I was in Oakland last week for training and I asked my coworkers if it's safe walking 2 blocks to get some roast duck for the family back in central valley and their response was a resounding NO. THao said crime is down? If crime is down, why are businesses leaving Oakland?

Apparently, crime does pay in California. When the law protects criminals and they are put back on the streets the same day this is what you get.
this isn't California, it's Oakland. As Houston is to Texas.
And the other 49 states thank California for that. Our criminals are moving there so they can operate without any consequences.

Businesses will walk out of Oakland regardless of who is the mayor as long as the citizens of Oakland do not condemn the Criminals and no consequences.

That is because the average citizen of Oakland is the one bringing awareness of the problems that occur every day. Look at where the Mayor lives for instance: Off of Skyline Blvd, up in the Hills.
So yes, Oakland is still beautiful in its landmarks and scenery, but unfortunately the leverage is in the hands of those citizens and elected officials who live afar from where a lot of the problems are happening, and it creates this, "problem, what problems..................there is nothing to see here", mindset.

He was shouting "Defund the Police!" then quickly called them to protect his property. To your point, do the Oakland Hills Elite care much at all about shops closing down on the Flatlands? My preference: Be honest, don't be a hypocrite talking a good game about the poor or crime when your policies are self-destructive for the city and preserve your job.

I know the hotel business very well. Everyone knows about the crimes and inflation but what most people don't know is many insurance carriers will stop (or have already stopped) doing business with hotels/motels in the state of California before the end of this year. In order for this Hilton to continue to break even at a minimum, it would have to raise ADR by a good amount and that will just fail miserable since not a lot of people even want to go to Oakland anymore. Expect more hotels to close in the next few months.

I used to enjoy visiting the city, but not anymore. Gotten far too dangerous down there.

I’ve stayed there, but I can understand the problem. Every time I gassed up the rental I would get hassled for money. Lazy bums have no shame. Now I just avoid Oakland airport.

It’s very sad. When I was a kid in the 1970s we would drive to Children’s Fairyland in Oakland. We went to A’s games where there were so many fans the upper deck was open. I went to Warrior, A’s, and Raider games in my 20s. Going to and from freeway to the coliseum and vice versa started getting sketchy. As a SWF going to games to meet up with friends I had my side mirror broken because I wouldn’t give someone cash or roll down my window. You’re stuck in traffic and can’t get away.
Now that I moved out of the Bay Area I rather fly into SFO or Sacramento than Oakland.
Without businesses where is Oakland going to get revenue? So many people on benefits there.
I don't know what the answer is. All I know is that the people won't be able to lift themselves out of their dire situation. They need someone to lead them and it's not going to be someone from the community. They will have to learn to trust an outsider to show them the way starting with parenting. If they can't do this, they will just have to live in the cesspool that they've created for themselves.
