I thought the same. It's such a clever thing to do, and I was really eager to find out how he came across the sample and what made him reverse it, but he mentioned nothing about it.
@@jren207 Still hiding and ashamed of sampling maybe? There should be no reason anymore. Yes this song launched a hugely successful music career and this sample is a huge chunk on that song and the original made no where near the money Porcelain did but there should be no guilt in that. Sampling was part of a bigger collective of artists from the time from Hip Hop, Indie, Techno, Trip Hop, and Dub/Electronuic music at the time that had a heavy foundation in the cheap 80's digital Akai samplers and 808 drum machines finding their way into the hands of bedroom musicians.

Hey Moby, i m a DJ from Rio de Janeiro and i had the honor of closing a concert you played in the city in 2010. 11 years later still one of my most special gigs. Porcelain is my favorite song by you, thank you for all the inspiration 😊
When I first heard Porcelain I was in a world of pain. I had just broken up with someone who was the one. I had to hastily rearrange holiday plans for my kids and ended up at Butlins on the south coast of England ( hell on earth for me but the kids had a good time). The only thing that kept me going was the Olympics and occasionally hearing snatches of Porcelain which I gravitated towards like a moth. That simple melody of crisp notes - man what power they have. Vowed never to go back to Butlins and spent the next 7 years taking the kids into the mountains of Wales. Thank you for sharing what you were going through at the time through your music. It helped me tremendously at the time.
Everything is good at Moby : his music, his personality, his sensivity, his philosophy, a very great artist and a great man !!! Un exemple à suivre !!!

Well I should‘ve mentioned among the younger generations :D So many young people don‘t even know who he is, meanwhile everyone knows who Scooter or Britney Spears are (bad example, I know)
I don’t know if you’ll ever realize how much this song has touched thousands and thousands of people. Through joy, grief, peace of mind, relief, despair, sorrow, bliss… there are sooo many human feelings that can relate through this song. This is a genuine masterpiece, and I’ve been coming back to it regularly for over twenty years, and it’s not about to stop. And now knowing the background of it just give it even more value. Just, thank you.
My favorite song ever, I remember I listened it for first time on MTV back in 2004, I rushed to get a notebook and wrote the name of the song to memorize it forever, 'cause that melody is so stuck in time, You can't tell is from 1999, it could be composed yesterday and people would believe it.
Hi Moby, in my best and my worst points of my life had your music, Thank you for you art. I overpassed my depression and my new love for the life are conected with you music.
So happy to hear you talking about this song again after all thoses years ! A instant trip to my youth days, with a beautiful nostalgia that I i'll always relate with this song till the end of my life. Thank you so much for all you created and all thoses brillants soundscapes and songs you brought and still bringing to the world.
Greetings Mr. Melville, ever since reprised porcelain was posted, I've been listening to Play and 18 on loop until you posted this 😇. Take all due care of yourself and keep composing, we NEED you, seriously.
Moby used the oldest trick in the book- if it sounds good forwards it usually sounds even better backwards. My theory is he tried the iconic string sample forwards at first, thought nah that doesn't sound quite right, press reverse- yes!!
What is better than Moby presenting a video of his new version of his awesome "Porcelain"? Certainly having "God moving over the face of the waters" as the background. :)
From Argemtina, 20 years ago, you made me see how the the music works in my mind. Now, today, I still have that felliing and I keep doing my music on ¨cheap sythns¨ and It stills makes me happy for my style living. You're great man. Thanx.

The music out side of the lyrics sounds to me so calming when you know the back story though of the song you think maybe it could be a nod to relief ending some thing bad
I knew the song but that was it. And now after so many years I listened to it .. ironically having all those feelings you mentioned. A kind of sweet saddness in every piano key. And I didn't know the story behind the song till now.
As an immense fan of a lot of your "old" music, I'm extremely looking forward to it. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for everything you're doing.
👏🏾👏🏾 whether its with strings on a synthesizer or the string section of an orchestra that piano melody cuts through. Seriously haunting line that Moby could accompany with tin cans and it would still sound amazing, Legend 🙏🏾
I love when my favorite artist do orchestral versions of their songs. I especially love all the Gothic meets Klassik collabs which lead to the VNV Nation album. I can't wait for this. I wonder what else is to come.
I'm more a "Natural Blues"/"In This World"/"When It's Cold I'd Like To Die"/etc. kind of person but "Porcelain"'s Reprise version is awesome! I get the goosebumps from that solo violin and the drums 🥰
Thank you Moby... When I was young, it wasn't easy for myself have access to music or tv cable, as MTV. And it happened that this magnificent and wonderful song came to me as a sountrack as you know. And that was after several attempts, I get to know you and your work. Since then, you're always in my playlists! Thank you again!
Thank you Moby for your magical and wonderful music! I was 14 years old when I eared Porcelain at first time on the radio, now I’m 32 years old and all this time your music has been my great companion. will be amazing, made with your entire heart and soul.

The true magic is the way he flipped the sample, odd he doesn't mention it because he should be incredibly proud
