    Who does your drone footage? Wife? One thing I noticed is your tensioner is completely bottomed out on the eye bolt. Why wouldn't you loosen the eye bolt and remove an additional link from the chain to allow more adjustment down the road? The next time the chain needed to be tightened up all you'd have to do is tighten the bolt on the eye bolt to increase the tension.

      I agree with ya there....later on when I'm not in a pinch to get this hay off the ground I'll spend the needed time to do the job right for sure....oh...and as for drone footage...it's all me brotha....I'm flying and baling ...nobody else has ever flown the drone for me.....it would be nice ...but I don't have the money to pay someone for "farm help" right now

      Lance....it's funny man...You'd think you could just give a guy a camera and have him follow ya..or have some young man/woman come to the farm and help out...the long and short of it is that people don't know how to work with their hands anymore...I've had some paid help here on the farm and there's just a poor safety awareness...dangerous having folks on the farm helping....unfortunately most..not all...young people these days are too busy pushing buttons on a computer to get their hands dirty...need a guy thats about 25-30 years old that's got himself squared away....tough to find in this day and age...a ranch hand is hard to come by

    YES!!!!Same chain tool that we have with our GE 250Kw SW transmitter for the tune drive chains.Have had to do what you are doing---but lying down on the transmitter floor on your stomach.The coil chains and cap drive chains at the bottom of the final RF amp cavity just above the floor.also have bulk chain on rolls-sometimes easier to replace the whole chain from the roll than removing links and splicing.The air from the main blower blows up thru here and the chain collects all kinds of dirt and dust.Who says electronics is clean?This is the dirty part of it.

    I made a chain link grabber out of needle nose vice grip and carved out round groves on each side ( inside ) to help hold the chain and a-line the chain to accept the master link . It works on all chain except the small 20 and 25 Chinese ATV chain. You made a point about the tension pulling the studs on the master apart !

    Good video Mr. Josh. If I may give a suggestion or two. For big guys like yourself this may not matter but for we weaker people; the idler gear can be loosened by backing the springs torchen bolt off. That'll also make the rest a bit easier too. With my baler, the chains get oiled once a day. Used motor oil works perfect. Happy baleing!

    Good, Fast, Cheap - You can only pick two.
    It is amazing on how many things and decisions this applies to. What I find even more interesting is how people critique other people on their implementation of the decision.
    A Cheap - Fast repair is what seems like checked the boxes of importance to you for this one. It needs to hold together long enough to get the hay off the field and then go though additional repairs in the off season.
    In my mind, no one but you can weigh all the factors that impact and influence your decision.
    Great job on getting backup and running. :)

    Hi Josh Nice video with good information, but you forgot to mention something important ! the closed end of the spring clip goes in the direction of travel. It is not as important in a closed environment as inside your baler, but VERY important where something can brush up against a chain out in the open !

    I agree with JK, you need release the spring tension on idler pulley. I would take another link out of chain. On tensioner unscrew that althread to within 1" from the end (right side of the allthread). Then adjust tensioner pulley to left side of chain.

  • @Well_I_am_just_saying
    @Well_I_am_just_saying 6 лет назад

    When I was a teenager, I would always use a grinder to grind the rivet off. Then I would use a screwdriver to pry the link off. Your method looks a little quicker and easier.

  • @ptamer70
    @ptamer70 5 лет назад

    Josh if you loosen the bolt that pulls the spring before you remove links then you will have an easier time installing the master link and you will have more tensioner for future stretch in the chain!

    You could use a bit of bailing twine, seeing your on a bailer to help get the 2 parts together(as an extra hand) also holds a bit of slack to get the locking link on.

  • @garywaxler5537
    @garywaxler5537 6 лет назад

    You can also use a grinder to grind the "head" off of the pins on those links. That's how I learned to do it.

    The spring on your tensioner is run all the way in. You should back off the nut and remove another link. That way you'll get even better tension and when the chain stretches again you can just tighten the spring to take out the slack.

      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  6 лет назад +2

  • @Brianml101
    @Brianml101 6 лет назад

    Didn't see a comment, but a chain puller tool can act as a spare hand, it goes between the rollers and you tighten it up to pull the chain together, there a life saver.

  • @mikeduhm5325
    @mikeduhm5325 6 лет назад

    You need a " roller chain puller" , it's a set of fingers that pull the chain together. The master links that use cotter pins are stronger and easier to install than ones with the clip. In a perfect world, replacing the chain is a better option, as the chain is stretched and almost shot.

      1. Replaced Old master link (no change in chain length)
      2. Removed 2 links (2 links out)
      3. Re-assembled with 2 fewer links
