Do you know anyone who would install this for me? I wouldn’t trust myself doing all this 🙈
I did this job yesterday after watching this and one other video. My objective was to replace the center ac vent piece. it took me about 90 minutes only because I was being super careful and because the dash didn't pop back in right away. If that is all you want to do, or you want to get the dash portion that has the ac controls on them, you do not need to remove or disconnect anything other than the housing around the key, the end cap on the passenger side (with door opened) and the housing around the audio. you will need to unscrew the audio just enough to access the two t15 hex bolts above it. So you can pull up the shifter boot with your hands, let it hang, pull up the center console with the sport, ebrake, idrive components on them with you hands, leave it loose which will allow you access to the bottom of the housing around the audio. I recommend a medium size towel between the radio and the center piece to prevent it from scratching. I recommend a plastic hook tool that comes with the trim panel removal kit only because it is a tight fit, maybe you can get your fingers in there. pull that housing straight back and off from the bottom then the sides, then the four phillips screws at the bottom of the audio, pull it out about 2 inches and it will allow you access to the two hex bolts using a stubby driver. the fitting around the key is pretty sturdy, and all of the pins are on the non key hole side of it so I recommend going from that side. the end cap on the passenger side by the vent is a little fragile, but work around it with a plastic pry too and it will pop off. make sure it goes back in behind the rubber weather stripping around the door. I recommend taking out all the t15 hex screws within the glove box, (apx 6) and just keep order as to where they came out from (some are slightly longer, but all the same circumference). if you are going for the ac vents alone, once you pop out the dash piece it will allow you access to the two bolts holding it in and you are there. so the only thing I am trying to help out with is that you do not need to disconnect any of the plugs until you get to the part you are trying to remove.
What a great tutorial! Thank you! I only realized while following your setup - that actually the system also works without the aux cable into the aux port - apparently the sound signal goes to the main unit through the wiring harness as well!
Sweet armed with this I'll be putting her in next day or so. :)
Hello and congratulations, very professional in the assembly, with many details, I want to mount on my BMW z4 2.0i e89 and thanks to your video I think I can mount it independently
Oh my goodness - how is this possible . These guys can probably qualify to fix a damn nuclear submarine.
Isn't he amazing? And he's on some of the Z4 Facebook pages helping idiots like me out of the goodness of his heart.
I have to say you are detailed in this video and was able to follow all without any issues - great job. I do have one question, when I took the box out there are two wires - what the heck is that for? First I thought it may be a contact switch if the cover is left open - nope it’s not, a light? I had this z since new 2009 35 without the iDrive. Anyone know?
Hi, really great tutorial. I think i will try to install this unit on my Z4. I still have a question : My Z4 has a phone button on the steering wheel but "disable" (the option is not activated on my car I guess). Do I need to connect some cable to get Phone call working on the steering wheel ? May be i need to add a micro phone ? Also I would like to add a reversing camera, do you have a great tutorial for me ? Thanks a lot ;)
Where can I get the head unit and installation kit from, and what is the price ? Cheers
You look like Mr Bean
David, at the 30:00 mark, you talk about taking the green and serated fiber optic cable and moving it to the new loom. In the instruction o got they only seem to reference the optical fiber. Can you tell me if I am to transplant just the green wire, or also the black serrated wire? Also how to remove both of those wires? Is it simply pulling both wires away from the back of the OEM plug and then plugging into the new loom? I'm at this point right now. Thanks,
Hi thanks for the video, I’ve successfully installed mine following your instructions. Very pleased with the unit however a bit disappointed with the supplied idrive controller (no forwards backward and side to side movements) which reduces the ease of use in menus. Therefore I have bought a stock BMW e89 idrive controller but the connector is different. I understand they both use CANbus so it seems feasible to connect this to the system. Have you got any experience of this on or any advice on how I can adapt the lead
Only this Idrive control, 2 crews can`t fit, but it can`t influence the using and face
Great videos! I have installed the same unit; however, my screen is frozen and stuck. Would you know how to fix the issue?
Is there anyway to connect the AUX in the center console to the aftermarket unit under the interior, rather than through the factory AUXport? This way you don't need to drill into the center console to hook the aftermarket navigation screen up to the factory AUX location. I would prefer to have the factory AUX not hooked up (ie. be a dead plug that isn't connected to anything) than to see a wire coming from a hole drilled in the center console.
Ideally the AUX (and USB) in the factory location would connect to the aftermarket navigation, so the whole setup would appear more factory. Do you know if there is a way to purchase these connectors? I'd like to know before I take my z4 apart so it's not sitting disassembled while I wait for connectors to come in.
Certainly comprehensive excellent video - but for the less able types do you or someone else offer a fitting service?
If you are in the UK then I can do it, I've fitted a few now as this is my video so have quite a lot of experience with this unit.

Very good video thank you ! Is the Bluetooth streaming available ? Is the sound quality better than the OEM ? (I have the worst sound on my Z...)
Thank you, yes Bluetooth streaming is available, work original speaker. I don`t know what`s the issue of your Z4 sounds
As Milo has said it does have Bluetooth streaming available, it can also work with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, check out my other videos (as this is one of mine, check my channel) as I demonstrate some other options. As for the sound, if you have the base stereo, ie; only 6 speakers, even though you may have tweeter housings there may not be tweeters in them, and no Bluetooth or USB control, then you "could" upgrade the OEM headunit as well, send me a PM if you are interested and I could let you know what you need for it.
What about a rear parking camera?
You can add it as well and connect to the unit.
Hello
As i could see the stuff is nit available anymore by amazon, is it exist an other way to get it. I'm really impressed and thankfully by this system and also by this video which is very helpfully.

How does the system get power. Normally these type of system have -ve and +ve wires that need to be spliced onto factory wires.

excellent video. does the screen fold-down?

Thanks @@miloliu7102 behind the indoor light is a perfect place. Now it works perfect.
Installation was very easy. Remove only 2 Torx for the sun visor.
Click out the interior lighting control center.
And remove the panel for the A-pillar.
@@v.f.8737 I put my aftermarket GPS received in the location next to the factory GPS antenna (which is installed on all US Z4s) and it looks through the same blackened window in the center top of the windshield. Just remove the center dome light and you'll have plenty of space to put it. How did you remove your A-pillar? I need to route the GPS and DVR camera wires down there and into the inside of the right side dashboard.
on this video install you dont have a center speaker...….my car hase one I like to know if I disconnect the original cable completely and replace it with the modified wiring harness.....? thanks
It`s plug and play no need modified wiring harness. Center speaker can work

Milo, can this system play music using the Spotify app, a TF card or a USB flash-drive?
Yes, of course can play music and video from TF or USB. Spotify we not test yet. THX
Created file folders on TF card and loaded them up with my favorite artists, works great!!!
Transferred music from my home stereo Spotify playlist to my car, works great!!!
I have a minor issue that maybe you can advise me on. I have the infamous "SOS" error code that is momentarily noted on dash during engine startup that's followed by the triangle with exclamation point. The error code noted is CC-ID 299 aka SOS Call System Failure. Will disabling these two files (TCM_Alive_Monitor & TCM_ID_Monitor) in the Kombi resolve said issue? Or is there a better / easier resolution? With the exception of the annoying error messages everything seems to be working just fine.

Another comment: Why not disconnect the battery when doing this job?
According to BMW ITSA you need to recalibrate the steering angle sensor if you disconnect the battery. It's not worth the risk IMO although I'd like to know if others have had experience.
