  • What do Harry Potter and the 2011 Honda Odyssey have in common? A lightning bolt. With a completely different look, Honda is after the family van buyer that needs one but doesn't necessarily want one. Tom Voelk looks at a top-of-the-line Touring Elite model in this expanded video review.

    I test drove a 2008 honda odyssey and my family has taken a trip for 9 hours to Ohio in a Dodge Caravan. The ride in the Caravan was literally so rough and bumpy I threw up in a bag, my back felt like a 90 year old when I got out and the leg room sucked. When I drove the Odyssey, it was nice and roomy, a smooth ride, and I didn't hear any road noise or have difficulty with space.

    Would love to upgrade my husband's 2007 to this one. He needed it for a business he used to own. Sold the biz 3 years ago, but won't get rid of the van! You have to love being able to shove 2 FULL size kayaks inside, close the back gate completely and head to the river. No hoisting them up on top and strapping them down. OK, we put the passenger front seat all the way down and I sit behind him for a few miles, but it's pretty dang impressive.

    I love my 2017 Honda Odyssey Touring Edition me and my husband love it shockingly we only had to replace the ignition coils once but after that still running like a champ! He is like riley should we sell this vehicle cause we’ve had one problem with it I’m like listen it had one problem nothing else is going to happen *knock on wood* he told me ok so we still have our 2017 Honda Odyssey Touring so we can take our friends and family on road trips! Love it❤

    0-60 in just under 9 seconds my ass, the honda odyssey 2011-2014 6 speed transmission can go from 0-60 in just under 7.5 seconds, its a fucking beast i own one, belive the hype.

    orange peel is referring to the paint's "texture", not it's "color". I work in the auto industry, so I think you should google the term "orange peel paint" before knocking my judgement.

    Just be prepared to spend the Big Bucks on the Front Brakes!
    Honda Odyssey Brakes have been plagued in the past due to being under-sized for this heavy car. Then they publicized the fact that they have now be "Re-Engineered".
    Well... 35,000 miles and three brake-jobs later (including two new sets of Rotors, and a bad pair of front struts),...
    I Beg To Differ!

    Oil changes are 7,500 miles or every year. They inspect several things, as well as top off fluids and inflate tires. They run about $26-$35.00. At 30,000 miles you have to replace the transmission filter and fluid. Your *FIRST* MAJOR scheduled maintenance is at 105,000 miles! The Cabin Air Filters are about $30.00. Honda also offers a Honda Care Honda Warranty that's BUMPER-BUMPER for 8yr/120k, with a $100/$50 or $0 deductible with a trip interruption benefit! Best I've EVER seen! Honda RULES!!!

    It's a shame that these "mini-vans" aren't available in Europe. The closest you may get in terms of size is the Volkswagen T5 starting at $34.000 with basic interior. Ridiculous. Fully loaded $61.000. Insane. With an average MPG of 21 this car does even better than the T5.

    While I have an Isuzu Oasis and a newer Honda Odyssey and love them both, I think a lot of the soccer mom stigma comes from the fact there are NO None NADA , bold paint choices for so called mini vans. It is a shame and yes I am an old vanner from the 70's.

      Mike Fifer I just bought my first van ! A used 2008 Honda Odyssey EXL and it's awesome! Love all the features, it drives great and it is going to be a great camper van next spring. I'm not sure that there is any stigma with vans any longer - and I'm not a Mom. No kids and still love the van! 👍

    "I have only seen minivans that can hold up to 23 tp rolls" Well obviously you havent tried the Dodge Grand Caravan (which is a great inexpensive van) or the Town and Country. This is a great review and the Odyssey is a great van, jeez cant decide between Grand Caravan, Sienna which has AWD, or the Odyssey but I just wish the Odyssey nav screen was a touch screen :(

    3.23 ...first time i saw that mentioned anywhere...hmmm never thought of that. would be good to watch anything like that..soccer games, fireworks, stars...
    i do have lots of gripes on my touring, and just found another one..no inside arm rests on the middle row seats...another cheap out..
    also i dont think the armrests on the fronts are leather..seem synthetic to me

    You misunderstood what I'm saying. I sold cars for 12 years, so I know in order for push button start to operate the vehicle, the key fob has to be in the car...however when the key fob battery is dying or is dead, it won't operate your push button start (at least on Nissan) so you have to plug the key fob in under the dash. I'd rather have Honda's old fashioned lazer cut and coded key. My mom has a Prius and freaks out every time get battery is dying since she only got one key. Its annoying!

    The middle row outboard seats only have one armrest each. No middle one to lean on with the middle seat out. Foot room is very tight for driver - no room to stretch your left leg out, which could be tiring on a long journey. No push button start on a $42,000 car. Why didn't Tom mention these flaws?

    I know this review was from 6 years back, but I was watching a Consumer Reports video on youtube. He showed a storage compartment on the floor behind front row seats. Did you notice anything like that when you reviewed this model? I am not sure I can copy and paste the CR video, but I will try. We are looking at buying a 2011,the least amount of problems. ruclips.net/video/1vzPWq1tvtw/видео.html
    Thanks a lot. Love your reviews. So thorough , no yammering on like other reviewers.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  7 лет назад +1

      Not the Honda. It's a feature that comes on the Chrysler Pacifica though. When the mid row seats aren't stowed into those cavities, they can be used as large storage bins. If you go with the eHybrid model those wells are filled with batteries that will take the van 30 miles or so on electric power. After they are depleted the gas engine kicks in, tuning the van into a standard hybrid. Hope that helps!

    • @lynnettepolson
      @lynnettepolson 7 лет назад +1

      That is what I thought to but the CR video shows him opening a bin on floor on Honda. I guess I will have to look at the 2011 Honda Odyssey in person. Thanks for your help.

    5:15 look at the orange peel in that paint! For a van this expensive, and a touring flagship model Honda at that, this is really unacceptable.

  • @MsHondaBabe
    @MsHondaBabe 12 лет назад +1

    I am sorry, but in all reality, push button start SUCKS! I've sold cars (mainly Honda's) for 11 years and I can't tell you how much I DESPISE push button start! I am GLAD Honda sticks to their laser cut and coded keys, because there more difficult to steal, they add an extra level of security for the vehicle and you won't have to worry about the battery on the key fob is dying and digging thru your purse just so you can plug it in somewhere under the dash.

    The "soccer mom" stigma crap is totally wrong nowadays. It's stuck around from the 90s and early 2ks. But come on anybody who has been to a kids sports game sees SUVs now. Those are the new "soccer mom" vehicles.
