When he was sick he was at a convention and I pointed him out to my son. Mike was not drawing he was visiting with other creators. He saw my son and motioned him to come over to him. He drew him a Supergirl. Mike is awesome.

I was saddened to hear about his death. I was living in San Diego in 2017 and happened to stick my head in a Comic Book store and struck a conversation with the owner. I had told him that I was huge into comic books back in the 90s as a teenager and that I had lost touch of comic books since I joined the military in early 2000. I remember telling him that back then I was more into the art than the stories and that my favorite artist was Micheal Turner and I had asked what he was currently working on or whether he was still in the business. He looked at me like his heart sank and shook his head and told me that he had died a while ago. I can't thank Michael Turner enough for having been a part of my childhood and the endless hours of enjoyment I had marveling at his art and creation. Rest in Peace.

Im reading the first of six nyx limited series and Michael's picture popped up with some kind words that read "He wasn't bitten by a radioactive spider. Or struck by gamma rays. Or injected with the Super-Soldier serum. But he cares about everyone the way only a hero can. And he was the greatest pal you could ever hope for. His name is Michael Turner. The world is less special without him." My day was made better learning about his beautiful and adventurous soul. Thank you.

I saw Michael a few months before he passed and I knew something was wrong, but I wasn't in the loop and just assumed he wasn't feeling well. He treated me and my kids like number ones and although I'll never get to work with him, I hope I can work with coworkers at the company he founded with the same sort of respect.

I was a fan of Michael Turner's when the first Witchblade comic came out, I was in the 7th grade. I had read Marvel comics a lot when I was younger and still did at the time but Michael Turner's art really touched me on a different level. It remember it was like hearing your all time favorite band for the first time when I first saw the way he drew. Many years later in the early 2000's, when Myspace was a thing and I was serving in the AF, I wrote to him a personal message. In the message I just told him that I was serving in the AF and I have been a fan since the beginning of his career and thought he was the best there was. I also told him how much I loved Fathom and how everyone was doing such a great job at Aspen Comics. The whole message was probably 4 paragraphs long. Not only did he read it but he wrote me an equally long message back telling me how grateful he was, how he was thankful for me being a fan for so long and also of all the fans in general and thanked me for serving. He also said he was going to print out my message and send it to the rest of the crew around the studio because he thought it was really nice and thought everyone would appreciate it. I wish I would have printed out his response at some point but now all I have is the memory. I always thought he was the best and still do and wish everyday he was still alive. He was so far ahead of the times with his art and can't even imagine the quality of stuff he'd put out now if he was still alive.

Very excellent video. I was actually just sitting here thinking about Mike wondering if anyone ever did any video of him and stumbled across this documentary. It was quite a tremendous shock to see the memorial piece I penciled featured in this at 37:30.
I only met Michael a couple times, yet meeting him left a huge impact on my abilities. With his trademark smile he seemed genuinely happy to see his influence in my artwork and encouraged me to continue down that path. The last time I saw him, he showed me how to draw a quick sketch, and talked to me about his thought process.
I'll always be grateful that he took the time out of his busy schedule to teach me in our few meetings. He was a great inspiration to me, and my biggest regret is that I never got the chance to work with him.

I'm so glad i found this documentary.
I've been a huge fan of his work since day one and he was a major inspiration for me. He was reaching that level of stardom not seen since the Image guys especially McFarlane, Lee and Liefeld.
He was the face of comic book art in the 2000s. Sadly we were robbed of many years of his beautiful work but we are lucky to still have his amazing library to look back at.
    He is truly missed.

One of my favorite comics I own is Batman Superman Supergirl. I think they made a movie on it too. It was fairly faithful to the writing, but didn't have his unique artistic charm.
Edit: it's the one 30 mins in. There we go lol

I also met him once shortly before his diagnosis was made public. Signed a bunch of comics and took a picture with him. He was goofing around, making jokes when people were taking pictures with him or of him drawing. He was incredibly fast at drawing, I though it was amazing how quickly he was able to draw his characters.
This was during his big tour with Fathom, Witchblade, and I think Tomb Raider. Pretty sad, I really enjoyed his work and he was too young to get cancer.

When Mike showed up on the Ballistic limited series, everybody took notice REAL quick at my comic book shop- it was like where the hell did this guy come from? It was like Lee and Silvestri had a smart ass kid brother that knew how to hit all the right buttons- you could tell he was pouring his heart into it. Silvestri hit the nail on the head, you could tell Mike was learning FAST. Not only did he learn while in the studio, but also make the artwork his own, that shows TRUE talent. He was a huge influence on me while I was finishing up in college and I just wanted to say "Thank You."

I went to a comic con in 2007 and he was there and i didn't have time to spend in the four hour line to get a picture and autograph and i told myself next year i would go. I went that next year and we found out at the event that he had passed away and man that took the loud noise of a convention down to a silence with grown men in tears. He battled a lot and never gave up hope and I know heaven is filled with his art. His wonder woman with the black backdrop and holding up her lasso and the storm image from black panther cover are two of my favorite art pieces of all times.

Fantastic movie. Thanks for making and posting this. A lot of guys from that era get 'slammed' for their flashy art styles but they made art people wanted to see and wanted to buy from the first wave of Image guys to the next gen like Mike Turner, J Scott Campbell, Joe Madureira, Humberto Ramos. I've got a ton of comics in my collection and whilst I enjoy the work being put out today, particularly by Image, I frequently re-read books and collections by guys like Mike Turner. RIP.

I've had the opportunity to meet Michael twice (once in 2006 and in 2008 just shortly before he died) and he couldn't have been a nicer guy. I just wish I said something more to show my appreciation for his beautiful artwork.
As for this documentary, it's well-shot with great footage but I do have a few qualms with it. Mainly, the lack of a narration to explain in more detail some of the more important aspects such as Michael's artwork and his attention to detail. Also, it would've helped more to see actual footage of Michael talking rather than just a bunch of still photos. I would love to see footage of Michael and the guys brainstorming ideas or even an artwork tutorial from him. Plus there are many things that are glossed over so quickly such as the Aspen/Top Cow situation.
It probably woulda been too expensive to edit additional footage like that, but had this documentary been shot and edited like a VH1 Behind The Music episode, the narrative flow would be much smoother. I'm not saying it's bad, but this coulda been great.

Hey Martin, I'm very sorry if I didn't answer earlier but I check RUclips from time to time and for some reasons I didn't see your comment before.
First of all I must say that I know the film is not great but you have to consider that I shot it in film school and I had about 1 month to make it from pre-production (counting the time to contact as many people as possible) to delivery. After the delivery I took some time to re-edit it with more calm, aside from that, the school program in the following months was so busy that I didn’t have time to schedule more interviews (even if originally I planned many more, but I coudn’t arrange them in such short time).
Watching the documentary today I know it could be improved, but like many other filmmakers (not master George Lucas:-) I’d like to keep it like it is because I think it represent a picture of my ability as non-professional student in 2009 and also a picture of how all the talented people interviewed were at that time.
Also, like I said to someone else, as a Michael turner fan, this documentary was a wonderful experience with amazing people, and this film with his pros and cons is a great memory of it.
I know many people would disagree with my opinion.
Coming to the missing footage of Michael, you’re right, but unfortunately there wasn’t any (recently someone posted an interview of Michael, but nobody that I know had it at the time).
      Thanks for your comment:-)
