To clarify for anyone living outside of the US, the average singular person in the us eats 2.2 billion grilled cheeses per year, or about 70 grilled cheeses per second
Because its sometimes a lot harder to make than it is to buy. Like I can make all sorts of cakes and things but I will buy a slice because its easier than making my own. Like its not just making it, you gotta buy the breads and have them at home which means you have to eat it all or throw it out etc. Just going and grabbing a grilled cheese from a restaurant means its one and done and you can have any number of kinds without figuring it all out yourself.
@@Meriliremthis is accurate I find as a home cook I but stuff for a single dish then am obligated to make more of it or find uses for the left over ingredients because nothing comes in perfect portions for what you want. There isn’t much variety in a grilled cheese when the recipe is just bread and cheese, it’s understandable why a lot of people add meat, even if it’s not a grilled cheese anymore
Truthfully, you can add all kinds of stuff to it, But it still has to be primarily cheese to be a grilled cheese. I like to cut up Ham into small cubes fry them up and throw them in my grilled cheese with a tiny bit of bacon bits.
By the way, if you add anything that isnt the basic ingredients (bread, cheese, butter/mayo) to a grilled cheese, its no longer a grilled cheese, its a melt.
They've just ruined a childhood food treat for the many children out there, next they're going to open a restaurant with gourmet peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or gourmet egg salad sandwiches. 😂😂😂😂
Did you make a grilled cheese? If yes then it doesn't really matter how much other stuff you add. If you didn't make it like a grilled cheese then no, even if it has grilled cheese.
“You people make me sick. A grilled cheese consists of only these following items. Cheese. Bread with spread (usually butter). This entire subreddit consist of "melts". Almost every "grilled cheese" sandwich i see on here has other items added to it.”
Oh also, best grilled cheese: butter and garlic salt on one side of bread slices. Toast in a skillet, both sides. Melt hand-shredded cheddar of choice, gruyere, and Parmigiano-Reggiano together and plop it on (make sure they are not pre shredded, the vorm starch will ruin the melt). Top with a basil leaf to feel gourmet
I honestly like making my own because I know how I like my grilled cheese. And restaurants just don't know how to make it the way I like. Although Five Guys was the closest and it was good.
Miss Cheezious. Man, I haven't heard that name in over a decade. I still remember when they started out as a food truck. Glad to see they're still alive and kicking.
My guy just showed me an incredible way yo enjoy Sonic's grilled cheese. Just add pickles. It's absolutely amazing. I thought he was crazy at first but man its so good!!
I have never had a grilled cheese from a food establishment I've liked. They are just one of the foods that so much better when made at home in my opinion.
I like Ms cheezious. Their food is good. Customer service is good too! I’d recommend dining in vs ordering to go because once the sandwhich sits for a while it gets a bit soggy.
Whenever I make grilled cheese, I often like to spice it up by putting cream cheese on the inner sides of the bread, American cheese, and I also like to add pickled jalapeño slices! It’s honestly so freaking good. And I especially like to use veggie cream cheese with it!
Those prices are actually really good. I worked at a place that did coffee and grilled cheeses the scumbag owners would charge 14 bucks for a sandwhich that takes me 2 minutes to make and uses about a dollar fifty in ingredients. And people would buy it!

Its the same reason y people go out to eat. For convenience… or its bcuz u have kids and all they like to eat is grilled chz
I feel like a grilled cheese stops being a grilled cheese when adding things like meat.
It becomes a melt when you add meat.
If it was like a small amount of chopped bacon I think it could still be a grilled cheese but that short rib sandwich he showed was definitely a melt
Exactly, cuz it does lol

Ham is an exception. Although it is then called a grilled ham and cheese.

So when does a grill cheese not become a grilled cheese? Cause adding meat to it sounds like a burger now or a sandwich
it's a melt sandwhich
It's always been a sandwich
Yes once you add meat it’s a panini - grilled sandwhich
Its a french dish called Croque Monsieur
Did you make a grilled cheese? If yes then it doesn't really matter how much other stuff you add. If you didn't make it like a grilled cheese then no, even if it has grilled cheese.
Missed out on the greatest opportunity to collab with Chef Tyler.
Grilled cheese is what it is, but with the meat it would be a melt not a grilled cheese
To be fair, it was called a Melt on the menu.

That’s what I was saying😂
A "short rib" grilled cheese is no longer a grilled cheese. It's just a short rib sandwich. The sanctify of the gril chez MUST be upheld.
