- We raced the rain home from the Suffolk Strut Fly In at Monewden. Despite the rain it was a great event.
I am not a qualified flying instructor nor do I ever claim to be a very good pilot. I fly for fun and basically record for my own interest and review but upload because a number of people suggested that I should. I do try to edit for enjoyment and story telling and this means that some content is not always included.

There’s no more relief than that feeling of the wheels touching as the weather closes in . Just discovered via Rorys FB page that the Halfpenny Green flyin has been put on ice for the time being due COVID . It’s disappointing but in the light of the situation a good decision . Looks like we may be locked down here for some months as the situation worsens with every passing day . Stay safe Tim and my best wishes .
Sad to have to cancel but the responsible thing to do bearing in mind the concerns felt by the airfield operators. I am sorry to hear that it is no better with you. All sorts of mixed messages here over our 'Freedom Day' but I am still wearing my mask and being very careful. Best wishes to all of you and take care.
That belly camera makes some epic shots. You could show your set up one day. Glad you made it home safe.
I will film it again at some point for you.
I was wondering from last week how the journey home was. Cracking landing Tim and that RV of John's is a beast. Thanks for my Friday morning fix, now I have to go and wash my coffee cup up.
That was quite a fly by wasn’t it! Had to drink quicker this week?
A successful ending to a great day for you, Tim. Glad you got home safe before the rain hit. It's always exciting when you see angry clouds moving slowly towards your intended route. Avery nice production, again. 👌👏👏
Thank you Kevin. Much shorter this week but it has been manic as I have spent some time with the 4 grandchildren on the island.
Racing the weather is never fun but glad you got back before it came through. You are right, the cameras never do the views justice.
Yes Giles, landed and put them away before the rain. It did look much worse and when you can see a wall of rain it is time to do something!
Many thanks Tim. Always entertaining but this time more so for me stuck here in Dubai still on red ban. Superb aerials of my brothers house in the valley at Stoke- by- Nayland. I have avidly been awaiting for you to approach from this direction and alignment was right on the nose at 900 !. Just called him to tell him to get out there and cut his grass ! Keep them coming...and many thanks again!
Thank you for watching and glad I got it right this time. What was his response?
@@JodelFlyer Barely printable. But both he and his extended family loved the video ! ..and today Dubai has been put on amber list so inching closer to very much needed trip to SBN via The Anchor !!!!
Friday morning, coffee Angus and I getting our flying fix. Know that feeling Tim, constant checking of the clouds and the route ahead to avoid the weather. Always leaves you a bit worried. Glad all went well!
Thanks for watching. Good morning Angus. Looks like more rain for the weekend!
@@JodelFlyer sadly so, was hoping to get over to Barton to do some flying…
Beautiful landing! 👌🏻 Nice to see that you've beat the bad Wx, on your return trip 👍🏻
Thank you Jolmer
Thanks Tim, another well put together video. You raced the weather and won , but sadly it seems you will never beat John in a race, but then I guess that is never the intention. A real shame the you tubers event is off, hopefully it will be rearranged for a future date and still at an airfield close to me, driving time wise.
This fly by film is the only one I have so far which really shows the speed of John’s RV4. We will try to rearrange the Fly In.
What a clear example of the difference in speed between the Jodel & RV. John went past like you were in a milk float (no disrespect to the good old Jodel though). It was nice to see that John waited for you to land. I hope you had/have a great week and that everyone managed to keep cool in the recent hot weather.
It did looked as if I was parked up as he flashed passed me! We do look out for each other, which is good but speed difference is a bit of a miss match!
It must be Friday! Great video as always! Have a great weekend Tim! 👍👍
Thanks Ross. Have a good weekend.
I did't go in the end. It seemed possible but I was worried about the take off from Monewden in the heavy Warrior if the runway became very wet and soggy with the extra traffic. I was in two minds but caution prevailed. I was disappointed because it's always a great event but better disappointed than embarrassed or worse!
Very true and always best to be cautious. There is another one there at the end of the month (August)
Cheers Tim. Sorry to hear that the RUclipsr meet has had to be postponed. Hopefully I'll be able to coma along to the re-arranged date.
Is the crack in the rear cockpit window getting longer? It may have been the light playing tricks.
It was disappointing news (especially as I had booked a room with no cancellation! 🙂) Hopefully we will be able to rearrange at some point. The crack is no bigger as I had drilled out the end point as soon as it happened.
@@JodelFlyer I was preparing you all for the “sorry can’t come” note as we have a often postponed family event that day.
But hopefully I’ll make the new date
I nearly always find when I race the weather it wins or I get soaked putting away.
I was expecting to get wet pushing them in but we were lucky.
@@JodelFlyer Always nice to put the plane away dry.
What was the back up plan had the weather beat you to Nayland?
We could have gone into Gt Oakley or returned to Monewden, Crowfield or Elmset.
It does make me laugh how pilots over here complain about runways that are less than 2,500ft and yet, here you are landing on a grass strip on the side of a hill 😂
Thanks for watching Gareth. Not as difficult as it looks really and the hill slows you up if you get it right. Big tarmac runways with a crosswind can be a nightmare in the Jodel! Hope you and Rachael have a good weekend.
Yes, exactly what I was thinking 😋 I often land at runways of 1,200 feet long. It just takes some getting used to, that's all... 😉
@@ForFunFlyer It’s like the runway at Cedar Key. 2300ft usable but I’m usually down and slow in the first third. As you say, it just takes getting used to.
@@ZeroThreeDelta Ah, I see. Yes, it's all about practice. I have a special permit field near my house of 350 meter long. First I didn't expect to be able to land there at all, but after a couple touch and go's, I stopped within 150 meters...
@@ForFunFlyer What’s that? About 500ft?
