It didn't matter who Oscar performed with. You always see those musicians looking at him with smiles and admiration. There's a reason for this... he was a music machine, just brilliant.
His hero was Art Tatum. Shastakovich and Rachmaninoff moved to NYC and would buy whiskies and listen to Art Tatum. They said if Art did classical, they'd be out of jobs.
While people drool over amazingly-fast internet pianists who play their tunes note for note, Guys like Oscar are forever chased musically but never surpassed. We've seen him do this on ANYTHING hes playing and at moments notice. A true musical genius.
Better than that same old same old Art Tatum stuff. Tatum was one dimentional. Oscar Peterson is that and more. Thank You. Dean from Mountlake Terrace, WA (studio)
Saw Oscar Peterson with Ray brown and Louie Bellson headline the Berkeley Jazz Festival in 1979. The day was full of top line jazz groups, like Herbie Hancock’s VSOP. Peterson’s trio played for about 90 minutes. By the end his set, I had a vague memory of some groups that had come on earlier … I was in a cloud for two weeks afterward.
I’m so jealous! My family was jazz musicians (my brother Donald Bailey, jazz drummer) and I met and saw many perform over the years, but Oscar was the treasure that I never had the pleasure of seeing live.
This is wonderful. I had the good fortune to see three giants, Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, and Ella Fitzgerald, in a hall not much larger than this one appears to be, back in the ‘80s. What a night.
I was watching an old lad episode of Perry Mason that had a guitarist in it, and I thought, “damn that sounds like Barney Kessel!” IMDB to the rescue, it was Barney Kessel.
OMG, FANTASTICO!!! Modal scales were only created to explain why NONE of these notes sound wrong! Penn & Teller could not work out how "the band" joined in at 7.15:30!!!! Frickin' unbelievably awesome!!
Amazing rhythm changes in the right hand improvisation! And I love when his highly accomplished partners look at each other as if to say, “Wow! Holy crap! That’s mind boggling. I don’t know how anybody does that!”
in questo momento, Art Tatum, J.S. Bach, G. Gershwin, L. Van Beethoven, C. Debussy e lo stesso Peterson... stanno discorrendo di armonia su qualche nuvoletta in Paradiso
Astonishing playing. Whoever filmed it needs setting fire to. Trying to be clever with so many ridiculous close-ups and cutaways. I had to scroll down and just listen so I couldn't see the film.

And also a healthy dose of fear
And a super healthy lyricist on da piano
Not just smiles, but admiration and pride to be playing with the best in the world.

🤯
I mean, this man is absolutely incredible.
This is who god would’ve taken piano lessons from.
My favourite summary of Oscar’s art, genius and humanity.
That's a masterpiece!!! A man delivering his soul to music, through his hands...
The best piano player ever, no question! Mozart would be impressed! No joke!
His hero was Art Tatum.
Shastakovich and Rachmaninoff moved to NYC and would buy whiskies and listen to Art Tatum. They said if Art did classical, they'd be out of jobs.
Absolute brilliance. Unsurpassed technique. Incredible feel. Grooving like no other. Once in a century talent or maybe two centuries.

something to be said for a great classical interpreter but yes Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum are timeless geniuses.
Better than that same old same old Art Tatum stuff. Tatum was one dimentional. Oscar Peterson is that and more. Thank You. Dean from Mountlake Terrace, WA (studio)
Pure genius! And what a great accompaniment too! Doesn’t get better than this.
Such an amassing talent and mind. No good words to describe what I just saw. Incredible.
Oscar Peterson is the truth
Never has been, nor will there be, anyone that can approach what he could do with boogie.

the man had 5 brains
I actually found myself slack jawed whilst watching this!
The bass and guitar had to be super just to accompany Oscar. Neils Orsted bass, and Barney Kessel guitar…..
Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen
Joe Pass was the most adept at keeping up w/OP!
I'm not sure, Oscar has only two hands......
Fantastic!!!!
He's a Maestro on the piano!
And don't forgotten:
NO A I 🎹🎹🎹🎹👏
My Rushmore of jazz musicians
Simply the best! Alles was ein Superpianist haben muss: Technik, Rhythmus, swing, bluesfeeling und Persönlichkeit!

God really gave Talent
oscar is over the speed of sound
Техника на грани фантастики.
My only regret is that you can't hear his mumbling. Oscar is just pure energy in this. I don't know who enjoys this more, us or him.
Elegância, talento nesse virtuose, simplesmente deslumbrante e magnífico! Música pra alma! Oscar viverá pra sempre!❤
I was watching an old lad episode of Perry Mason that had a guitarist in it, and I thought, “damn that sounds like Barney Kessel!” IMDB to the rescue, it was Barney Kessel.
Incroyable! J’en ai des frissons!
this blows my mind to a place it has never ever been to before..

I really enjoyed this. Thank you for posting it.
He plays on top of the beat, sometimes way, yet that somehow does not detract from his insane timekeeping and swing.
Niet te geloven 💌Groot talent 💌wereld muziek !!!!Respect🥲🥲🥲
Peak civilisation moment
This defines working up a sweat!
He definitely earnt it
What a trio. Oscar was great at everything he touche, including boogie
What a beautiful soul, Oscar!
He had inherited some of Tatum’s DNA on keys! Took it a step further!
Take that in all 12 keys and you're good to go.
If anybody could have done that, it would have been Oscar!!
Oscar: “Hold my beer.”
just crazy ! brilliant !
A stunning performance, transcendent.
There’s just no stopping the Oscar express 🚆
Peerless, solo, ensemble and that closing-out sequence. Wow!
Thank-you!
Despues de very un video como este quien honestamente puede creer que el regeton es mas imPresionante?

❤❤❤
It's cool you can hear the click track! At some point he left boogie woogie 🤣🤣
Astounding! 🥰
Another world ! MV
🥰😘
Oscar Peterson! Grande!!!
Seems that this anthological video has been released a few days ago.
If you have not yet listened to the Oscar Peterson and Fred Astaire circa 1953, do so, some amazing collaboration.
After Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson redefined the purpose of the jazz piano. Absolute genius.
Hot damn.
in questo momento, Art Tatum, J.S. Bach, G. Gershwin, L. Van Beethoven, C. Debussy e lo stesso Peterson... stanno discorrendo di armonia su qualche nuvoletta in Paradiso
Mind boggling
Oscar..pre arthritis..the ART TATUM of my generation..love this soul
Oscar was burning so hot in his solo that the bass player was sweating
My favourite Canadian !
Monster 😮😮 Ragtime Father.
High point of human civilization
That chordal stuff Kessel is playing is harded than shredding
まさに王道!
Nagyon Szep!
un mito
Why haven’t they gotten his DNA?
wouldn’t it be cool to be in a room with a guy who, every time he touches the keys, you’re witnessing actual history ??
I think he's got Art Tatum beat on this one.
I think Oscar is clapping on the two..abt 4:10
Why didn't he remove his coat?????
He wanted to look classy 😉
“Too many notes”!
TERIBLE JOJO 4:28
4:58 ❤😂

Purely a Beast.
Kessel is brilliant..yup
Оскар хорошо играет, но Эррол Гарнер крутее джазмен и его вряд ли кто то сместит с пьедестала !!!!!
Playing the crap ...in suit!..bad choice of occupations if ya hate sweating like a dog in a suit running the mile..shoosh
