vs stack teams, I break the O line into 2 man teams. Front side Tackle and guard will combo and work the DE and LB on their side. Center and Backside guard will work the Nose anf Jack backer. BST has most dangerous man by alignment. remaining man becomes read key. Had good success last year. Easy to install and eliminates quess work allowing us to play faster.
That's how I block my inside zone play. Gotta have those double teams. The scheme you have blocking zone to the 3 technique of of a even front was a very helpful refresher due to the fact I run an offset back in my system and we don't see that often Do you have anything on outside zone

Sounds like I was sitting at a Alex Gibbs Clinic. One way around the weak side blocking 1 on 1 I would recommend Cutting with the tackle and climbing with the Guard when you are facing a 3 tech. I find that player has a hard time stopping the run when he is on the turf. I am not sure what your cutting rules are in Florida. We are allowed the box as long as they are on the line of scrimmage.
We certainly could cut the backside but try to avoid it on IZ since we are not sure of the backs path. OZ we would certainly entertain cutting the backside. I am far from Alex Gibbs but I appreciate the compliment!!!
Art Rivera In Pistol I had my back's aim for the outside leg of our PSG when they hit their break bend or bounce point which was the OL heels before the snap. Hope that helps.
I tried a counting technique in regard to OL. I must confess it didn't work will well with my 8th grade team. Our center wasn't making the call. I think shotgun snapping and calling the "zero" was too much. That was my fault.

Our playside guard and playside tackle are responsible for the end and the will. Backside tackle is responsible for the mike. Only discrepancy is, if we are getting a hard squeeze by the backside 4 or 5 technique (who we ideally want to read) we will lock the backside tackle on him and read the mike.

I go back and forth on whether I want the Center to work to the playside backer or backside backer. We get 2 gapping 4 techs and 0 tech with scraping backers it makes it tough. I almost want to just man it up and let the back read the stunts.

I agree with what your saying. The one thing my coaching staff and I are trying to do is keep their rules as consistent as possible for the kids. For their zone rules base blocking with the tackles and center and let the guards zone up to the backers. Use H back like a TE and send the H back to the playside backer and read the backside OLB. We can RPO him or run read him. The way you explain it is how I would want to run it ideally. The thing is I want to be able to keep rules consistent for my guys week in and week out. If you don't combo block the 1 to the playside linebacker and the 3 to the Mike, doesn't that become a gap concept if your linemen step to the backer or block head up or you a man concept if you number them 0-3 with 0 being the most dangerous to the playside A gap not a zone concept? A zone concept should take advantage of the combo blocks to clear the zone by getting movement on the two inside D linemen with their eyes on the second level to pickup a scrape or fill.
Why would anyone run against a seven man box when in a 2x2 or 1x3? Throw an RPO or relief screen all day long. You can't run against a seven man box with five blockers and QB holding the backside end with the option to pull and tun? The U might have running backs who can beat their heads into brick walls and be successful, but, I just don't think that there are a lot of high school backs who can do that and besides, you have numbers on the perimeter! Put the ball in the open grass. Like Jake Browning said when he had his mental break through when he was ten..."Coach, playing QB is easy. All I have to do is get it to the uncovered fast kids".
We can not cut the perimeter so teams here play the OLB'S a little tighter to the box and don't have to cover down on #2 as much. Unless you have big physical WR'S the bubble and stand up screens are a little less effective without being able to cut DB'S. Just my experience.
Yeah same rules in OK, it's really not much about blocking that come down guy, rather just get in his way to keep from making that play. My WRs are guys that can stretch the field vertically so they'll have to respect that. Also i'm not looking for an explosive on bubble just enough to keep defenses honest
If you can consistently get 3-5 on the bubble in base yardage situations then i think it will affect the apex overhang players. Another issue is arm strength of QB to get those balls out there in a timely manner
You have been using a 2x2 set the entire video but traditionally the inside zone was a two back formation or one back and TE, Barry sanders ran this play to perfection, when you have a TE or FB you should be getting two double team blocks during the play while still leaving a DE unblocked. Is this how far football has fallen that we are teaching concepts deliberately amiss?
Inside Zone can be run from any formation you want it. We do not play with a TE and we will use a FB but when we don't we have to be able to run the concept. Without a TE the defense will traditionally have one less defender in the box so its all relative.
Well whatever works but if that were my defense we would be playing a cover three, 4 under shell on you guys and show blitz up the A gaps all night, the DE's would be out so wide that your read would be inside for 60 minutes
Thomas MacPherson I think a lot of times coaches don't' know where the spread offense comes from and what it's turned into, your inside zone is basically the old school midline play where the quarterback follows the HB up the middle, only he shoots over two gaps rather than one and the HB goes opposite again proper d line technique and it comes down to one LB making a solid tackle at the B or C and the gain is minimal at best, I'm just taken back that so many aren't getting this there are only two ways to play offensive football you'd think coaches would have this down by now

yes the inside zone and midline should be different because the angle of attack is different, I get that I'm merely using this opportunity to rail on defensive coaches who have really hurt the sport of football, what is today called the spread offense should have never worked, in the 90's defenses could stop the option everyone has forgotten how too, when a defensive player allows himself to be dislodged even on a double team he is using bad technique. I do not coach for a living as it's tough to make a living at it.
Coach, in a perfect world I agree with the way you're doing it, but most teams on the high school level blitz one of their backers at least on the first two downs. How do you teach your kids to get off that double team fast enough so that the backer is not just running through the gap clean? That's probably the biggest issue I have with the double team. It seems that in college those middle backers are not blitzing as much. Getting stalemates across the board seem to work best. This also depends on your line splits. If you have tighter line splits, it would be best to double because without double team and getting a push, their will not be much running lanes,, but again, one of those linemen that are helping out better see that backer coming on a delay blitz or that backer will just look like an All-American!
Thomas MacPherson so what's your answer if the kids are struggling with it. To me, double team is a multistep word problem. Kids tend to struggle more with multistep word problems. Now if we create a one step word problem, their success level goes up. I'm just trying to figure out how to get these young men that might not play football on the next level to be the best they can be.
The only true answer I can give you is reps, reps, reps. I will try to address the "multistep word problem" ad nauseum until I am convinced we just cannot do it. I want it the best way possible first for the success of the play then we dumb it down if we have to. It can be frustrating but thats why we get paid the big bucks!!!!! Cheap humor
I am just a small MS coach and we always see blitzing backers out of an odd front. This year I was going to teach the basic playside step and hopefully as the season progresses we might try and double that NT. Would that be handful for MS lineman?

We try the same camp rule but the jack going B gap threw us a little curveball.

The thing with that box is it stays pretty stagnant vs 1 and 2 back so I like to add a Fullback and try and get 6 helmets and read one

How do you do spring football? Is there no season rules for your school or are you talking college?
We get 19 practices and a game in Florida

Your right, but sometimes you confuse the kids. Sometimes just gap and go you let back make them wrong. Just saying

Stretch your WR alignments and you will get a 4-1 box so that you get those OLBs further out of the box

I do a drill that is rapid fire with or without laces to get that ball out there.

Stay square on the double and when that backer shoots come off and shoot hands with great pad level. Its not easy we struggle with it.
