Awesome, I'd like to buy this for my car. I just got MAD catless downpipes + 3.5" single midpipe installed. The car's an animal, but I'd actually prefer a valve controller to keep those valves SHUT at almost all times. When they're closed in eco mode, it's the perfect sound to me, after my exhaust mods.
Thanks for the vid! I might try just unplugging the connectors with the valves in the fully open position first to see if I don’t mind living with no ability to put it into quiet mode for a while. Worked for my F-Pace SVR without any highway drone but I’m thinking the I-6 might drone a bit if it’s always stuck with valves open haha…we’ll see.
You can certainly put the car in sport mode, rev it until the valves open, and then unplug them. They will stay open, however, the stock settings do not allow the valve to be FULLY open. You'll see that its only about 3/4 open. With this valve controller, it forces the valves completely open. And obviously also offers the ability to close them with the push of a button.
Thanks for the video! I personally cannot hear TOO big of a difference. The idle is where it seems to change the most. The flow of fluid between a 3/4 open valve and a fully opened one would be minimal. It won't be anywhere near loosing 25% of flow. I DO like that they stay open and don't shut at idle, though. Just not sure if that's enough for me to no longer have it integrated into my M1 and M2 buttons (pairing to garage door opener would help a bit).
It is certainly noticeable outside of the car. Its even more noticeable with an aftermarket exhaust and catless downpipes. The difference between valves open and closed is much more significant in terms of volume.
Great video! When you use the remote to close the valves, does this essentially put the car into normal/stock mode where the valves will open and close independently depending on the driving mode you are in? Also, when you have the valves fully open via the remote, do you still get the pops and bangs on lift off in M1/2 mode? Keep up the good work!
You are correct - that is exactly how it operates. You also still get the natural burbles in M1/M2 modes. My car is tuned now so I was able to increase the burbles to my liking.
Like your other videos, great content!! I installed my valve controller but noticed that I was having a signal issue. I ended up mounting it in the battery well. Do you see any issues with that?
Appreciate it! Ive heard of others having signal issues too - having to click the buttons more than once. I dont see an issue with leaving it in the battery well. If it works better for you, then by all means!
@@Tweed22 There are holes in the frame on both sides. Both are plugged with a rubber plug. If you go this route, I recommend protecting the cables as the opening/ frame edge might damage the cable from movement.
Hey! I am thinking about getting this for my G80. I have a 2022 M3 Comp Xdrive. How many valves does it have? I'm confused on if I should get the two valve or the one valve controller. Sorry if this is a dumb question haha
Does this completely bypass the factory valve controls or can you put it back into OEM mode when you feel like it? Looks like the remote only had 2 buttons which I assume is fully open or closed
Another Good DIY video. I just ordered a Midpipe for my G82 and I'm thinking of adding the valve controller. Sorry for my super anal question, but do you think there's a chance for any rattles after installation. It would drive me crazy.
Thanks! You'll love the valve controller. It really opens the exhaust up. And I was afraid of rattles too but if you secure everything down, you should not have a problem. And since I velcro'd the box, it stays in place. I have had ZERO rattling or noise.
I dont unfortunately. Loudness is hard to capture on video. I will say, when paired with an exhaust and/or downpipes, the switch from valves closed to valves open is much more drastic. Especially from outside the vehicle. Much more noticeable.
Were the revs at the beginning of the video without the controller installed? Just changing the drive mode? And what mode were you using at the end when using the controller?
@@accelerated_motion at the end, do you recall what mode the car was in though? Wondering if those burbles were with comfort or if the car was also in sport+.
@@accelerated_motion agreed... Would you say this scratches the itch of getting a whole new exhaust? I just picked up my g87 a few weeks ago and it just isn't loud enough. Feel like my x4m40i was louder.. This is currently a lease so I'm just not totally comfortable with hacking up the exhaust yet
@@brelaxed13 For me, it does scratch the itch of getting a new exhaust. I was actually surprised at how much louder the car got with the valves completely opened. It actually sounds pretty decent now. Especially if your vehicle is a lease, you can easily revert back to stock in a matter of minutes. And a lot of these valve controllers require wiring into the trunk for a power source. This is also why Dahler's version is so much better/easier. It just plugs into the factory harness under the car and everything is mounted out of sight underneath.

I recommend climbing under the car and looking at your stock exhaust. You'll be able to see if there is a valve on each side or not.
Do they still open even when the car is off , or do they reset when you turn off the car
I believe the valves close when the car turns off.
I will be using bm3 after femto unlock; I know bm3 has an option to open the valves, does bm3 will keep these valves open?
Yes, it can be done in BM3, but I dont think its FULLY open still. Need a valve controller to force them 100% open. I run both.

The valve controller allows you to fully open the valves, as well as fully shut them. With OEM settings, the valves only open 3/4 of the way.
