  • The ZERO point calibration is often lost on 2004 toyota vehicles. a dead battery can cause this or even plugging into the data link connector with a scantool that performs auto ID. This will illuminate the VSC Trac light and VSC off light. Let's reset it with the ThinkDiag 2 from ThinkCar.

Do those capabilities include reading transmission fluid temperature on these 2003-2009 4Runners, Sequoias, etc?

Ok so how many times do you see it come back in after reading and relearning. Iv done mine with the old paper clip hack and it’s always cleared the codes for maybe a month or sometimes it would last a trip to town and come back on just curious if you have cleared and relearning with this and have still had the lights come back on after awhile?

I'm looking for a scan tool for my 03 4runner. Will this one cause the VSC scan tool issue? Obviously it fixes it fairly easily, but will I have to perform this procedure every time I use this scan tool for something else? Any other scan tools recommendations for 03 4runner? Thank you for the video.

Does the ThinkDiag2 read transmission fluid temperature? (for checking fluid level after service / fluid & filter change)

You can check to see if it has the function but it’s hard to say. Many code readers do not have the function for resetting zero point calibration.

I bought this to clear the codes on my 2005 4runner sport like in the video but it didn’t work. When I hit test mode nothing happens. Can’t get the lights to start blinking. Codes for front left wheel speed sensor and abs system code on. All lights turned on when I removed the xreas system and replaced with Tacoma takeoffs with spacers. Also noticed truck won’t go into 4lo anymore. If anyone can help please let me know

You will probably have to fix the other issues before relearning. Any code in the abs module will cause those lights to stay on

No one talks about why and the cause of the light being on??
    What is causing the issue?
Turning the light off only masks the issue

    • @ThePracticalMechanic

These codes commonly pop up when technicians scan for codes. It’s a communication issue with the scan tools. The scan tool attempts to automatically communicate with the vehicle using as many methods available. One of those communication protocols clears the zero point data on accident. We no longer perform prescans on 2003-2005 Toyotas unless the customer is having an issue or one of the lights are illuminate.

@ThePracticalMechanic gotcha. I blew a tire awhile back and my abs and vsc trac light have been on. I was told one of wheel speed sensors was bad. I'm assuming this could be the issue? Also need new rotors

I don’t think so. I just downloaded the app from the App Store. I never got billed for anything so I’m thinking it was included. No where in my app does it mention a pro setting.

Seems like a great idea to have a couple of these lying around. I have several older Toyotas in my personal fleet that this tool wont help me with but Scotty told me Toyotas will never break down so I'm not worried.😅
