only in the real history of Hook & Ladder 8 in 1904, it was still a Double Company building, as it had 2 bays, the cleaved in in half when they widened the street, which if you look that might actually be what's going on with the guy shoveling, but in 1904 the building would of been 2 bays not 1. but we know why they didn't show it as such. budget, why build 2 bay double company building for an establishing shot. the single bay refit that stands today didn't come about until 1913 after Varick Street was widened.
@@stevebragg4256 a. I get it, lowest common denominator, don't give them un-needed info, I'm just saying, as much as Dan Ackroyd loves that building, they could of added to the lore and shown it, or they could of bumped up the year from 1904 to just after the remodel say 1914. I'd even accept a throw away line in the novelization that in universe suggests it was intended to be a double company firehouse but maybe all the stone workers where working on that Highrise apartment we all know the one
I hate to be that guy, but that’s not accurate. With a Phonograph of that model, or any Edison model for that matter, the crank stays stationary during playback. From what I have found, this scene is from 1904, and those “Cygnet” type horns weren’t introduced by any talking machine company until 1909, when Edison first had held the patent.
The New York City Death Chill Mystery. 120 years ago, during a heatwave in the summer of 1904, firemen responded to a call about an incident. What they found truly shocked them: A room full of people frozen to death in the middle of July. The cause of this shocking event has remained a mystery...until now. 👻🚫
Fun Fact: The real Hook & Ladder Company 8 Building (what the GB HQ actually is IRL) wouldn't have looked like that in 1904. When it was built in 1903 - just the year before - it was twice as wide and had two vehicle doors instead of one. The building was essentially sliced in half in 1913 when Varick Street (on the right) was widened, as they didn't want to fully demolish the building. Although - there does seem to be some construction happening on Varrick Street at 0:13 - maybe potentially alluding to this?
Incidentally, they did get the Phonograph scene wrong. If this took place in 1904, than a “Cygnet” type horn like on that phonograph would not exist until 1909 when Edison first held a patent for it. A simple spun cone horn would have been true to 1904.
This is how you open a horror movie: slowly building the suspense, letting the audience make up their own mind as to how the result they see happened while at the same time not showing what happened to the firefighters. The less is more/what you don't see approach is horror at its most effective
Interestingly enough, there's a few factors that determine whether or not you can see your breath when it's cold. Humidity is one and I'm guessing that the air was dry in the room?
Maybe even a great grandmother, I don’t know how long she’s dead by the time of the movie. Perhaps it’s mentioned somewhere, but that would be well over 120 years old. I’m not saying it’s impossible, and perhaps the firemasters had the ability to live very long. However, that’s just speculation on my part. Edit: according to the wiki she passed away in 2024, and asuming she was already an adult, like late teen or young woman in her 20’s by 1904 that would make her over 140 or even 150 years old. Again, not impossible with all the supernatural stuff, in fact Vigo from GB 2 was practically immortal, but I think that would be a nice idea for a book or comic that would go into further detail.
Overall a fun movie, maybe a bit too long, seemed like they finally got to the climax, and it was a short-lived battle. I do wish that some of the toys they were trying to extract ghosts from would have come alive. Especially the doll, not many people like those, they always seem like they are possessed. Lol. But inside the chamber would’ve been funny if the doll would’ve started to talk, saying you can’t destroy me or I’m coming to get you, and then it’s eyes rolled back, after ghost was extracted, the eyes popped back to normal. They never asked me about that 😂😂
People seem to forget that it's Ghostbusters. They have the capabilities to stop otherworldly threats, the only reason why it takes them so long to do that, is because they deal with people like Dickless every day hindering them. It's been like that since movie 1.
anyone else wonder why one fireman had a fire hose with him even though there was no fire?, or those 2 firefighters just walked into the building with the other fireman?
im just saying it shouldve been a hook and ladder company and not an engine company and it the building totally shouldve been double the size since it was like that in 1904

I heard it dropped the ball. Too many plot points and characters. That's disappointing because the intro seemed really cool. Almost seemed Hellraiser like.
Personally I loved it and found it well paced, there is only like two new characters apart from Garraka of course, the movie didn't even feel like it was two hours long.
I’m on the same boat. Too many new characters and plot points that should’ve been fleshed out more. I really like the lore they built around Garraka. Had an almost Hellraiser vibe with the spherical prison Garraka was in. The intro felt very Ghostbusters-like, and it was awes to see how the paranormal world affects regular people like those firemen.
Honestly, the biggest problem it had, was too many cooks in the kitchen. Film was still very fun but will likely fall into the same vein as Ghostbusters 2 when that first came out. Hopefully when they make the sequel to Frozen Empire, they don't have so many characters in it
Maybe it’s just me, but I surprisingly kinda loved it. Because not only was I not a huge fan of the 2016 reboot, but I wasn’t so hot on Afterlife either like everybody else seemed to be. Frozen Empire, for me anyway, felt the most authentically Ghostbusters of all the movies since II. Though, again, I perhaps wouldn’t put it past myself to simply be going crazy. Lol

yes, because it is a new movie Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. my friend McKenna Grace is in this movie.
That’s how you open a movie, but certainly not a Ghostbusters movie. This is way too Hollywood, and doesn’t feel like a part of the franchise at all.
