This was NOT a great breakdown. There is a major mistake here -- both plays were outside zone, there was no inside zone. What the author considered inside zone is not inside zone for the following reasons. 1) RB aiming point in the first clip was the crack of the imaginary TE butt, which is a standard outside zone track, 2) Inside zone is a frontside A to backside A gap play, the aiming point is the play side heel of the center, and NOT B gap OR the crack of the imaginary TEs' butt 3) In the first clip, the offensive line's footwork was lateral footwork, an absolute indicator of outside zone. 4) Outside zone almost NEVER hits outside, it usually hits the play side B gap, which is exactly what happened in the first clip.
If you are a student of the game (which I'm assuming you are) then you understand that naming and concepts are going to differ from coach to coach and philosophy to philosophy. Which is why I give the disclaimer at the beginning. But what you call "standard" my be original concept or what you were taught but the concepts I've learned don't line up with my teaching. Aiming point is playside B to backside A. Now that may be called something different for you. And there are people that aim playside A instead, but there are different ways to do it. From seeing a Rams coach at the time draw this up...this was their inside zone which matches the way I was taught.
@@BoomorBust I would argue that they are not both outside zone. The Rams are running wide zone, aiming for the inside leg of the ghost TE. They are trying to push the edge and cut up on the 5th step. The Falcons are running outside zone or stretch. Aiming outside the TE and trying to circle the defense and get the edge.

Sorry bro but the 1st play is outside Zone. Front side center/RG are reach blocking to seal the Def Tackle to the backside and the RG is working hard to get up field to the LB (who takes himself out of the play). You can tell this because the centers target on the DT is "center to RT side of the DT". With the LB shooting the A gap, center comes off to the LB to seal him to the back side. If it was inside zone, center would have worked to the left side of the DE, as would have the RG, and would have stayed flat on the block. Also, Look @ 6:52 and you will see that all the Defenders are being sealed to the backside, away from the Offensive RT edge, except the DE. The RT initially goes for the reach block, but the DE recognizes the reach block and pushes upfield, which allows the RT to seal him out and away.
How is the RG reach blocking someone inside of him? The center and RG are zone combo to the playside LB, that's the aiming point per the inside zone I've learned. Once the playside LB declares then the decision is made for the zone combo. I don't really know what you mean about the left side of the DE. I disagree with the playside OT, that doesn't look like a reach block to me, and given that it's Havenstein with no help, that would be a very poor choice because he isn't reaching any 5-tech, which is why the Rams were very heavy inside zone at that time anyway.

The first play is outside zone. The steps do not matter for the OL… it’s the aiming point. The RB steps are aiming outside the OT which shows its outside zone. If you are going to have a tutorial video you should know what you are talking about first.
