  • GTO IRS Suspension Geometry explained at 2:00 discussion about its issues and modifications follows.
When the GTO starts to get traction rather than spin Excessive IRS Squat, Camber and Toe problems, Strength Issues/breakage are likely. What you can do to improve it? …some ideas explained after living through them all on street surface with a manual transmission. If you have any other insight about the 2004 2005 2006 GTO IRS drop them in the comments. What worked for you, what didn't.
Remember that different power levels, even different power adders, auto vs M6, gear ratios, and street vs track, will all require something different. Every car is different and needs what it needs. Thanks for watching.

That is a very valuable video, thank you.
I don’t have any drag racing suggestions but I have been through the diff and made many mistakes along the way.
My car has been on stock power, both automatic and now manual.
Car came with drag bags and pedders springs. I love them and wish I hadn’t moved on from them.
Since owning I have added a Truetrac, 3.90 gears, dss stubs, dss anti hop axles, harrop cover, gforce toe rods, gforce billet side adjusters, gforce/strange coilover kit and poly bushings bumper to bumper.
When I upgraded to gforce coilovers my wheel hop went from none to unbearable. I’ve tried adjusting, I’ve switched between 325, 375lb springs and nothing helps. Car can’t launch at all anymore.
So I’d recommend sticking with drag bags if you’re lucky enough to have them and either go solid diff or the 9” upgrade. When all said and done I’ve got over $8k wrapped up in my rear end and it’s still a tiny diff.
Thank you for your info on your experiences. For us Gto guys your kind of a big deal. Keep killing it.

I had bags with the Viking doubles at first. On the street type surface I was unloading the tire over bumps mid run because they ware so firm. Also I had very little rear movement and my 60’was garbage. On a nice flat prepped surface probably would have worked better. I ended up removing them after a couple outings and stuck with the Vikings.

@@TheGoat455 I only track my car once a year or so, just to see what she does. I’m more concerned with wheel hop.

I have the DSS kit w/ Strange 9” diff w/ carbon fiber driveshaft, 1400HP axles w/35 spline stubs, Pedders springs and QA1 double adjustables and BMR drag bags…. and I still get a little weirded out mentally because of the IRS. There is no drag strip in my state so I only roll race these days so I guess I’m ok at this point. Please keep posting videos because I still learn things from all of the GTO community 🙏

I'm pulling 1.58 60' times with my GTO. That was with all poly bushings, Koni shocks, G Force axles and inner stubs, 28" Radial Pro tire, stock gear ratio, Pedders Sport Ryder springs with drag bags, stock tie rods. I'm in process of doing a lot of custom upgrades to lower that. I'm sticking with the IRS for now to see what I can make it do.

A very well built Ford 8.8 is the way I'd go may be the most cost effective with plenty aftermarket support maybe a 1999-2004 Mustang GT or Explorer 8.8 junkyards should be full of them for a good price

They make aftermarket drag bags and ajustable track bars for the GTO. You can buy them and go to your local Suspension shop and have them install it

Also Hendrix said not to remove the sway bar up front because it rotates the front rear bias. To much.

I don’t run a front sway bar. I see arguments both ways. I prefer not having the weight there. I don’t notice any drivability issues.

You can not be serious, that has to be one of the most obnoxious, arrogant comments I have ever heard, so really what your saying is that you want Holden Australia to build and engineer a car for drag racing...🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂. Well over here in Australia we have corners that turn left and right and are much more interested in going around corners. If this is what your interested in doing with a car than maybe the dodge Hellcat is a better option for you
