I worked at a Johnson Controls plant building air and sound control dampers and I was in the industrial round department. We used a Miller Continuum stack (feeder and 350 power supply) and Lincoln Powerfeed 84 on S500 power supplies. We either used C25 with flux core or 90/10 house mix for hard wire and had turntables, basically doing the same thing he did here. Materials ranged in thickness from 14 gauge to 3/8" (2mm to 10mm for my nom-freedom unit folks) and were mild, galvanized, stainless, or aluminum depending on customer specifications. Properly setting your machine and travel speed (manipulator or turntable) and getting comfortable is just about all it takes to do this quality of work. I used to literally nap on dampers 48 inches and above if they were at least 1/4" web.
You're the first UK welding channel I've come across lol
Ive learned everyone welds differently. Push, pull, bob and weave, dont matter as long as its a quality weld. Loved the video man keep it up. 👍
Thousand ways to skin a cat
Ive seen quality mig welds and tig tear apart as if only a good appearance of the weld but seperate as if it just layed on. And why it holds is like using solder to peice two wires, together . Just saying
The weld was, just there mig and tig . Anyway off this subject.
Second generation welder, CONGRATULATIONS Calvin, your dad MUST BE PROUD 😎😎😎
Allot of people call themselves professional.... This man is a very experienced welder. Not just a pro
It takes countless hours and years of constant and endless days of welding to get beads that look like his. Most of us so called welders get perfect beads like this once in a while... His are everytime! Cheers on this opportunity to have such a great place to learn and such experience to follow! Your luckier than most... Don't waste it! Embrace it!
What you're saying is right mate but if you've ever used a pulse mig... it makes a MASSIVE difference compared to the quality of the old Camarcs and Oerlikon migs

So many fitter/welders just jam that flange in tight and weld it. Sometimes that may be ok but on code work I was taught to give it that 1/8" gap inside then weld it. I love that foot pedal. Good job man. God bless. Work safe.
Spray welding is a sweet technique very useful and loos great and pass visual every time.
My kemppi minarcmig 200 evo produces welds like that. Its a much smaller machine so I'm comparing apples and oranges but ideal for a smaller application. Keep up the good work!
hmm thats like hobby level machine that can only handle short circuit.
That welding looks great!! 😊 Never heard this discussion about pushing or pulling the puddle?! I've been welding hydraulic cylinders for 14 years now and we always did what fitted the job, some of our pipes have pressure peaks over 350 bar and we never had a problem with shooting end caps or cracks. Love those Fronius also, some of the best machines on earth! keep 👌
True . In respect to WPS (if is not a note inside ), or a small feedback from weld inspector, i weld how is suits me. Just in 136 apply another rules.
@@CraciunNicu yes, I just started a new job and realize that these things are easier said than done. Now I have to make great weld in bad positions 😅 so I’m just a beginner now again 🙈
Nice welding ,looks like a great place to work. Stay safe friend.
Is stunning!! I weld on the railway!! Love the content an big love an success to you to cal !!!!
I'll give it to you, that's a good-looking weld.
A "perfect weld" isn't determined by what you see on the outside, though.
A perfect weld is determined by what goes on INSIDE the weld.
that welding shop looks like my kind of place. love the hammer and fabricated foot pedal.
That was some great welding. You can definitely see that he is an old pro at his job.
We run Italian pulse welders spinning 2" tubing at 25volts gives a lovely smooth weld with no splatter
I make a living repairing pin hole leaks on pipe work like this for fire sprinkler systems. Nice to see how it's fabricated in the workshop.
I always stick to, "if there's slag, you drag"
Mig, you aren't pushing any slag or running the risk of slag inclusion. If it was Flux core, I'd pull. Mig, metalcore and pulse, I always push
That is poetry by welder. Thanks.
Another wicked video with a massive 👍’s up. I love how smooth and clean the welds are and can’t believe how much the welders are. Your dad did a great job making the manipulator looks quality
Yes. Incredible weld quality indeed.
Alambre macizo 1,2mm. Gracias de antemano
We use ASME B31.3 at work. It calls out for a slip on flange that the outside weld size to be the lesser of 1.4 times the pipe thickness or the thickness of the hub. And the inner weld to be the lesser of the pipe thickness or 1/4 inch. So it was a surprise to hear how the welding was done there. But I assume you guys work to a different standard. Hope you're all doing well there. Cheers.
No standards there. All those guys cant pass an ASME test
Yep agree withyou, it's instant failure right away, tac welding on the inside of the flange 🤔 nice way to compromise the sealing face with accidental arc strike while tacing with no helmet,
Leave the inner fillet unobstructed of tac's
All tac's on the back can be full ground out once the inner welding is complete.
I would be too ashamed to put that on RUclips lol
+ Cut the oxidised wire back prior to welding every time.
No other power source like Fronius and I've seen many. Robot weld quality 👌
Yep
Lorch and gys will match any fronius, Gys is used by all the top German car manufacturers unreal welders got to admit tho these 3 brands wipe the floor with the popular Lincoln, miller and esab machines
So he makes the owner a few more bucks. Ten years later, he gets skin cancer, loses his eyesight, and his face starts to get flaky, hard, malignant sores. Anyone that can hold a gun still can do this. I did it too for years in a pipe fav shop. But I lived to tell about it because i wore PPE! Perfect example of disposable heroes!
You talking when he tacks? His hand is over the tack, hes not exposing himself to the light. When he does the actual welding he has full gear
Thats very true and also we are all aware of the safety of welding if he dont wear his ppe its all on him tbh 🤷🏾♂️
Nice. Damn near looked like metal core.
Damn robot welding right there. Incredible!
What types of gases are used and how much gas percentage please
The fronius is a beast of a machine
Yes
I went from a esab rebel to a fronius 3500c and the difference in the short arc is night and day..
Tidy work indeed. A very shallow angle on the outside weld though .
Thats great but where i work if pulse isnt on the WPS you dont do it. Good video.
here in italy, pushing is much more common. wps are more on pulling, but at a right drag/push angle , the difference is tiny. i prefer pushing. i think that the angle in the outside weld is wrong, too dragged.
WTF ,HOW MANY PEOPLE DOING A 12 HOURS SHIFT THEN GOING HOME AND WATCHING WIELDING VIDEOS ON RUclips
Bet that massive puddle is carrying some dang heat! My hands 🙌 lol
Ive run the Pulsed Mig on the Miller’s and it’s probably not as good as the Fronius but a very operator friendly process
We use Miller’s and the we have them set up I think to where the arc is very similar to this
Go ahead and just send one of those machines to my house amd I’ll make sure it works fine 👌 thanks bud
Thanks for good video and wisdom - brilliant 👍
Thanks dude
Hi Calvin! Nice vid as always! Keep it up! greetings from germany!
Fantastic welds 😃😃😃 Thanks
I think I've only done a weld that good once in my life and then I woke up.
j'aimerais savoir si le poste X5fastmig fonctionne avec un débitmètre
Those fronius machine are the mutts nuts man
When i weld with this maschine 20mm steel ,whats perfect adjustment amperage and wire, mag impulse welding??
I've always asked why don't we use mig ? All stick on pipe on site is what I know , mig looks so much quicker and easier?
100% thats why its used in more and more factories
nice weld , yes the fronius is a great machine , just too dear for a home workshop
I'm definitely gonna have to show the world how to weld lol
A welder shouldn’t drag because he’ll blow contaminants back on/into the weld puddle. Hence the Smokey finish on his external pass.
Overall beautiful welds. We use similar setups. Albeit they’re Millermatics. We use 90 co2 8 arg 2 oxy gas mix. Very similar arc to what I’ve seen here
I would fab a steady rest MIG holder that turns on with the roller
... Very well done ... Welington Heringer
One run on the inside or enough to make it look 👀 weld on the back should be 1and half times the wall thickness of the pipe 🤔
That's correct, on the back, = 1 and a half times the wall thickness..
But guess it doesn't really matter it that video's case as it was an instant failure at 5:47 running the grinder around the inside like that anyway..
Obviously wasn't fuel, gas, oil or steam piping with that kind of high quality standard, must only be back yard farm irrigation piping.
Not exactly sure why any one who is trying to produce high standards would tac weld on the inside of the flange opposed to the outside like that🤔.
Tac on the outside only, this leaves the inside obstruction free, once inside is fully welded fully grind out the tacks on the back.
Nice work on the face of the flange with the home made hammer lol
@@jb243wp Thanks for the info! Do you mind share more?
Wow that's awesome welding bud you guys are the best iv see at it in a while
The proper way is to drag unless push is the only option, its because gas coverage ?
If gas coverage was a issue then he wouldn't even have a faultless pulse spray transfer.. You can push or pull on pulse mig due to how it actually does the transfer
Both techniques have their advantages and disadvantages👍
Those Fronius welders are very good welders, they almost don't require an operator.
yeah i find the root pass settings on those almost cheating lol
Amazing 🤩 love it
Canada here. .nice
What a big fella 💪
I subscribe it to you just because about you said on 7:20.And your coleg have really god work ethics, and to stay ahead need to stay open.
Sorry english. Thank you.
Nice bead smooth be safe out there
I run a miller XMT 350Mpa
Was this filmed with a speed glas hood
No through a 9 shade glass lense
@@ARCONEWELDING what kind of glass lens i have never seen a green blue glass lens
Yup, manipulator, are in other words Automation, now you can just place the gun on a hanger, and throw the switch, and stand back and watch the weld.😊
I weld pulse mig on a miller pipework 400 on Pipe all day I’ve never once heard any of our machines produce that sound what where his settings? I run my background setting at 7 .3 arc length and 350ipm with .035 for a weld like that
i assume its the first time you heard a fronius then lol
Thats the noise of a fronius 👌🏽 and the settings are in the video
My ewm sounds like that on pulse
good job man
Good job done by a good woker !
135 or 138?
get yourself a pipe wizard. makes leveling tge flange alot easyer
"Oh yes BABY"
He should be wearing his welding helmet an long sleeve even for his prep works 😦
Interesting Hummer
Fronius is the best welders in the world
awesome work , love how he tacks without a hood i do the same its just too much of a hassle sometimes
If its Aluminum you always push especially 5xxx series
Hi quality 💯💪🇺🇸
I fucking love this profession
I think perfect pulse is a bit of a stretch there. Not a fan of smacking the flange with some wild hammer either. Better ways to fabricate.
What kind of wire do you use?
1.0mm solid core copper free forgot the brand
Fronius TPSi is The Best 👍
To me that doesn't look like a manipulater. Just looks like adjustable rolls. A manipulater has a turn table that rotates an changes the angle of degree the turn table sits at
Maybe i called it the wrong thing then, this was a set of rollers mechanically rotating
@@ARCONEWELDING if it does the job ma man that's all that matters. Your vidz are very good nice to see some nice work on RUclips alot are what I would call a load of f"""""g shit😂 keep up the good work
Good stuff 😎 😎
Welding like that and not sequence welding would make that flange warp heaps surely
I've had the same job for about 22 years. The product we build uses the exact same types of flanges. The one he's using his thick enough that it actually doesn't warp. I've even checked for warpage with a straightedge and it shows nothing. We do use some other flanges that are a lot thinner and they warp. I've also noticed that it depends on which side of the flange you're welding on. He's welding on both sides of the flange, which equalizes the warpage, if any. The thinner flanges that we use at work warp a lot though, especially if you only weld the outside.
The best way to do it is to weld one side simultaneously with the other.
Soldadura roles da la hace un niño de 6 meses mueve la mano con el tubo fijo eso si es soldar
"Oh yes baby.."
What a cake job.
nice weld
Плохо, когда нет кондуктора для приварки фланца. С его помощью фланец позиционируется меньше чем за минуту
The only thing I see wrong with this weld is that he’s not wearing sleeves, take care of yourself because no one else will
En posicionadores cualquiera hace eso , quiero ver que hagan eso en una junta de campo 🤣🤣🤣
Slip-on flanges…..And a manipulator is like welding a fillet weld, the only thing you need is good settings the rest is childs play.
Never hit The face of the flange
I don't miss the buzz of a pulse plant
By look of that there is alot of cold spots
And for the fussy welders push or pull its all down to the application and what hand you are left or right
Dönen boruya herkes kaynak atar iş sabit boruya kaynak atmakta hadi atta görelim
I'm sure the guy is a great welder, but the machines are doing the work while he just holds the torch.
When a formula one driver wins the Grand Prix... the car did the work, he just holds the steering wheel? Stop being a hater, it isnt a good look!
@@bwillis5258 I do this at work everyday. Have been for over 20 years. He's right. Once you set the machine and get your turntable speed right you can fall asleep doing this stuff.
Hello! We are a manufacturer of laser cleaning machines. Our machines can remove stains, rust, plating and paint on the surface of objects. Do you need these equipment in your production?
a little overkill for water pipe
Ofcourse thats the beauty of it 😅✊🏽
@@ARCONEWELDING just saw your comment, love the videos I need some of the stickers though!!!
Very nice, just beating the flange with a bolt/hammer is disappointing...A 4lb copper hammer would be a better option.
I use a huge / heavy leather hammer. Packs a wack but leaves NO DAMAGE.
@@kirstenspencer3630 My 4lb THOR hammer has a hide face....which are not hard to replace...the copper side is well worn lol
Where I come from, hammers aren't allowed.... 🤣 The moment someone uses a hammer you get the entire work force looking at you saying "wtf you doing?" They live by the saying if you need to use a hammer to make it fit, then it's wrong. If it fits like a glove, then it's right.
@@domgough7978 As a tool maker using a copper or soft face hammer to tap the job onto parallels is and was common practise....
What do you do which does not need a hammer... ? ice cream man?

Bro how are you not gonna wear any eye protection lol
So what are those small brown puddles on the weld?
Silica, its kinda like glass that forms ontop
Nice
Good
So why can't I get this kind of result with my $100 gasless MIG? :D
ask a r tech user and he would bet his house that he can do a better weld than a fronius..
Millscale?
