I'm happy you were able to get the head unit installed. Sorry about the back up camera and I don't know of any other guides besides the one I've posted. What exactly is not working tho?
Is that radio a single CD player? I wonder if there was a version with a multi disc changer. I still like my CDs and the 6 disc changer my 08 4runner has. Adding the Bluetooth and camera ability would be sweet.
Hi Paul, you have the best presentation. I've performed the install using your instructions and everything you covered works excellently. What I can't get to work is AUX - I plugged in the existing 12pin CN702 connector, but the aux plug in center console does nothing. I would like to add a USB which should also connect through that CN702. I bought a AUX/USB unit with CN702 plug which is wired to a little box with AUX/USB inputs, but it did not work. Any advise on wiring AUX/USB into that CN702 12 pin? Thanks!!
Hey Jeff, I've also purchased USB connector but never got around to connecting it. From what I understood it's plug and play. I'm planning to connect it later and do a video on it but I'm short on time now so can't really help at the moment. Might be a silly things to mention but make sure head unit is set to AUX option
I installed Pioneer AVIC 8200 in my 2004 4Runner but the radio is junk. Keeps dropping connection with my iPhone. Will replace it with the OEM version. Great video. Just checked, and the headunit is not available.

Thanks for the great tutorial. What functionalites does that touch screen head unit offer? Presumably no android auto or car play. You mentioned it can facilitate a back up camera.
Hello, this unit gives you bluetooth capabilities so you can listen to music and answer calls. No android or apple car play tho and yes you can install backup camera too. The main reason I did this conversion is to have bluetooth ability and to retain OEM look
Hey Paul, Greetings from Chicago. Your video is very informative and so detailed. I’m heading towards installing on my 4th Gen ‘07T4R with JBL synthesis. Will this head unit fit on 1st Gen ‘07 Sequoia? Thanks.
Hey Francisco, I believe I've seen some people do it on Sequaias but I haven't done enough research to tell you for sure. Sorry I can't be of better help
Hi, I just did the conversion and thanks to your video this went very smoothly. Even the backlight works great. Thanks for the great video and in particular the shopping list. I was hopeful the fader would keep its functionality, but it sem sto only shift the deeper sounds from to to back. How does the fader work for you?
@@tronixster Hi, no wiring mixed up Metra says that the balance and fader needs to be set to center before the factory radio was removed. Also, the turn volume should be up 3/4 before shutting off the vehicle WITHOUT shutting off the radio prior. I did that, but no difference, so will try a replacement unit. Interestingly, on Amazon there are quite mixed reviews on whether the fader works or not. Curious what makes the difference....
Hello below is the model of the head unit and good luck with the install. Btw similar Scion head unit will work exactly the same way. OEM Headunit Part #: PT546-52150
Nice video!, you make it look very simple, do you think the 2013-2015 Scion Radio Navigation Receiver Touch Screen OEM would work with the same procedure, the unit look identical. and they are cheaper, let me knoe
Hello! Great informational video. Your video is for installing a used unit that luckily included the pigtail pug. If I was to purchase a new radio I’d need to purchase the pigtail plug you mentioned @ around 18:18 minutes was already included with your purchase from LKQ WHEN because they cut off the wires?
Yes, when I bought the head unit from LKQ they left all the original plugs in there and they usually do that. If you won't have it in your case I'm sure you can go to pick-n-pull and just cut one of some Toyota Yaris or any car audio place would be able to point you into the right direction.
@Paul Longer As I had tje same issue buying a new head unit I found this plug for the rear speaker. You can put it in your video descriptions so you can help more people. Thanks for your video.
I purchased a new radio and went to the junk yard and cut off the plug from several Toyotas to make sure I had got the right one, I think I ended up getting one off of a late model scion.
Hi, I just got myself a 2005 4Runner Limited with the OEM touchscreen. I'm looking at upgrading to something more modern. I was looking at the Sony XAV-AX5600 7-Inch Multimedia Receiver with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and HDMI Video. Do I need to get all those wiring harnesses? It's not as easy as just plug and play from the OEM into the new one?
If you get aftermarket head unit it will come with all the wiring harnesses and wiring diagrams. All the wires are color coded so it should be fairly simple.
Hi Paul, i just recently bought a 2008 4runner, and Im trying to upgrade the head unit, found your video very helpful. Thank you very much. But I as I was looking for the PT546-52150, they dont have it anymore. Only the PT546-00140 are available. Will it work? and how can I add a subwoofer to it? Which wire do I use for RCA signal? Do you have any video showing that step? Much appreciate.
Praise God you found this video helpful and really appreciate the support. Yes PT546-00140 part will work perfectly fine, it will just say Scion instead of Toyota but it's identical part. As far as subwoofer goes you can draw sound from your rear speakers or you should have OEM subwoofer installed in the trunk area on passenger side if you have JBL system so you could tap into that. I haven't done much research on subwoofer hookup so I don't have much details.
I read a few comments to see if anyone had the question I had but didn't see it.. My question is, I have a 2007 and was wondering if you know whether or not all the steps and parts still apply? Also, that head unit is almost impossible to find but one that looks just like it for Scion is available, PT546-00140, do know if it will work?
Hey bro You just too good at what you do Is there any you put this together and mail it to me..I think I can do the normal installation if all the harness are done. Pls let me know and how much the cost will be. Thank you
Hey, just give them a call. And ask them for part number: PT546-52150. This is the part number for that specific head unit. Use number to call: (360) 260-8400
Thanks for rhis video. I just bought a used 2008 4Runner, and Im planning on updating my radio (CD Changer wont work, neither rear speakers). So thanks for the heads up on the Yaris option. Did you install the USB? I cant find that video. I want to have the USB option to play music from a Memory Stick if I dont wanna connect my phone. Again, Thanks for your help!!! Blessings.
I haven’t made any videos about USB port installation but it’s very straight forward and you’ll just need to plug into the back of your head unit and run it out from underneath your dash. Here’s the cable you’ll need: amzn.to/3jIMDUN
Yaris head unit does not have a navigation but dealer can install it for around $500 so no go for me and it doesn't have Carplay or Android auto. This was just to replace my OEM Toyota head unit with another OEM Toyota that has bluetooth and touchscreen.
I think the 2 antenna ports delineate AM and FM. These two antennas are electrically very different. I think a better solution is to buy 2 harnesses and pull the coax pin out of one and install in the other coax connector head. then connect the various antenna feedlines to the correlating port.
This is a common misconception and actually isn't the case. From this post: www.toyota-4runner.org/611260-post22.html "The antenna issue has been discussed quite a bit. The 4Runner has a diversity antenna system - which as best I can tell means that there are two antennas in the vehicle and the factory head unit picked which one had the best signal. I do know that the antenna bundle from the factory harness has two antennas connections (a standard and a smaller one) and a 3rd cord that folks have said is power for an antenna booster. Going to the aftermarket head unit there are lots of install options available: 1) Get Y-cable connectors to feed both antenna signals into the single antenna input on the Pioneer headunit 2) Provide power to the antenna booster and just plug in the larger (standard) antenna connector" So I think Paul did it right.
Great vid, thank you for posting! I have a question: since this head unit's impedance is 4ohms, I'd like to bypass the factory amplifier to avoid any problems in the future (the factory system is 2ohms) plus I will change the speakers to 4 ohm 2 way speakers. Can you tell me how to bypass the amp? Thank you!
Mic is optional. I installed mic so I can talk to on the phone when my phone is connected to the head unit cuz originally my car didn't come with bluetooth or mic.
yeah mine is not working either. I guess the white wire that was left un-spliced in "little pigtail" 6 pin harness is for backlighting illumination. I'll have to take everything apart to fix it but I had no time to do it yet.
OH, I have another question... The camera that plugs into the Yaris head unit is a bit overpriced so I was wondering if you knew how to connect an aftermarket rear view camera to the unit to make it work (without the factory plug)

Great job on the video, I'm going to install a 2013 Pioneer Scion touch screen stereo in my 2009 scion XD and thought it was a plug and go drove me crazy until I just found out about that special harness i had to get it from eBay cost me Eighty five dollars.im hoping I have the same luck as you. By the way that unit looks awesome .
Praise God you found this video helpful. Good luck on the install.
Well done; professional grade presentation.
Praise God you liked it
Great video! Planning to something similar on 2003 4runner.
Good luck!
Me too!!!
Just finished my 03. Only issue I’m having is the rear speakers since that parts slightly unclear which wires go to what (not color coordinated), should be an easy fix though just need to cross some wires.
Great video thanks for it. I’m just buying all to do it to my 4th gen one.
It’s a fun project. It’s so satisfying ones it’s all done
Great job if I would change the radio on my wife car n if she wants to keep it original definitely I will follow ur steps.. thanks!!!
Yeah man I love it. ORIGINAL LOOK
Thanks a lot Brotha 🤙🏽. Just did mine thanks to you.
Praise God. I'm glad I was able to help.
hello i have a 2008 4runner and im trying to upgrade to the oem Toyota head unit but its to much money so instead im going with a SCION PT546-00140-BU which looks exactly the same and im having a hard time figuring out what harnesses and connectors I need. i dont have the JBL speakers. and im also just making sure that the SCION PT546-00140-BU will fit and work the same as the oem toyota one that you show in the video. could you please help me?
Great video! Got the same radio and works nice! I did get the backup camera components that you linked down below but the installation link is a dead end. Running into a bit of trouble getting the camera to work and was wondering if you have another installation guide i could reference?
I'm happy you were able to get the head unit installed. Sorry about the back up camera and I don't know of any other guides besides the one I've posted. What exactly is not working tho?
Wow that microphone is 153.10 CND on Amazon . If you add the antenna adapters is 186.81 CND That's kind a deterrent for starting the project 😊
I got mine from the dealer for about $40 USD. I searched the internet for pricing from dealer and then had them price match.
@@JerrySpringersKid Found the microphone for about $9 CND on Alliexpress as well (it comes with 28 pins plug connection)
Yeah please don't pay $153.10 just go to dealer and get one
I just did the install. I have power and steering wheel controls, but I don’t have any sound coming out.
Try adjusting levels on Metra TYTO-01 JBL Amplifier Interface Harness amzn.to/3EmS1Vs
Fantastic video! Just what I was looking for, Thanks!
Praise God you found this video helpful and good luck on the install.
I installed Pioneer AVIC 8200 in my 2004 4Runner but the radio is junk. Keeps dropping connection with my iPhone. Will replace it with the OEM version. Great video.
Just checked, and the headunit is not available.
I would recommend calling LKQ directly and asking them for unit. It will get shipped right to your house
Wow. You’re pretty awesome. Loved this tutorial. Thanks.
Praise God I was able to help.
Can you make a video of installing the backup cam? 😂😅
Bro so many people have been asking me so I’m planning to do it 2-4 months for sure, Lord willing. I’m currently working on releasing few videos about remote start systems and then I’ll be free
Glory to Jesus Christ!!
Thank you for an amazing video. I do have one question: I will be doing this on a non-JBL 4Runner. Will I need the pigtail in the description? If I do, will I need to do any splicing or is it plug & play?
Hey John, if you have non-JBL system you won't have to do any splicing and you won't need a pigtail either. And good luck on the conversion.
@@tronixster Thanks for the quick reply, Paul! So I would just swap the connections from the current head unit into the new one ? I'm using the same one as you.
Thank you so much for all the effort put into this video. Will this unit connect to and work with both Android and Apple phones? Thanks again
Praise God you found this video helpful and yes this unit will work with both Android & Apple phones.
theres 3 radio options. You forget about the TomTom units on the Urban Runner/Trail packages.
Oh wow. Didn't know that was a thing. Thanks for bringing it up.
Well Done. Now to find a Yaris Radio.
have fun and good luck!
Just finished my install. Works GREAT! Just as you said. Now I want to install a mic. Can you tell us the part number that you used and where you ordered it? I don't think you mentioned it in your video. Thank you so much!
The link is in my description actually. But here it is:

@@tronixster Thank you so much!
@@tronixster Hi Paul great video. I just receive a new head unit for just $303.00 I’m very happy. I’m looking now for that cable that you mentioned it the one came with your head unit but you don’t give descriptions of it. I’ll fine it but for future reference it will be good to check out n that plug code so like me if anybody else buy it new we can also look for that one. Nice S Work we are cyclist here at home too 😂
Thanks for the great tutorial.
Worked as planned! Thanks for the vid!
Glad it helped!
Great Video can you show how to do this for a non-JBL car? Also show how to do the back up cam?
I'm planning to do a backup camera at the end of the spring!
Thank you for this! I think JBL splicing part will be the most time consuming for me. Darn JBL synth lol.
good luck to you brotha. You gonna love it ones it's done
Great video! Detailed and to the point with tips.
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Paul,
Greetings from Chicago.
Hey, my fader works perfect front/back & left/right, no issues at all. I wonder if some of the wiring got mixed up.
Curious what makes the difference....
thank you for making this video man!!
My pleasure and praise God
Hi what model of head unit is this, I have a 2005 4 runner I would like install it, great video
Hey man thank you for your support and yes 2013-2015 Scion head unit will work exactly the same. Good luck and God bless you
I love how this adds Sirius/Xm and Bluetooth. Do you find the Bluetooth is pretty quick to link to your phone?
Yes bluetooth links almost immediately to my phone and I've only had few drops where I actually had to reconnect my phone.
LKQ online gives me a completely different looking head unit for a 2015 Yaris..
Hey Steff, don't pay attention to the image online. Make sure it's the right part number because images may be generic or not updated.
@@tronixster yea I figured that out after seeing the same pic for a few different car models.
Awesome vid bro, but that antenna adapter says it won’t fit my 09 4Runner on Amazon!?? Says it’s for a GM
Praise God you found this video helpful. Yeah it says that but it will fit 2009 4Runner.
@@tronixster do you know if I can simply source a new one online?
Thanks Paul, i bought the Scion unit. I don’t have JBL system. And I’ll draw sounds from rear speakers for the sub. Thank you very much.
Great video Keep up the great content !
Thanks, will do! May God bless you
This is awesome, thanks for sharing! Does it retain the backup camera feature too?
Praise God you found this video helpful and yes it does retain backup camera feature.
@@tronixster Thank you for the quick reply!
Steps should be identical for 2007 model and yes Scion head unit will for sure.
bought everything on video and took it to get it professionally done and he couldnt get backup camera to work :(
Bro no way! I hope there's a way to make it work
Hey bro
You just too good at what you do
Is there any you put this together and mail it to me..I think I can do the normal installation if all the harness are done.
Pls let me know and how much the cost will be.
Thank you
I can possibly do this for you. Give me a little bit of time and I'll get back to you.
Email me here with all the details: bulletproofisix@gmail.com
That is very smart, but I couldn’t find any exact same head unit🥲the LKQ all images are the same, I’m confused
Hey, just give them a call. And ask them for part number: PT546-52150. This is the part number for that specific head unit.
Use number to call: (360) 260-8400
Do all the lights for the buttons on your radio work? Mine don’t. The rest of the system works o.k. It seems like.
Curious if anyone has used an alternative to the PT546-52150? They're tough to track down. Great video, btw.
Scion has exactly the same unit but it says "Scion" on the front instead of "Toyota"
@George Zamora Did you purchase yours from there? I found it, just surprised it’s 277$. Super cheap compared to 900$.
@George Zamora are you installing in a 4th gen 4Runner?
@@georgezamora7016I just bought mine from the same place! Thanks. Can I buy a satellite antenna for the same car and connect to this radio?
Great video, thanks, does the Yaris radio have nav in it, or allow you to do Carplay or Android Auto off of it?
Yaris head unit does not have a navigation but dealer can install it for around $500 so no go for me and it doesn't have Carplay or Android auto. This was just to replace my OEM Toyota head unit with another OEM Toyota that has bluetooth and touchscreen.
Hi Paul can you please help me all the harness for 2004 4 runner.Thanjs
What exactly do yo need help with?
Awesome job on the install!!! Question is would you know if this Yaris head unit has CarPlay and built in Nav?
No it doesn't have CarPlay but it does have option for navigation but software is very expensive.

@@Thewierdosful ok
Amazing video brother.
Question: did you get aux wired as well?
No I did not. But if you car has one it will work with new setup.
I think the 2 antenna ports delineate AM and FM. These two antennas are electrically very different. I think a better solution is to buy 2 harnesses and pull the coax pin out of one and install in the other coax connector head. then connect the various antenna feedlines to the correlating port.
Thanks for the tip brotha
@@tronixster Does both AM and FM work good the way you connect it?
This is a common misconception and actually isn't the case. From this post: www.toyota-4runner.org/611260-post22.html
"The antenna issue has been discussed quite a bit.
Going to the aftermarket head unit there are lots of install options available:
1) Get Y-cable connectors to feed both antenna signals into the single antenna input on the Pioneer headunit
2) Provide power to the antenna booster and just plug in the larger (standard) antenna connector"
So I think Paul did it right.
@@r.t.7925 Yes it does. I just did it today.
I have non jdl system on my 2007 4runner…do i need both harness adapter from toyota dealer? (CH and AD)
Yes, both of them. Super easy though, no splicing. You don’t need the pigtail (Red Wolf) item.
Yup this is correct
Can you do this without the tyto-01 ? I've heard they fail periodically
you need the tyto-1 it won't work without it. So far I had zero issues
Thank you!
Hey Boris, I haven't done any research on that so it's hard for me to tell you anything right now. But I'm sure there's a way of doing it.
So umm what’s the mic for I’m confused is it something we need or is it optional
Mic is optional. I installed mic so I can talk to on the phone when my phone is connected to the head unit cuz originally my car didn't come with bluetooth or mic.
.hello friend your video was very useful it helped me a lot to install to update my stereo ,,,,, but the button lights do not turn on
yeah mine is not working either. I guess the white wire that was left un-spliced in "little pigtail" 6 pin harness is for backlighting illumination. I'll have to take everything apart to fix it but I had no time to do it yet.
okay thanks for answering me, your video is very helpful thanks 🙏
OH, I have another question... The camera that plugs into the Yaris head unit is a bit overpriced so I was wondering if you knew how to connect an aftermarket rear view camera to the unit to make it work (without the factory plug)

Not yet brotha. Didn't find time for this project yet.
Hi Paul. Great video. I followed your instructions and tried to do the same thing with my 06 4Runner. I have the radio installed. Everything but the Bluetooth works. When I navigate to the Bluetooth mode there is no connect button. Any ideas?
I wouldn’t be able to answer this question but my assumption would be that it’s a faulty head unit or could be anything else
So I’ve only got one black plug that goes into the amplifier box. I’ve got the factory JBl RDS stereo system in my truck. Any ideas? Was the AXXESS TYTO-01 suppose to come with two harnesses? Mine only came with one harness with a black plug. Thanks!
