  • Here I demonstrate step by step how to clear the VSC Trac/Trac Off Light in a Toyota 4Runner without a scan tool. This Light is caused by the OBDII scan malfunction or something causing the vehicles computer to simply have an error. Follow these instruction to eliminate the error.
    Check out these scan tools for helping to know what's wrong with your vehicle!
    Scan tool options: amzn.to/49yLkj7
    Toyota 4Runner Specific: amzn.to/48ykAO9

    I went to a dealership in Spokane, WA to have this same issue checked after a cheap set of chains destroyed the ABS wire harness, (Got that fixed at a non dealership garage, but they couldn't figure out the traction system error, I'm gonna show them your video). Dealership wanted to charge me $800 in parts and between $200 & 150 in labor.....
    Watched your video, made my tool, (almost the same as yours) and the problem was solved. Total cost 12 minutes 21 seconds watching your video, 15 inches of old 14/2 solid wire, another 90 seconds to go through the procedure, 15 minutes cursing the dealership under my breath.........
    Thanks much for putting this out there for us! You have probably saved so many people so much money and time!

    Thanks so much for this post and video. I had this annoying problem in my 2003 4Runner. Initially the VSC TRAC and Service Engine Check light remained on. After diagnosing with an ODB reader, we determined I had a bad Oxygen sensor which we swapped out. After the swap, the check engine light went out, but the VSC TRAC lights remained on. I used this video to remove the error and it worked like a charm. This save me about $500 in maintenance had I taken it to the dealer.

    I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this very instructive video! I had my 2003 4Runner parked on a slight hill and the battery slowly went dead because I left a door open and the radio on with the key in the wrong position (on purpose while doing some work outdoors). The alarm started going off and kept going constantly with the ignition on. In addition, my Brake, VSC Trac, Trac Off and ABS lights were on. Worst of all, my brakes would barely stop the vehicle when moving forward. I charged the battery fully, checked all fuses and made sure the brake fluid was at the right level. All looked good but I still had the alarm and the dash lights on. I was thinking I’d have to get it towed to a mechanic because of it stopping improperly and I didn’t feel safe. I started looking online and I ran across one guy with a similar sounding problem and the same vehicle... a mechanic charged the poor guy $3000 to replace a module that did not resolve his problem! Yikes! After hearing that I started freaking out, picturing costs spiraling out of control. Then I ran across your video and watched it. Your explanation was straight forward but I watched it about 3 times to make sure I got it right. I followed the steps as described and it worked out beautifully! No lights or alarm and the brakes are functioning perfectly again. Whew! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

After doing that the VSC/TCS lights were on and brakes the same. Did this, lights off and brakes seem a lot better. Before pedal was almost to floor, now I get pressure much higher up. I think some other problems going on but way better feel than before.

    Happy Saint Patty's to you!
    These darn lights have been on for nearly a year, watched your video and drank some Guinness and it's a done deal. I didn't realize how much they were bugging me. It's like popping a zit. So good.
    Let me articulate it better: THANK YOU 4runner brother. I'll drink one for you tonight.

      All you got to do is replace your gas cap

      Henry Duke hope that’s what my problem is. I tried this and it worked but the lights came right back on a few seconds after starting the engine again. Check engine light is also on and it gives a code P0420.

    Definitely just helped me right now. Think my obd scanner tripped the ecu. I run the torque app and usually power it up before I start driving but yesterday, I powered it up while I was driving and noticed the vsc and abs lights going off. Read somewhere it could be the obd scanner so I removed it (it's a bluetooth version) and then the abs light went away with only solid VSC lights. Did what you explained in the video and now it's gone. Huge help! Thanks

      Chris Bartolo, yes the obd scanners can trip the code due to a software change in some models. This is a quick easy fix! Glad to hear of your success

    Awesome! Worked on first try. If you use a solid copper wire then you do not need to add a paperclip segment to the wire ends.

    Dude, thank you so much. Worked perfectly. I actually found a couple short sections of solid copper wire that probably came with a smart thermostat I installed a couple years ago, and didn’t need the paper clip tips. Awesome video, thanks for sharing!

    I don’t typically post comments but this worked on my ‘04. I replaced the o2 sensor and this light was ok afterwards and after making the same wire set up he has it worked the second try (first try was user error)

    Got a new scan tool and it did this. Unfortunately all of the advanced programming is for a BMW.

      I got a question for you.....the lights i had on were initially "abs, vsc, and vsc Trac off"...i took my car to a shop for this. They told me I had a bad wheel sensor, and that if I replaced the sensor , it will fix the all the issues turning those lights on.... so i said ok if it will fix all that, lets go ahead and do it.. well I picked my car up after them doing the work and the lights were off but later that evening they all came back

    • @dsiino925
      @dsiino925 6 лет назад +1

      I took the car back, they then told me a new different code saying the yaw sensor was bad.....

    • @dsiino925
      @dsiino925 6 лет назад +1

      After they said the yaw sensor was bad was when I looked more into those alarm lights and found your video.
      . I guess my question is, do you think I could've cleared these abs, vsc, and Trac off lights without bothering with wheel sensor... or do you think the wheels sensor was in some way related with the abs and traction control system??

    • @bullseyenate231
      @bullseyenate231  6 лет назад +2

      d siino, from my experience and knowledge of the traction control system, when the ABS light is on in addition to the VSC Trac Light normally there is a fault with the traction control system whether it be a sensor or whatever. So I would say you probably did have a faulty sensor and they probably replaced it and that’s why this action of “zero point calibration” worked after the sensor was replaced. Also I’m not sure what year your car is but 2003-2004 the OBD operated on a different system. In 2005 when toyota changed the system the code can actually be triggered just by a scan tool with an operating system different from the original One intended for the vehicle. However, this should be common knowledge amongst certified auto technicians but unfortunately it’s not always. Often time if the code is not cleared before unplugging the scan tool the light will come on a little later on but it is simply a computer malfunction not an actual problem with the VSC traction Control System.
