  • Super versatile, super tough, beautiful , great personalities: falconry and hunting with redtail hawks is well worth considering ! One thing I forgot to mention is that redtails with their big eyes make excellent lamping hawks too

    Redtails are excellent rabbit hawks. Most redtails here in the US are flown from the trees. I flew a tame hacked tiercel for 10 yrs and he caught multiple pheasants.

    Redtails were my first Birds, great birds. I now work with Harris's which I find more relaxing now that I am 66yrs old. I still have a Redtail that is 33 yrs old now and still as mad as ever. Lovely video on a Bird not used very much here in the Republic of Ireland.

      Hallo there, in Eire !
      Sounds like you've had a fine time with your birds!
      33 years old! These raptors seem to be real "forever companions" if you like...thanks for your story!

      Nice one and I agree , and indeed love flying Harris hawks for what they offer uniquely as well. Also can you stop sending your irish weather to england now?! We are sick of how green but wet it all is here ! Hehe

      @freebirdofreason1994 I don't hunt him anymore unless he spots something himself while we are out and he is following on on our couple of weekly walks. I would sooner him die of old age flying rather the lock him in his Mews because of is old age. I lost his female when she crashed in to a Hawthorn headge. I never spotted she got a thorn in her chest and died during the night from some vital organ being punctured. But being a Redtail they would go through a brick wall after prey kind of like a Sparrowhawk.

    Cheers Dave, another good one. I think I watched all of Ben's videos .reference the hares. I don't think there are any left in buckingham .they seem to be proper over hunted . I occasionally see the odd one if I'm lucky walking the fields.

    • @falconry.davesharpenatureboy
      @falconry.davesharpenatureboy  3 месяца назад

      Trouble is since the ban on coursing hares they have no value to land owners but travellers coursing illigally that drive on the land , bust of gates etc cause a financial loss to the estates , so they tend to shoot out large hare populations to reduce this risk : banning coursing made the hare numbers plummet in the U.K. ….

      @@falconry.davesharpenatureboy that's very interesting information Dave. I didn't realise this. A real shame ,as the hare is quite a beautiful creature really and can move like a bullet .certainly becoming a missing part of the the countryside. Alot more rural policing cars flying about though over the last couple of years.probably not enough, but your point makes sense thinking about it best wishes Dave👍

    Once had to extricate a female redtail from within a pallet, after she'd smashed into the side of it after a rabbit. The pallet was up on its end, lent against a farm shed, the rabbit was obviously on the floor at the base of it. She just folded up and thumped in. 😳😳

    thinking again to Ben, and you, and all of the 'good guys', if we can just spend 30 seconds of our time to repay the many *hours* of your time, and, let's not forget the *value that you bring* with your experience, expertise, and thoughtfulness!

    Loved the video Dave very interesting. I’ve always wondered if one ever escaped into the wild if it would breed with a common buzzard and then that would start a hybrid common/red tail buzzard sun species and if it could bred and be fertile?
    Love to know your thoughts. Keep up with the great videos

    • @falconry.davesharpenatureboy
      @falconry.davesharpenatureboy  3 месяца назад +2

      I’m sure it could hybridise with them and I’m sure plenty have been lost here , but certainly not become a thing so to speak . In captivity I don’t know if fertile hybrids would result ? Someone likely does ?
