If you pay attention, there’s numerous animation frames that have been recycled in animated movies like Robin Hood and Jungle Book, but yep they don’t make them like they used to. The good old Disney is pretty much a goner.
It was already a goner since Sonic and Shadow challenged him.
@ Back in those days, Sonic the Hedgehog (much less Shadow) didn’t even exist.
@@Lemuel928 We're talking about 1971. Sonic I'm pretty sure didn't exist until the 1990s. Disney was a good company back then. What it is now isn't even the same company fifty eight years ago. It's rotten now.
King John signing the Magna Carta is an actual event in history. The peasantry basically had enough of being treated like garbage so they forced him to sign a document establishing basic human rights.
It was the nobles who did that, yet it is true that the peasants also did also gain benefits from it as well.
Though also it was not the universal that peasants were always getting the short end of the stick before Magna Carta.
Correction, the lords brought king John to account.
Might have been more the lords demanding governmental power.
But yeah.
The Magna Carta was an attempt by the Lords to preserve and extend their power and privileges. Basically to set up a regime dominated by a council of Lords with the King under their control. For example the stuff about trial by a Jury of their peers was understood to mean Lords being tried by Lords who would "understand" and thus be shielded from the authority off the king and his officials. Or more bluntly shielded from legal repercussions when they abused their authority etc., at the hands of the King's officials.
The Document was originally designed to establish the basis for an oligarchic government dominated by the Lords. It's later effects and implications were quite unintended.
What you were thinking of with the king they thought was largely a mythical figure, only to find his remains underneath a parking lot was Richard III. In the play Henry V and in a lot of historic books before that, he was often depicted as a hunchback. When they found his remains underneath a parking lot, which funnily enough, always had a big rectangle over it that had a capital R, because there had been a story handed down that an unnamed king had been buried there over the centuries. When they exhumed the remains, they found not only old skeletal remains, but also goods surrounding the remains that denoted that a nobleman was buried there. When experts examined the remains, the fatal injuries they found exactly matched up with the old historic books about how Richard III died. They also found that he had scoliosis, arthritis of the spine, and old injuries to the spine and hips, that would have given him, at a glance, an appearance of being stooped over or even possibly hunchbacked.
No we've always known that Prince John was real. He would later succeed Richard as King John I and was famous for signing the Magna Carta in 1215. You were thinking of his great great great great great great great great grandson Richard III whose existence was also never in doubt, but it was thought that maybe accounts of his deformity were unfounded until his body was discovered in 2012.
Welcome to BREADSWORD, you'll like it here, for the sheer 'Did I read that right?', I recommend "Why Pixar's 'A Bug's Life' is *literally* The Seven Samurai"
heck yeah a fellow men in tights appreciater ^^ . gotta say though disneys robinhood has a special place inside my heart. it is one of the first movies I remember watching
I have said this before, but I still highly recommend Breadsword's video on Guren Lagann.
Not gonna lie, that Robin Hood anime looked pretty good
Modern story telling is weird about hero archetypes. Red covers this in Trope Talks and both of them do in Detail Diatribes. Multiple times. It's a trend I personally don't like. Escapism is one of my primary coping methods, though, so it makes sense why I don't. Or, in simpler terms, GET YOUR GRIMDARK BS OUT OF MY LIGHTHEARTED FANTASY/SCI-FI ROMP RIGHT NOW!!!!
Also, having grown up on Disney's Robin Hood, I can tell you its a fun experience. A true classic. And, no, I'm not old enough to have watched in theaters. I was, however, old enough for it to be re-aired on early Disney Channel when it was still figuring out what its programming would look like and for my grandmother, in defiance of every copyright law ever, recorded it and many other classic Disney films for me and my brother to enjoy as tiny humans. Those video cassettes are long degraded into unwatchability, or been lost in one of the many moves my family has done due to my parents' jobs, but I hold fond memories for all those old movies. And now I'm tearing up because nostalgia be painful sometimes. Time to watch honey badgers do honey badger things to make myself feel better!
There's a reason there's a million Robin Hood IPs. It's good. It resonates with people easily. It features a basic Hero's Journey. And those are all positive traits that don't need to be "subverted"!
You need to see Robin Hood. It's so good.
Honestly, the first part of his analysis kinda just made me feel nostalgic for the Disney-movie and sad that Disney doesn't produce animated movies like that anymore, it was more so a trip down memory lane and it wasn't really clear what he was referring to with the "death of color", but honestly, this second part with all the comparisons to OTHER takes on Robin Hood struck a completely different cord and made that point abundantly clear, so that now I'm just left feeling glad that Disneys Robin Hood was my first exposure to the character and in many ways is my defining image of the story... which is to say you should really watch the movie, I'd agree it's not the best adaption ever, but it's still an amazing take, especially for a younger target audience.
To get back to his point about the "death of color" and especially the final point about "how to kill a legend", I don't entirely agree with the idea that bringing reality or realism into heroic legends necessarily destroys them or their central message, after all reality isn't entirely without color either, but I do see his point, the movies he pointed out as missing the point of Robin Hood, they tried to create a "unique take" on Robin Hood by leaning more into the reality at the time, but I'd say their more fatal flaw was trying to go darker, make it more of a tragedy, and THAT is what actually took the color out of the story and killed the legend, not simply the realism but the intentional direction to cast it in a dark and tragic light, which in many cases goes completely against the idea of a heroic legend. There are of course heroic legends that can also coexist with tragedy, Heracles killing his family being the first one that'd come to mind for a very dark tragedy in what is generally still considered a heroic legend, but that is because part of the legend is Heracles going beyond that tragedy, lifting himself up again while seeking atonement in his labors. The only way to drain that legend of its color would be to render all of Heracles' labors themself meaningless, but that should be natural as that is the entire core of his heroics. So... yeah. This became a slightly longer rant than initially intended, but that's my take on the "death of color".
Old Disney best Disney.
i like the old animation style kinda more
It always has a charm to it when it’s not being recycled like it was in Robin Hood and Jungle Book. That’s the reason why Don Bluth left Disney and started his own studio.
They found Richard III in the parking lot, not John.
Thanks for this.
I hope you have a lot of fun diving into Breadsword.
I'll recommend the Castel of Cagliostro, but everything's great.
ah yes robin hood anime rembering seeing some episodes of it decades ago too on german tv - though besides the robin hodd part in its name not having much else connection to robin hood lore at leat from the bit robin hood anime I had seen
mfg
Olli
Mrs. Airier please please force your husband to watch Disney Robin Hood!
Actually i think Connory's accent is Scottish.
To this day THIS is my favorite version of Robin Hood, bar none, in animation....maybe closely followed by the version from the Fate anime and game franchise where he's a laid back trap master who uses an arm mounted crossbow for his famous Yew wood bow and a green cloak that renders him invisible when the hood is up and on. Of all the classic Disney movies of the past Robin Hood, Aristocats, and Sword in the Stone are my top three with Robin Hood staying at the top no matter what and the other two being in a close 2nd with it being whichever one I've seen the most recently that's in 2nd for the moment lol. I'd like to point out that of those 3 TWO of them, Aristocats and Robin Hood, both have the same voice actor playing a major roll, that being Little John in Robin Hood and Thomas O'Mallley the Alley Cat from Aristocats. Aristocats having some of it's animation frames reused for the dance in Sherwood Forest as Aristocats came out in 1970 while Robin Hood came out in 1973.
WATCH. THIS. DANG. MOVIE. stop saying you're really interested in this stuff and WATCH it!!
If you want to onow about king John, i sugguest that you watch drawn of History video about him. It doesn't go intohis relationship with Richard and his other brothers, but the iften forgotten event that Hohn was truely king...and people like him even less
Extra history did it better in the Eleanor videos
In the time period that Robin Hood is set, Richard I had been defeated by Suleiman, captured and held for a very high ransom. At the time his younger brother John was the acting regent, and in order to get the funds to pay the ransom, John had to greatly increase taxes.
@@oldeskul yes that was true, but this also was the same King John, would be forced to signed the Magna Carta year later for all the other stuff he did, beside raise taxes
@@DDlambchop43 I agree, but I still suggest to watch it. Eleanor is absolutely amazing, the video has some interesting details...and voice actors
The book is not sunshine and rainbows. It is a tragic tell in its own right.
Down to Robin subcoming to an undignified end by the hand of his cousin. Whom he came to for aid, but she let him bleed out for the reward. (If I am remembering correctly. It has been like 24 years since I read the book)
I was not expecting such an ending when I read it as a child. It kind of scared me. I prefer the more light hearted versions.
Breadsword is great, my two favorites I recommend are his TinTin video and the Lupin video.
Also watch the OSP robin hood video for more context on the legends.
Sup
I heard you like complicated Lore, so try Kirby Lore
there’s a good video by The Rpg Monger
(It doesn’t even have Time Travel, and yet that makes it more confusing)
I'm in tights is the joker of Robin Hood I agree with you but I also agree with him I just kind of agree with him a little bit more than you I'm sorry.
And some times King Richard is Patrick Stewart.
The Best of times, indeed.
Please Please Please watch the Disney Robin Hood. And the OSP Video; it's so good!
And Robin and the 7 hoods too. It's actually a good musical, if a touch grim
Yeah, this is pretty much the only type of Disney animation I like.
You truly should watch the movie. It's timeless.
Just looking back at stuff like Robin Hood and Great Mouse Detective makes me miss old Disney.
I like the pacifier too
You joke but its hard to tell when you joke about getting name of accent wrong and when you actually get it wrong :D
Yo again Airier still putting those suggestion bluenoob cyn vs caine,Finnbar's world tadc funny moment animated, hauntlich, chainsaw man musical
well if we take his analyse of if heroes is in a world of gray they become gray.
and look at the real world with it when was the last time we had a symbol of hope. when was the last time we didn't expect something bad to happen or someone who we saw to end up being morally against what we wanted. youtubers who claim to make entainment for childrens to not do it for the children but for themself to get to children or famous/rich people actually helping people. homeless people don't want to take food from people since people have actually tried to kill them with tampering with the food or spitting in it. and people are getting fake homeless people to act like they have been save by them for them to get fame on the internet.
15 years or so ago i felt like there were more hope giving people then there is today. like people are talking about Keanu Reave like he is the best famous person out there. but i feel like i can count people that do the good thing he does on 2 hands if not one. and i feel like 15 years ago 10 pair of hands might not have been enough.
sorry for the rant i think i got an exitential crisis duing this video
I really hate the modern bad faith take of batman that he's a rich guy who beats up poor people. If you can't write a batman you could imagine comforting a small child, then you wrote Punisher in a funny hat. Batman does not just beat up the poor to make himself feel better about the death of his parents, he stops organized crime and violent, dangerous, powerful sociopaths who have decided to hurt innocent people to get what they want and can't easily be prosecuted or stopped by the police. Many of Batman's rogues he still sees their humanity, and that they too are victims like him but have gone down a bad path and tries to help them: Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Harely Quinn, Mr. Freeze, Baby Doll, etc...
Others like most notably: The Joker, are just irredeemable monsters. He doesn't need a reason, he just is Violence. Chaos, and Sadism. And if people want to criticise why Batman doesn't just put him or some of his other more dangerous villains down...why is that his choice to make? Why does Batman need to put them down. He doesn't want to kill, let him not kill. He solved their plot of the week, stopped the villain, incapacitated them, brought them in. It's up to the legal system to judge their crimes and then sentence the joker, he can't keep getting off on an Insanity plea if every time he breaks out of prison he puts more people in some dangerous pun based Saw scenario.
27:24 green arrow.
after endgame there was a lot of shit, but theres also some AMAZING movires, like guardians 3, so just dont watch the shit and watch the good, dont completly stop watching
Do you think fate stay series would include a superman servant?
Robin and Marion is actually a good movie. It also uses plot pieces that are ignored in most modern interpretations. For example that Robin was poisoned, by a woman who was avenging the death of her brother, and Robin fired an arrow to indicate where he wanted to be buried. And that in some versions of the Robin legend King Richard I, Lionheart is not a good guy, and Prince John was not a cartoon bad guy. Further many of the early stories had none of that steals from the rich to give to the poor stuff which was very late in the development of legend. In many of the early stories Robin is a cutthroat outlaw and robber.
The fixed up version of the legend is a late version of the legend.
To get back to the movie. The story in the movie about the rebirth of the love between Robin and Marion is actually quite moving. Further the acting is excellent. If all you know is the "prettified" version of the legend and not the original stories then yes Robin and Marion is a surprise.
I'm sorry people have a problem when artists use another version / take of the original story.
The 2D Classic Animation?
where did the Last Epic saga go?
hey airier
are you going react to Helluva Boss season 2 episode 12?
