The tailed beasts weren't a thing at this point in the story. It was just a demon, then got retconned in shippuden.
Lee is definitely not him. Gara didn’t even use his tailed beast powers here. Dafaq are you on about? Not to mention Lee opened 5th gate to keep him in the fight.

The demon WAS the tailed beast Shukaku, it just hasnt been revealed to us yet at this point in the story. Its much later revealed that Shukaku was sealed inside Gaara by Chiyo before hes even born, confirming Gaara already had Shukaku even during childhood when he had this fight with Lee.

Yes the tailed beast did help a lot. Shukaku was the one creating sand shields to protect Gaara from Lees attack, Lee was too fast for Gaara to react after he took off his weights. Proof is at 1:20, Kankuro says "hes not doing it, it will come to Gaaras defense without him doing anything". He is referring to Shukaku controlling the sand to protect Gaara without Gaara needing to do anything.
Gotta keep in mind; Gaara had a physical embodiment of Chakra within him and Lee was still kicking his fucking ass.
I have to disagree. This fight showed how defensively monstrous Gaara is as a ninja. He ate everything Lee threw at him, forcing Lee to use eight inner gates and still eating that, too, and winning in the end. Lee was outclassed like crazy in this fight.

How so? Lee lost every fight and isn’t that powerful. If anything the show should be about the Uchihas instead of Naruto because of how badass they all are

@@Yaegz05 Madara became more powerful than hashirama in the end, obito became more powerful and lost to Kakashi on purpose for the sake of getting the heart bomb removed (not to mention he could only be damaged because he gave one of his kamui eyes to obito), Sasuke knocked naruto out the first time and stalemated the second time, and Itachi is an UCHIHA. Him killing Uchihas is also a win for Uchihas.

God even after all these years this fights animation and the fight itself HOLDS ITSELF TF UP.
Had Lee given up at the very end, instead of getting injured, he would have passed the exams. The exams are also about knowing your limits and when to not exceed them. He had proven enough by that point. Coming back and watching this, it's a little sad that this wasn't a little more reinforced by the teachers. Could have saved Lee a whole injury arc.

But that would also have been against the core of Lee's very character. Rock Lee is quite literally the little engine that could, ramped up to 11.
@Tanelorn473 I'm well aware, but keep in mind that the only chuunin to pass was Shikamaru. It was because he knew when to quit, even though he could have defeated Temari pretty much the way he did the sound ninja chick. It wouldn't have suited his strengths to continue because none of the people in the finals were really going to be vulnerable to his jutsu. It's why I said the teachers should have emphasized that fact a tad more, as knowing your limits and when to withdraw is also part of being a ninja. Lee proved, beyond shadow of doubt, that he could be a shinobi in that battle. He just needed to know when to quit, and he would have passed.

@@leohawk776 The thing is, Lee legitimately thought he could win, and almost did. Both he and Gaara were left on the ground, exhausted. It's just, Gaara had just enough energy to still control the sand and catch Lee, breaking his arm and leg. Had he not had that energy, Lee would have won. Plus, as Tanelorn said, it wasn't Lee's ninja way to give up like that, he got it from his teacher, who would eventually risk his own life and almost defeat Jinchurriki Madara with all 8 gates. That's just who they are.

Garra really had more than sand armor, he had that plot armor no jutsu. He whipped his ass so hard.

This is hilarious because when they first shot the 8 inner gates, they make it seem like God speed and strength, and then a couple seasons later at gate 6 & 7 he can barely hold his own (only exception being stronger opponents but point still remains)

Actually, in the early series of Naruto, Lee is probably the strongest of them all. They had to make him severly injured otherwise, not even Sasuke nor Neji would be a match to him. He can easily beat all tsunin level without even using the inner gates.

As Concero thought to himself, the armor is a weakness. Just pound it repeatedly, and eventually it can not rebuild.

@@CustomFitted He was better than Gaara. Gaara pretty much only had one move, and the only reason that most people couldn't hurt him, had nothing to do with his own skill. His sand protected him without him doing anything...and Rock Lee STILL stomped his ass.

Regardless of Gaara having "one move" Lee didn't have enough to penetrate his defenses. Lee at the end of the day has nothing but taijustsu and that was never gonna beat someone with an ultimate defense.
