    The two Tamrons are awesome! And definitely not only for "enthusiasts and advanced hobbyists" - they can easily be used for commercial work as well - that all depends on the person operating the camera!

    I have the Tamron 17-28, 28-75, and the Sony 85 1.8 all for a nearly the same price as just the 16-35mm GM. If you're on a budget, all 3 of these lenses also use 67mm filters threads so it keeps your kit compact. I'd say win-win imo

      Only thing I noticed from my testing is the 17-28mm does flair pretty heavy in direct sunlight (with the lens hood on). It ended up being artistic for the shots, but it could get annoying. Not sure if the 16-35mm is any better though

    Tamron is great value for this money.
    I have my Sony 16-35 F 2.8 GM for almost 2 years (100% photography, no video, shot about 20.000 photos with it), it´s my main lense for landscape, architecture and astrophotography; at 35 mm also for street and wide angle portraits. I use the 35 mm a lot , I would miss it (if weight matters, I don´t need an extra 35 mm lens), the corner sharpness (I own a A7R III) is very important for me (large printings). Sunstars and flare resistence are also important topics. The AF/MF switch is very helpful also the programmable button.
    But on the other side, for this price you can´t do nothing wrong with the Tammy...

    I would gladly take the Tamron if I didnt already start adding GM lens to my gear setup. (24-70mm & 70-200mm). Though one cant ignore the fact that having BOTH Tamron 17-28 & 28-75mm would still cost less than just 1 GM lens.

    I just bought my Sony 16-35gm. I considered the Tamron but chose Sony. I had the 16-35 F4 and sold it to help fund the purchase. I like the weight, the feel of quality, durability and the excellent image quality. I do use the focus hold button and manual focusing is easier with the switch. The money was a consideration and at more than half the price the Tamron was tempting. I just don't like settling for second best, if that.

    I purchased the 16-35 GM pre Tamron release. I LOVE the lens..I photograph mostly landscape..I am amazed at the sharpness..it does a great job at night and astrophotography as well. With that said, I do OWN the Tamron 28-75. which is awesome....if the 17-28 was around months back, I'd for sure have taken a look at it!! ANOTHER GREAT video..thank you Jason!!

    My oh my! I went to Kyoto in April, and I thought given the tight spaces at the shrines, esp the very famous Fushimi Inari-taisha, bringing the 1635GM would only give me more flexibility versus the 2470GM...man was I wrong! The photos it took are just breath taking! And because it's shorter and lighter than the latter, in the end it became the only lens I used for the rest of my trip!

    How in the hell didn't you find focus breathing? I have been using mine for 3 weeks, and shooting video, more noticeable so with very up close objects, it breads back and forth to acquire focus, almost like it's using contrast detection AF instead of the native on Sony a7m3, a6500 and a6400

    • @bobleetech
      @bobleetech 4 года назад

      I rented one last year and compared with 17-28 and 24GM on a7R2 & a73. Comparable with the Tamron in sharpness and most other aspects. Bokeh tho isn't smooth, and I would rate the Sigma 5/10 with significant outlining, the Tamron 6/10 with onion rings, and the GM 9/10. Autofocus is also a tad slower than the Tamron.

    • @matthoffman6962
      @matthoffman6962 4 года назад

      Bell Le that’s good to know. However, no one really get a wide angle lens for bokeh do they? The other thing is, if you’re using the tamron for architecture and real estate is it really wide enough? That’s where I think the sigma might have the advantage

    • @bobleetech
      @bobleetech 4 года назад

      @@matthoffman6962 17mm is definitely not wide enough for real estate. I would say go for the 14-24 or the Sony 12-24/4 if that's what you need. Otherwise, the Tamron do have front filters tho. I didn't have a chance to try out the Sigma rear filter during the rental (seems less convenient).
      Regarding bokeh - I regularly use the GM or the Tamron @ 28mm/2.8 for environmental portraits in addition to wide-angle landscapes. Thus bokeh quality is important to me, and also why I went back to this video about 16-35GM. The Tamron just isn't that great for this, while my other camera body is often occupied with 85mm and can't mount the GM. (The other option is to replace the 85mm with a standard F/2.8 zoom, but also some compromises to make) Admittedly, the Sigma is even less relevant.

    Basically: if the extra 7mm reach really, really matters, Sony. Or just crop. Seriously, you won’t get that much more background compression between 28mm and 35mm. Or take the $$$ savings and buy a nice 35mm.

      It seems like a lot of people are jumping to the GM as the competition, but really I think the f4 is the true competition. Because yeah, the GM and the Tamron are both 2.8, but there's also like $1300 between them. There's compromises between the Tamron and the GM, but you do get more (if subtle) for your money. Between the f4 and the Tamron, though? Now that's a great win. For me, I'm *already* not willing to spend 2200 on the GM, so it's really like, well would I get the f4 Sony or the Tamron?

    I went into the store to pick up the Tamron 17-28 and the sales person kept pushing the GM lens on my. I ended up leaving without buying anything. I currently have the Tamron 28-200 on my Sony a7iv. Do you think the 17-28 would pair well with the lens I currently have, or would I be better suited getting something different? I travel on my motorcycle so size and weight are considerations, but not something I couldn't overlook. If I had the space, I'd just get 20, 35, 50, and 85 primes and call it a day haha.

    I shoot landscapes and some astro, and currently have the Zeiss 16-35 f4 and Samyang 14mm 2.8. Do you think it would make sense to swap both of these for the Tammy?

    Are you going to review/compare the sigma art 14-24 for Sony a7iii? Thanks a lot!

    I wonder if Jason got a bad copy of the Tamron? His is the only video where the Tamron looks softer, and has worse auto focus walking towards the lens. Strange.

    How good is Tamron at 16mm and 29-35mm?

    Please make a video comparison of sigma 14-24 f2.8 art lens and zeiss 16-35mm f4

    I think for the price the g master should blow away the tamron. The fact this is a comparison at this price point just proves the tamron is better. Aside from actual practicality which they’re very similar

    Here’s my angle on the G Master series and other God-tier glass: If your income from a single photo, or photo shoot, could pay for Lens X, why do you care what anybody thinks about how you spend your money? If your income from a single photo or photo shoot *won’t* pay for Lens X, why the hell are you looking at Lens X?

    @Zason Vong I plan to do mostly wedding and looking at the current 17-28 f2.8 and sony 16-35 f4 will be a good call to consider the sony at f4 or wait for the sigma 14-24 f2.8 for the comparision

    I‘ve got the 17-28 tamron on a a7 iii and there‘s quite a lot fisheye style distortion for me but I don‘t see any in your video. Did you remove it in post?

    Focus breathing is a 100 times worse on the Sony than the tamron
