      yess they will turn out fine. they will look like straight leg pants. but, if you're aiming for skinnies id suggest working in some decreasing. or if you're aiming for flare, id suggest increasing . good luck (:

    So cute!! But I have a question, I’m using a thicker yarn (it’s between an Aran and chunky) so I’m wondering what the width of the waistband measures so I can figure out how many stitches I need to get the same width as you? I’m thinking instead of 10 HDC I’ll do 7 and then do holes every 3 or 4 rows instead of 5. I would love some guidance thank you!

    • @thecrochethermit
      @thecrochethermit  4 месяца назад +2

      Helllo ,😊
      The height of the band for 10 hdc is around 1.5” to 2” unfortunately I can’t give you an exact st count with the yarn you’re using, but these measurements should help. As far as when to do the holes, that’s completely up to you. It wouldn’t make a big difference if you wanted your holes closer or far apart. Do what you feel looks best as it is your piece of art.
      Tips *With the yarn being bigger you will have to change the part of the pattern where you rotate between hdc & inc. unfortunately I can’t give you and exact count with out doing it my self, but I would suggest increasing every 5th st or maybe even more . You’re going to have to play around with that row. I hope that helps. Good luck 🍀 thank you for watching !! 😀

      @@thecrochethermitthank you so much for getting back to me so fast! This helps a lot. I’m just going to complete them based on my body measurements so I will just follow your advice for how to customize the size. I think it should be fine since I’m going off of measurements for each step instead of stitch count. I have a ton of the super soft “we are knitters - cloud yarn” so they’re going to be so soft and fuzzy and comfy. I will be sure to tag you when I’m finished. You do great work! 😊

    When we do rounds 2 until we reach enough rows or our rise… is the hdc into that first stitch marked with the stitch marker considered closing the row each time? I couldn’t tell if you were slip stitching it closed then putting a hdc in that same spot and starting your next row or if it is continuous. I’m doing a striped yarn so it’s noticeable that the rows don’t align. It’s ok if that’s normal I just want to be sure

    • @thecrochethermit
      @thecrochethermit  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi, So for these specific shorts we are not slip stitching to close the row so if you are doing color change, the colors will not line up. But if you want to do color change that align you would have to slip stitch at the end of each row ,change your color ,then chain up. Unfortunately I don’t have a video where I can physical show you. I hope this helps though. thanks for watching 🩷

    • @thecrochethermit
      @thecrochethermit  3 месяца назад +1

      Hello friend, so unfortunately this does happen sometimes especially depending on your tention even with both acrylic and cotton 😢. You can add a border to the waist band at the top, Iv notice that it stops it from stretching as much. But because hdc is more loops it just allows it to stretch out more. In the future size down keeping in mind that the shorts will stretch out. Thank you so much for watching, good luck ❤️❤️

    I’m working on the waistband now but my concern is, making sure the shorts will pull up past my thighs and butt once I’m finished with everything. Should I make the waist band a little bigger to accommodate? There’s an 8” difference between my waist and hips

    • @thecrochethermit
      @thecrochethermit  4 месяца назад

      Im not sure how it would turn out but it’s worth a try. You would benefit from an open waist band instead of closing it. Dont connect the shorts until you work the rise. Then the top will be open and you can corset the string through. That way you can open and close the waist part as needed. It’s up to you.

    • @BossiLadi313
      @BossiLadi313 4 месяца назад

      @@thecrochethermit would even 1-3 extra stitches make the shorts wavy? I was fighting for my life tryna figure out where to put stitches at the top of the rows as I have around 150 rows. I’m only on row 6 past the band so I can’t quite tell cuz when I smooth everything out it resembles a giant smiley face in shape. Hoping it’ll be fine because I need these in 18 days and really can’t start over again; this is my second attempt at making shorts because the last tutorial I used wasn’t as good as yours 😭

    • @thecrochethermit
      @thecrochethermit  4 месяца назад

      Wait woahhh I’m confused 109 rows ? What size yarn are you using and what hook ? . Give me your actually waist measurements and give me your hips.
      Also give me how many rows you did for you band. And how many stitches do you have currently after the increase.

    • @BossiLadi313
      @BossiLadi313 4 месяца назад

      @@thecrochethermit for my waist band I did about 150 rows(I didn’t count, just did a guesstimate by multiplying the number of holes x6…it’s waaayyy too many stitches to count 😭these shorts are probably the 2x the size you’re making in the video 🫠I’m using 4 weight yarn and a 5mm hook. My waist is 48” and my hips are 58”

    • @thecrochethermit
      @thecrochethermit  4 месяца назад

      So, the smiley face is completely normally especially if you working on a bigger size .
      If your estimate is correct you should have about 290 stitches.
      If your still on row #6 & it’s a slight wave I wouldn’t worry about it won’t be noticeable when you Wear them.
      But if you did happen to do TO MANY increases how we digested in the beginning & it’s big wrinkles , I would suggest turning it into a skirt . I know you said you didn’t want to start over, this is a solution to that & the waves will look nice in a skirt

  • @thecrochethermit

    Excellent tutorial, u never showed how to extend the legs??

    • @thecrochethermit
      @thecrochethermit  3 месяца назад

      I did . The inseam is the length of your legs so at the time stamp 26:02
      when I said “Continue working rows of hdc until you reach row #6
      (OR) continue rows of hdc until you reach your inseam length “ “ if you want your shorts to be longer please work more rows “
      that means if your following your own measurements continue working rows untill you reach the length you desire your shorts to be. Good luck ❤

    So at 20:10 i see the band looks like the parts in the middle ofgthe stiches but before it looked like it was more to one side? Is that correct and when splitting down the middle would i be going based off the actual middle or the seam?

    • @thecrochethermit
      @thecrochethermit  2 месяца назад

      Hi friend,
      I’m Not sure I understand your question. In the video I show you how to line the band up in the middle with your crochet hook 19:46

    • @cinnamon2559
      @cinnamon2559 2 месяца назад

      Hi thank you for your response so what im referring to is at 12:56 you have the slip stich seam only about two or three hdc away from the last hdc4, c2 ,hdc4 but later in the video it looks like the seam is even and is about 5 hdc away to make it even. So im not sure if i just saw this wrong but on my piece the seam isnt in the exact middle of the shorts(to get closer to my waist measurement) so should i split the shorts down the seam still or just shift to split down the aprox middle of where the first belt loop and last belt loop meet.
      Hope this clarifies my question a bit more thank you again :)

    • @thecrochethermit
      @thecrochethermit  2 месяца назад

      Hi friend. Okay I understand. When I said the part you slip stitch close should be in the middle, I wasn’t referring to it being in the middle of the rows with ch2. That really doesn’t matter. You want to make sure that the slip st part is in the middle like adjusting your shorts to make sure it’s directly in the middle, and not on the side. But yes shift it to the apex, that way when you wear your shorts that slip st part is in the back. I hope that helps. Good luck friend 💙

    • @thecrochethermit
      @thecrochethermit  2 месяца назад

      I really hope I didn’t make that sound confusing so to simplify it , yes you will spilt it from the slip st . ( in between first and last row in your waist band )

  • @thecrochethermit
    @thecrochethermit  4 месяца назад

    GUYS , please listen. You have to place 1 st at the top of the rows in the waist band. You can’t just work stitches with out paying attention to where you’re placing them. It’s going to cause many increases. The shorts will wrinkle up. The rows and stitch count HAVE TO MATCH , Please pay attention. Slow the video down and rewatch if you need to. I will not respond to this question again, best of luck 🤞🏾
