    Low-key, Tamron's consistent use of that 67mm filter is kind of a killer feature in itself. All their DSLR primes (the 85, 45, 35) and even the 100-400mm have it, and it saves time and expense.

    I shoot real estate as my profession and was using the Sony Zeiss 16-35 f4. Now that I have the Tamron I will be selling the Zeiss. Overall the image quality is much better with the Tamron and window blooming is much better controlled as well. Super happy with the Tamron and not missing the 1mm one bit.

  • @loudandclearmedia
    @loudandclearmedia 5 лет назад +7

    Color me impressed. I'm a real estate shooter and the 16-35GM is my workhorse. The 1mm at the wide end doesnt make a big difference to me as I usually hang out between 18mm-24mm anyway, but I really do wish it had a AF/MF switch. Already owning the Gmaster (which I think is a fantastic lens) it makes no sense for me to switch, but if something were to happen to that lens the Tamron would get a serious look before deciding what to replace it with.

    • @R1kka
      @R1kka 5 лет назад +2

    Hey Max. Thanks for the review. Now it sounds like Tamron has the lead on a lot of comparisons despite the lower price and I would agree to a large extent, but there is something I want to touch on that noone seems to be talking about:
    1. Looking at the comparison around @7:50 I assume you left your wb settings the same and just switched lenses for a direct comparison?If that's the case the GM looks significantly warmer than the Tamron - which leaves the question - what was more true to reality?
    2. And this might actually be the BIGGEST selling point - if you didn't change the settings, especially ISO you can see a huge difference in image quality. On the Tamron there's a lot of noise creeping in (you can see it on the back of the couch in the foreground and the couch on the left) It's a constant shift of purple/dark grey, black grainy pixels that are moving. Now you could argue that one could easily remove this in post, but the shadows in the shots of the gm are perfectly clean, and even lighter right out of camera which makes for a much cleaner image, and possibly more flexibility in the grading later on. To me this is where the price is actually being justified. And it is something (and probably the only thing) that bugs me about this lens.
    As a owner of the 28-70mm this is something I noticed in my own shots as well. So that seems to be a Tamron thing.
    So, in my opinion, it is a greaaat budget lens, but definitely not as good as the GM as a lot of reviews on RUclips are currently suggesting.

  • @photographerjonathan
    @photographerjonathan 5 лет назад +5

    So the Sony has 16mm and 29 to 35, so it has more focal range, the Sony Bokeh balls look a little better, but the blur background is pretty much the same, the focusing is faster on the Sony, as far as sharpness there isn't really a winner, but the Sony loses in many things, Sony has focus shifting in video. and is to big and heavy for a gimbal, so Tamron wins for video, Tamron zooms internally, the Tamron is smaller and lighter, has closer focusing, Tamron uses a 67 filter, Tamron has less flaring, ( better contrast ) and cost $900 dollars compared to $2200 dollars, hmmm witch one would I buy

  • @rattoh
    @rattoh 5 лет назад +4

    I use both new tamron zooms. I love the weight, size and price but at events, I always find that I rather have the GM zooms because I always finding myself wanting 24mm on the 28-75, and sometimes 35mm on the 17-28mm. I simply don't have time to switch lenses or switch cameras/lens on a gimble so often feel limited when using either zooms during certain parts of an event to get the desired look I want on the fly (like 50mm equivalent @ 35mm in super crop mode with the 17-28, or 24mm in tight areas with the 28-75)

The new Tamrons are as good if not better than the comparable GM lenses imo and offer some intriguing ranges. But that said, many GM lenses such as the 70-200 need renewing as tech has moved on. I want to get the Tamron 17-28mm for canon and trade in my 16-35mm iii. Is this a good idea? The 16-35mm is too long and heavy, makes it hard to take selfies with my family and putting it on a small stabilizer.

    It just occurred to me that the Tamron 17-28mm... Why not just go for a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 + mc-11 adapter?

    Thanks Max for the comparison. I really want to invest in Sony glass but can’t afford it. I’m definitely going to check out Tamron and even Sigma.

    I want that lens mount as tight as possible without damaging the mount or lens, so to me that would be a positive.

      I noticed the tightness when I first attached my 17-28 as well and can say after using it for 2 weeks it wasn't something that lasted too long, seems to fit like a regular lens now. The rubber gasket at the lens mount seems very high quality though. Seems very well sealed

    I have the sony 16-35GM, bought it when the tamron 17-28 is not released yet, I'm thinking of selling my GM then get the 17-28 + 28-75 tamron, is it worth it? I'm only a hobbyist. I would gladly appreciate your recommendations. thanks

    Thanks for your review! Furthermore, could ask you guys who has this lens did you notice that the aperture is really loud and gives quite sick noise or just mine is faulty? There is a rubbing, scratching voice when I switch on or off the camera and the aperture goes open and close. When I'm just setting the aperture only has clicking voice. I never felt/heard anything like this before from any lenses. Thanks in advance for the answers.

    hm... it may be a good lens for a reception shoots with a6400 (instead sigma 18-35, that heavier and focusing not good enough )

    I shoot wide open. Slightly ever sharper at F2.8 is better for more beautiful shots. Even if it is at the cost of a few hundred bucks!

    I don't know if it's your post, but colors on Tamron look considerably off. Other thing: I've heard (can't substantiate though) that Tamron uses some polycarbonate elements. There is nothing inherently wrong with that as far as light transmission, but plastic is more temperature sensitive than glass. So if you a pro, I'd stay away from Tamron. And last but not least. It's not that big of an issue in "normal" zoom lenses, but in wide zoom 16mm vs 17mm on wide end is a big deal. So considering all of the above, Tamron is not that much of a bargain. More of a trade-off.

    Thanks for the review. Have you compared the new Tamron 14-24mm DG DN to the Sony G lens? Wondering how they compare considering the price tag is very similar.

    Tried this and the Sigma 14-24mm Art in my local camera shop on my RIV. The Tamron doesn’t resolve 61mp very well whereas the Sigma was quite a bit sharper and its colour rendering was MUCH better.
    RIV/RIII shooters should look at the GM or the Sigma Art for their wide angle zoom.

    Is it worth an upgrading from the 16-35 f4 if you occasionally shoot astro? I have a Samyang 14mm 2.8 for that at the moment but could sell both lenses which would cover the cost 🤔

    • @StanleyKowalski.
      @StanleyKowalski. 4 года назад

      no. for astro you need 14mm 2,8.. best is samyang/rokinon in market. as i read, nikon 14-24 mm at 14 mm is also as good as rokinon 14mm

    I would buy this Tamron lens when A7Siii is out but with better color science, your video is too green and unnatural color with the A7iii, other than that love your channel and reviews

      Maybe it's because he's surrounded by green and it's reflecting. Quite natural actually
