Well this is no longer our tradition. I am 54, Dutch, and have never in my life seen this dance except on video performed for foreign tourists. It is embarassing to think we still dance like this. We still have wooden shoes though. They're warm and dry and not as heavy as you would think.
the guy on the couch x they're clogs (wooden shoes) it's how farmers in the Netherlands used to protect their feet while working (if anything would fall on their foot the shoe would break instead of the bones). They filled them with hay for comfort so it's not that bad if you're used to them.
I’m a Dutch dancer and, they’re actually quite comfortable! We wear 5-10 pairs of socks when we dance to keep our shoes tight and prevent any flyaway shoes during the high kicks. The actual farmers and fishermen in the Netherlands would not wear that many socks.
On the country side in the Netherlands we use them a lot. In the summer the clogs are cool and in the winter they are warm, especially when you need to milk the goats in the morning.
+aulia larasati I cannot, unfortunately. And apparently neither can they! Here's an article from a couple years back on the history of the music: www.hollandsentinel.com/article/20120508/NEWS/305089835
Please be careful on who you judge is Dutch or not Dutch. People that were kidnapped from their country and loaded on crammed ships and hauled to the Nederlands as slaves, their descendants are Dutch? They were forced Dutch. Muslims can't be Dutch? Muslim is a religion not an ethnicity. I understand that you mean by blood or ethnically Dutch. But take a look at the history of the Nederlands before these Dutch immigrated to Michigan and Iowa in the 1800s. Most of Europe had states controlled by the church, when there wasn't religious freedom. Jews were heavily persecuted, and the Nederlands was very free and tolerant. Many Jews and others who wanted religious freedom migrated to the Nederlands. The Pilgrims that went to the New World fled the Church of England. But they first came to the Nederlands. So some of the Dutch that came to Holland Michigan could be English or Jewish. And don't judge the whole of the Nederlands by Amsterdam. The rest of the country is very different than Amsterdam. Don't judge upstate New York by NYC, don't judge us rest of Michiganders by Detroit.
I don't know why but I feel so terribly replaced embarassed if I see this, this shouting was never done by these kind of dancing and so ridiculous to see women in male clothes. The clothes are also not authentic and messed up.

Great dancing from Holland enjoyed. Almost like American square dance. Enjoyed
thanks you just helped me with my homework

Cool, I'm half dutch. ☺
Same lol

Me 100%
I'm Mexican American and half Dutch.
Do you just wear one clog when you dance then? 🤣
I think this is an interesting take on dancing together and having fun. W a side of ASMR 😂😂

Nice job Dutch dancers
ehm, these American dancers are dancing in the town Holland in the state Michigan ;-)

The shoes is also for real use. My grandpa still wore them we he was alive
, wouldnt recommend.
The shoes isn't for dancing like flamenco 😂

@@Diolla_ How do you think the dutch SHOULD dance?
Do you have the name of this song? We are doing Holland for a United Nations project for lower elementary. And we want to do this dance 🎉😊
How much time did the Dutch people have on their hands to make this thing
Well this is in Michigan, not actual dutch
I know that, I’m talking about the Dutch coming up with the concept.
@@alarmmclock4460 This is as much dutch as an non- native American claims he is American.
I like the part in the second dance when all the dudes go into the little circle like we dem bois lmao 😂
Ik kan me nog steeds niet voorstellen dat dansen in klompen bepaald prettig zijn om in te dansen
You put six or more pairs of socks on under them, it feels like you don’t have feet so it’s really not that awful
Wij zijn de beste dansers
I hope they are wearing leatherette slippers in the klompen as we did. . wore them till i was 10
dit is een schande voor mijn land
@Mitzi Paap * Urk *
Why so?
No disrespect, but what's with the shoes? Is it like tap ? Are they comfortable?

The Blonde Bird Girl I was a dutch dancer and everybody in my group hated them. The only good thing was sprinting and stomping around to make noise
On the country side in the Netherlands we use them a lot. In the summer the clogs are cool and in the winter they are warm, especially when you need to milk the goats in the morning.
I would think metal taps on the bottom of each wooden shoe would help prevent the shoe from splitting or splintering
Shame on me for my country we dont do this shit anymore in Holland
Well, there are still clubs where you can do this! 😅😂
Vele volksdansverenigingen houden deze cultuur gelukkig levend. Shame on you to call this shit, no respect for your ancestors. Bad bad bad.
I want to visit Denmark . My great grandfather came from Denmark and married a Cherokee girl. This is my dads side. My moms side is German I think.
Are you aware that this dance is not Danish nor is it German lol... It's dutch, from the Netherlands
what is this dance called
Gabriel Spicer no
De boere trien tyfus dans
Klompendans - woodenshoe dance
Trynna Eat healthy Hahahah
Something That Very, Very Remotely Might Look Like What Ever Must Have Been A Dutch Traditional Dance......
The Dutch soccer team should play with that footwear.
😭
there are good for a military parade.... or during the night to go go to the washroom... everybody will notice that!
What is with the extreme blandness 😂
Can you tell me what song they use?
+aulia larasati I cannot, unfortunately.

I don't recognize the song..I'm Dutch but..I've never done this xD
I live on the dutch country side and we play this also. it's " driekusman "
I hope the dancers have something on the bottoms of their wooden dance shoes
Linda Thrall we don’t :(
Que Chulo I thought it would be a good idea to put the metal taps on the bottom of the shoes to help prevent them from splintering and getting damaged
They wear 6 - 8 pairs of thick socks. I danced for 6 years. It's actually not uncomfortable at all.
Oei dat is oud... this is how we dance nowadays. Groeten uit Nederland :-) ruclips.net/video/C5twgGev0Jg/видео.html
