Criminals used the violent demonstrations as cover for all sorts of crime, and the police couldn't be everywhere at once. Then the DAs stopped prosecuting many kinds of crime, now police are overwhelmed and impotent. The anti police movement is strong in Portland, police close to retirement quit early, and recruitment has failed to replace those retiring with the numbers or experience of those leaving. The state decriminalized drug use, now portland has an epic drug problem, and the crime it brings. It didn't "just happen" voting matters. The conditions now prevalent in the city of Portland; rampant crime, violence, and filth, are a direct result of the policies enacted by radical progressive elected politicians and ensconced bureaucrats running the various city bureaus. These people have radical political ideologies that are incompatible with the living conditions of a first world society and are at war with the middle class which they regard as discriminatory and a bastion of “white privilege. This is accomplished by ignoring and attacking the foundations and social norms that protect a civilized society. Laws and ordinances regulating various illegal behaviors such as illegal camping, dumping of garbage and bodily waste, stealing, drug use, random violence, etc., are no longer enforced and public sanitation is ignored. The result is the sharp decline in the standard of living now being experienced by the population of Portland. The mayor has demonstrated that this situation has advanced far past his ability to deal with, in fact his policies are directly responsible for the conditions now prevalent in Portland. The citizens of Portland should demand he resign or recall him from office. No one, not the people of Portland, the homeless, or anyone else is being helped by allowing this decline to continue. What’s happened to Portland and other cities with like minded leadership is not normal. There are basic foundations necessary for a successful, functioning community that are common to all cultures worldwide such as a regard for public safety, sanitation, and infrastructure. Without them people suffer, as is happening in Portland. The citizens of Portland must somehow come to the realization that they are electing the wrong people. Traditional Democrats would be responsive to citizens and not allow the current problems to fester and worsen. The current political leadership are not traditional democrats but instead are progressive radicals bent on destroying the middle class and tearing down the foundations of society, all under the banner of “diversity, equity, and inclusion”, with the resultant devastation to all, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or income. Good luck.

Man that was a whole lot of bias in that news report. So the guns are committing the crimes and not the person carrying them? The officer implied that an inanimate object is responsible for the number of shooting and not the living, breathing, and thinking individual that actually squeezed the trigger. Oh and on that subject they brought up the number of brown victims is excessively high in a city of majoritively white people. Are they implying the shooters are majoritively white? I feel she is leaving out that they are also majoritively brown as well. Santos got shot because he was suspected of being in a rival gang. So Portland gangs are mostly white? No these folks are victims of the Political Party they have chosen to support. The anti Police voting and soft on crime policing are exactly what they are getting the effects from. But please, stop pretending this is a white issue. Its not in Chicago either. Another political party stronghold that is anti gun and anti police as well.
