Leave a comment for me to let me know, so I can bring them to you. I want Budget Lawns to be your go-to place for all your answers. When I was getting started in lawn care, it drove me nuts to always have to go on a wild goose chase for answers to simple questions. That ends here on Budget Lawns.
Budget Lawns as on the label they are saying for best results spray when temp is 45 and in your video you are saying apply when it’s really hot ? Please advice
Depends on your grass type. I have a warm season grass and can spray when hotter. If you have a cool season grass it likely needs to follow the label. It may take more than one application. I did 2.
Budget Lawns I’m newbie in this lawn care and I don’t know the type of my lawn is it .if I show you my grass pic can you please tell me which type of grass it is ?
I have St Augustine grass... the orange cap weed stop liquid says no for St. Augustine grass.... the yellow cap weed stop says no to bitter blue variety of St. Augustine grass.. I'm having a hard time figuring out ID exactly what I got, it's warm season southern St Augustine with some grass other mixed in.. label also says not to apply when air temps are 85 degrees and above or risk damage to the grass turf..... so for July-Sept in E. Tx it's a no-go anyway even if it was for my grass.... according to the instructions this is a spring and fall application product.... I follow the instructions.....
How long after applying this weed kilker can I seed my lawn? My lawn looks horrible and I need to get it under control this year. I also need to fertilize my yard. Any suggestions when to do this during all of this?
Hey there, my lawn has so many weeds that i forgot which type of grass i have... This video helped me realize i bought the wrong type of weed killer.. i am on my way to change the bag. Thanks for the video
After watching your video, I went out and purchased this product. It works. The dandelions are dying daily. I would definitely recommend this product. Thanks for the video. New sub here.
Love it! I have definitely been guilty of not reading labels in the past. Wish you were around back then to tell me how I was supposed to use products like this. 👍🏼 great info!
Thanks man! Appreciate that! Hopefully this will help folks who were in that spot you and I were in years ago. Still lots to learn, but we're getting ahead of the curve I'd like to think! 👊
Thank you so much for this video. I'm having to take care of my yard for the first time and am clueless with how to conquer these weeds. The stuff that caused cancer in some people did not work for me. So, here goes with your tips, hopefully things will turn around for the better.
You're very welcome. Happy I could help. I've been in your shoes before. Don't sweat it. I've got lots more basic tips coming soon. Hope you'll join us for more! Thanks so much.
John here just got some call the 1 800 number and asked about how much in a 1gal. Sprayer they asked what type of grass did I have which ken. Blue grass and fecue 31 about a min later she get back phone said 6.4 oz. per gal of water. Having high hopes that why I look you up to see just what and how your using it. Super thanks got lots of rain now but just waiting like you said wait it out for best results. May your green grass be green.
Just used the spray today on my crabgrass. Hoping for good results here in WI. No rain in the forecast for 5 days and temps will be in the 70's. Thanks for the video!
Awesome. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. Hope it works out for ya. Good news is, with the cold weather coming, it'll die off soon! Thanks again.
By the way, I used it and it worked just as you said. Wish I could send you pictures of my lawn that was covered with weeds but is now a home owners dream lawn
I just moved into a house (Russellville Ar) and I need help identifying my grass. I'm watching all your videos as I intend to make this lawn beautiful. I'm new to all this lawn stuff. Any help is appreciated, as I am researching to the best of my abilities.
Very cool. That’s my hometown. Born and raised there till moving away for college. I’m sure you’ve got bermuda. Maybe zoysia. Look into those two first and see if they look like your lawn. Congrats on the house. Happy to help if I can. Thanks for watching.
Great info. I worked in lawn care for 20 years. Chemicals and treatments have come a long way. Years ago there were very few options for homeowners, had to be licensed to get the most effective chemicals. I remember when Drive (Quinclorac) came out, it was the best thing since sliced bread. The 1st time there was an effective post emergent crabgrass killer that wouldn't kill fescue.
Great information. I have Bermuda. My method is hitting the yard once my daily low temps are around 50 degrees with a per-emergent (granular). That creates a good barrier when watered in. Once my yard is about 70-80% out of dormancy, I mow the lawn on day one, the next day (day two) I hit with the Spectracide through a hose-end sprayer and lastly, the third day I spot spray POA with Image. I literally don't get weeds.
Thank you. Solid solid plan there. Feels good when you figure out what works and stick to it. No weeds feels even better. Nice job. Appreciate ya watching and your feedback!
Good video man. As a semi-hobbyist out here in Phoenix, AZ I have to agree that the Spectracide provides the most bang for the buck. There are some weeds here that I need a specialized product to take care of the problem but I would say that Spectracide wipes out 97% of my issues.
Thank you. I’m a teacher on spring break right now so all is good. Just like doing RUclips for fun, meeting new people and helping folks if I can. Hope you and yours are doing well too!
Hi, thanks for this thorough video! I just broadcast sprayed my yard with the Weed Stop for Lawns + Crabgrass Killer. Mowed about a week ago, sprayed on my hot, dry lawn. My question to you is how often should I be doing this post-emergent? Is it once a season? Every month until the weeds die? The bottle doesn't have clear instructions, only that you shouldn't exceed .57 lbs per year, which isn't helpful, HA! Thanks in advance!
You're welcome. Good question. My rule of thumb is only 2 broadcast treatments a season. The second one 2 weeks after the first if there are still a lot of weeds on the lawn. After that, you can just spot spray the bad areas if there are any left. In my experience, I've never needed to do more than 2, because I've always had such good results with this. I hope this helps ya a little more. Thanks so much for watching. I appreciate ya!
Thanks for the good info, just picked up a bag of the granules for my front yard. We will see what happens. Temps here are 95-98 I lightly watered yesterday morning and put the granules down. Going to be rain free next couple of days! 🤞
Be sure to choose the right one for your st. Augustine. Thanks for watching. Don't Pick the Wrong Weed Killer or You Might Regret It // How To Kill Weeds 3 Ways With Spectracide ruclips.net/video/amqKswWbQCM/видео.html
Instruction, table-3, indicates 8 oz. per 3 gal. of water to treat 1250 square foot of lawn. It is 2.66 oz. per 1 gal of water. However, back label has 3.2 oz. per 1 gallon of water. Would you please clarify how many OZ per one gal water of Weed Stop for Lawn plus Concentrate Crabgrass Killer 5 hr. results, be used for pre emerging and post emerging application. Thanks in advance
That product is not used for pre-emergent control. It is only post-emergent. The granular in the bag is the pre-emergent. I wish I could answer this question for you, but the way I would use the product may be different than you because of my experience. Not knowing your level of experience, I can only refer you to follow the label's directions. That is always the best route to go. I haven't had to use that product in years, so I don't recall the amount I used. Sorry.
We have a “lawn” that is probably 90% assorted weeds with a scattering of grass we haven’t identified yet. We’re new to this area - middle TN, zone 7b, and originally from CA, have never had this much yard to maintain - and too large areas to use a hose-end application without sprinklers to water anything in. I’m guessing we’ll have to stay tuned to the weather forecast before using the granule and spreader application. As we’re in scorching August right now, would it be best to just wait until Spring? I want these weed beasts gone 💣. Love all your videos and easy to understand information!
Glad to hear the videos help. Appreciate you watching em. If it were me, I’d wait until next spring to start. The season still has some time left but not enough imo. Others may disagree. That’s a lot of work to start in august. Hope this helps. Thanks again.
@@BudgetLawns - Thanks for your quick response … any way we can reduce the workload in this heat and humidity is sooo appreciated. We’re excited to finally have a nice grass lawn … instead of mowing a weed field 😂
@@BudgetLawns i watch so many instructional videos on all sorts of things and I never get why they don't do it. If the results are good, if course people will want to see how to achieve them! Just found your channel, subbed and good luck on growing it!
Man, I hate how comments get hidden sometimes and I don't see them till way later. I'm with ya on that. If I'm looking for instruction on something, the first thing I wanna know is did it work. Then tell me how. I don't want to see some long explanation and then have someone tell me it didn't work that great. Sorry, I just now saw this and hollered back. Appreciate the feedback and support. I hope you're still finding useful stuff here. We're growing pretty quickly now so thanks so much!
Great details, however, one thing you did not mention, is "When do you resume watering post application"? I get it, mow, wait 2 days, warm/hot day, spray as the sun is going down, let the weeds absorb the spectricide, (make sure it is not scheduled to rain for a couple days)..Does that mean resume watering on the 3rd day or wait longer? Keep up the Lawn Gospel, we all need a little more Green Wisdom.
Thank you. Yeah, watering on the 3rd day would be just fun. Most folks are just impatient and won't let the product work. Appreciate you pointing this out and your question. 👊
Great information! You are very likable and your production is flawless. Keep up the great videos- However, a kindly meant suggestion? you might make bullet points notes before recording - you tend to ramble and take too long to dish out your gold nuggets of wisdom. People have short attention spans already and tik tok is making it worse. I found it easier to get the gist from the a comments. Trim it down and you’re a star! 😉
Thank you so much. I appreciate the kind words and your suggestions. I hope you’ll check out more of my newer videos. I think you’ll find them shorter and to the point. Thanks again.
You need to make sure you get the product labeled for st Augustine. It has a purple labeled bottle. The orange is not safe for st Augustine. Always check any product label to ensure it’s safe for your grass type and temp ranges. Thanks for watching.
Sir, still not clear ast to when to water. Shut sprinkler off on Sunday. Mow Monday. No watering Tuesdayand Wednesday, spot spray weedkiller Thursday, and I can also water on Thursday?
Thanks for the video. I've got an acre and a half in the country that I mow in Southern Ohio (aka rain forest), surrounded by woods and crop fields. I missed my pre-emergent. I used this as the bottle said and it only discolored my grass. Didn't touch the crabgrass. I'll step it up this time and follow your suggestions. I use a 30gal tank sprayer. If I use a surfactant do you think it would work in about 16 hours before a rain? They are giving rain on and off for another week or so.
That should be enough time to dry. If the crabgrass is mature, it is very hard to kill it with this stuff. You have to catch it early as it’s coming up. Thanks for watching.
I'd probably wait about a week of so. The best thing to do it check what the label says. But for me, I'd time the application and my planting about a week apart. Hope this helps Thanks so much for watching.
I use the granular only for pre-emergent so I water right away. But if using for post-emergent, you need to follow the label. I'd wait a day or two if possible. Thanks for watching.
First I'm here because DADing all day mentioned you, just subscribed. Second I use the post emergent twice and I didn't got good results. I have heard many youtubers praising it so the product does work. I believe I did a correct application but will look at my journal to see if I can spot any issue.
Awesome. Dadding all Day is a great channel. He puts out some fantastic stuff. Sorry you didn't have good results with the product. A journal is a great way to keep up. I appreciate ya watching and your comments. Thanks for coming over to check things out and subscribing.
One thing I’ve been doing the last few seasons that seems to really help is throwing down a light quick release fert, like a 10-10-10. Helps make sure my good grass doesn’t get to stressed while tricking the weeds and crab grass into up taking more “nutrients” but really it’s the weed killer it’s drinking up 😂
Hey there new sub here thanks to striperman , Ive used this in the past its a pretty good product. I use the 1 gallon ready to spray for post to do some spot spraying with never hurts the lawn at all , but not very effective on clover . Thanks for the great content.
Once it's dry, it's safe for pets according to the label. I keep my dog off for at least 24 hours though. If your dogs eat grass, that might be a different story. IMO July is too hot to spray for weeds. It can stress the grass. But you can always follow the label and give it a shot. Thanks for watching.
I put down new bermuda sod, and had yellow nutsedge grow in like crazy. I used the hose end spray just how you recommended and it completely killed the nutsedge perfectly. However is turned the area I sprayed a bit brown...does that eventually go away??
It can turn bermuda brown and will usually go away. I don't like to spray new sod in the first year, especially if it's not rooted really well. You should be fine but just keep an eye on it if it's brand new. Regardless, it'll be ok in the long run. Thanks for watching.
Appreciate you watching! Good luck in the lawn this season. Glad to have ya here on the channel. For what it's worth, I'm just an average homeowner who loves the Spectracide brand with no affiliation whatsoever with the company. No affiliate links. Never a dime made on my channel from sharing the products I use. Thanks again.
I agree with going heavy when using this as a pre emergent only. It basically is Dimension (dythiopyr) .16% (it’s expensive) vs the more commercial oriented brands at .21% so going roughly 1/3 /33% more or taking the label bag rate of 3.6# per 1000 sq ft x 1.33= 4.78# per 1000 sq ft. Essentially a 10# 3000 sq ft bag is really 2000 sq ft worth
This is great info. I’m attempting to take care of my lawn instead of paying a big company to come out and do it... do you have a video on timing of aeration and fertilization/overseedig after weed killing?
Awesome. Thank you. Glad you found it helpful. You can absolutely do it yourself. I've got videos about most topics. I have bermuda, so to answer your questions, you need to keep in mind your grass type since different rules will apply. Thanks again. Quick question man we take care of 80+ lawns and sometimes it’s a pain in the ass with the price of weed killer what would you recommend us to do to control these 80+ lawns from weeds
You may wanna look into bulk commercial products. Might cost more up front but will stretch the dollar further than these homeowner ones will. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Never really gave them a shot. Next year they will be in my crosshairs. Great price. Great value! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience brother. Great video!
My guess is the weed stop that states"crabgrass killer" is the only one that really works¿? I've tried the concentrate that says"nutsedge" butt nothing at all... And yes it was applied properly,,,2 times¿
Newbie here. I killed grass/weeds late last year. I then seeded and grew grass in patches along with weeds. Almost 2 weeks ago, I applied the weed stop and it is working. Still some weeds but a huge improvement. Do you recommend to reseed? If so when? Or recommend something else?
Great video as always. I plan on getting my sod lawn in better shape this season. When is the best time to use a weed kill, a firtilizer and over seeding with a hybrid Bermuda seed? It's January in south Texas. I don't know which order they go in and I'm looking for your expertise here. It's alot to ask any help greatly appreciated
Thank you. You'll be much warmer before me in Spring. Here, I wouldn't weed kill or fertilize until sometime in May when It warms up into the 80s steadily. So whenever that would be for you and when your grass is about 75% greened up if it went dormant. I would not overseed bermuda at all. It will spread on its own for you. Hope this helps. Thanks again.
Can anyone tell me if the spectracide weed stop granulated version would kill short sago palms if I treated a bed they are in? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
You'll want to kill the weeds first then wait a couple weeks or more to spread your seed. You want to make sure the area is relatively clear of the dead material. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Depends on when you do the weed app. I've done a weed app and fertilized on the same day with an organic that didn't have to be watered in. Best time for fertilizer though is when the bermuda is about 75% greened up. Hope this helps man. Thanks so much for watching and your question.
Thank you so much for this video. Informative and to the point. I’m trying to get my front yard under control. I got a bottle of post emergent and put it down a week ago and have great results so far. Probably going to need a second dose in another week but so far so good!
Hey ya'll i live in southeast tx Houston ...i'm trying to get rid of DOLLAR WEEDS FRM HELL using Spectracide Weed n Feed 20-0-0 is this wrong #1 #2 this is mymothers house now the yard man has been spraying keeping the dollar weeds down but its not working is there something else i can do other than the Weed n Feed 20-0-0 ?
It’s already mid June in Seattle and we don’t have a single day over 70 in the next week, how long to reapply again if first time doesn’t work? :( my lawn is completely covered in weeds as I recently bought the house and it was neglected for a while during the sale, I really want to keep the weeds under control and build up the turf again.

Thank you man. That means a lot. Glad to have you here and glad to be subbed to yours!
Nice video, keep them coming brother.
Appreciate ya man! You got it!
I’ve learned so much from your videos! And yes I subscribed for sure!!!!
Awesome. So great to hear. Thank you very much!
I would just be focused on regular mowing throughout the rest of this season.
Awesome video!!
Keep em coming!
Thank you. Appreciate ya!
Very accurate assumption about the before and after, at the beginning. Exactly why i watched the entire thing!
Right on! I was hoping it had the intended effect. I appreciate the feedback and you watching all the way through!
After a did PE in Abril, what and when i can use next?
Great content!🎉
Thank you. Hard to answer that question. Lots of other variables at play.
You’re the only guy to say to mow. I thought it would be a good idea to mow and other videos said that it would spread.
Excellent video. Thank you!
Appreciate ya!
I need to use the granules first? Or can I use the spray to pre and post emergent?
Good video
Thanks so much.
Thank you for important info. 👍🏻
You’re welcome. Thank you!
If I use this to spot treat in a flower bed, how long should I wait until it’s safe to plant new flowers?
I'd probably wait about a week of so. The best thing to do it check what the label says. But for me, I'd time the application and my planting about a week apart. Hope this helps Thanks so much for watching.
Really helpful video! Just wondering how often I should use Spectracide Weed Stop Plus Crabgrass Killer. Just once a year?
Thank you. Glad it helps. Use it when necessary but always follow the label.
When can I resume watering the lawn after application (granules)?
I use the granular only for pre-emergent so I water right away. But if using for post-emergent, you need to follow the label. I'd wait a day or two if possible. Thanks for watching.
Thanks, I so needed this!
Right on. Glad it could help. Appreciate ya!
Bagging would be a good option also👍👍👍👍
👍👍
First I'm here because DADing all day mentioned you, just subscribed. Second I use the post emergent twice and I didn't got good results. I have heard many youtubers praising it so the product does work. I believe I did a correct application but will look at my journal to see if I can spot any issue.
Awesome. Dadding all Day is a great channel. He puts out some fantastic stuff. Sorry you didn't have good results with the product. A journal is a great way to keep up. I appreciate ya watching and your comments. Thanks for coming over to check things out and subscribing.
Very informative
Thank you. Much appreciated!
One thing I’ve been doing the last few seasons that seems to really help is throwing down a light quick release fert, like a 10-10-10. Helps make sure my good grass doesn’t get to stressed while tricking the weeds and crab grass into up taking more “nutrients” but really it’s the weed killer it’s drinking up 😂
😆😆👍👍
When is the best time to apply weed killer. Before or after a cut?
A day or two after. Thanks for watching.
Loads of good info!! 🤙🏼
Thanks dude. Appreciate ya watching!
Hey there new sub here thanks to striperman , Ive used this in the past its a pretty good product. I use the 1 gallon ready to spray for post to do some spot spraying with never hurts the lawn at all , but not very effective on clover . Thanks for the great content.
Awesome! Thank you for subbing. Keith is the man! This community is blessed to have him. Appreciate the feedback and compliment. Glad to have ya here!
Budget Lawns yeah keep the videos coming always love to learn something new
@@Aerialphotovito You got it!
How safe is the spray for pets? My dogs eat grass. Will it hurt them? It's now July in North Idaho, is it too late to spray?
Once it's dry, it's safe for pets according to the label. I keep my dog off for at least 24 hours though. If your dogs eat grass, that might be a different story. IMO July is too hot to spray for weeds. It can stress the grass. But you can always follow the label and give it a shot. Thanks for watching.
I just spread granular and spot sprayed. Glad I watched this vid cos I planned on watering tmrw 😂
Thanks for watching.
intense sale here, right or wrong? ya gotta luv it? I say YES as a rookie lawn care guy. ;)
Im using a 21 gallon pull behind lawn sprayer and using weed stop + crabgrass killer. How many Oz of concentrate do I use per gallon of water??
Follow the label. I go max rate what the label says. 👍👍
I live in Bradenton Fl and the ground temp is 70 degrees most of the time . What temp should the ground be to get best results Pls ??
If it’s warm like that most of the time, you should have good results just about whenever I’d think.
Well said!
Thank you!
👍👍 2 bags on 4K sqft worked like a charm on the old lawn. Thanks for breaking down the math man. It’s not my thing haha. 👊👊
I liked that at the end
If your in a warm place and already started....then good for you!
LOL you know you jealous!
Haha, yeaaahhh, maybe just a little. Starting to get that lawn itch for sure. Thanks so much!
Here's a few for ya.

Any tips on getting rid of Virginia Buttonweed?
Nothing more than what I laid out in the video. Sorry. Thanks for watching.
@@BudgetLawns appreciation !
Never really gave them a shot. Next year they will be in my crosshairs. Great price. Great value! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience brother. Great video!
Awesome man! I don't think they'll disappoint ya if you end up going with one. Appreciate ya brother!
Yes sirrrrrrrr!
Thanks for watching.
Can't use it here in Texas because of the quinclorac. I use the non-crabgrass stuff and it works well.
Fantastic point. I’ll be doing a video on that difference soon! Thanks for sharing!
My guess is the weed stop that states"crabgrass killer" is the only one that really works¿? I've tried the concentrate that says"nutsedge" butt nothing at all... And yes it was applied properly,,,2 times¿
👍👍
HI can this be applied while we are having heavy rain ? North NJ here our weather has just started to heat up;
You need dry weather for at least 24 hours. Thanks for watching.
Awesome. Good job. Depends on your grass type. Warm season turfs will fill in on their own where most cool season grasses won’t, with few exceptions.
When is it to cool to apply Specracide granules?
I only use it for pre emergent in September, January, and March. Try to time it before rain to be watered in. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Good info and video. Thanks for sharing
Thank you. I appreciate that. Lots more coming this season. Hope you'll join us for more.
Great and simple information. How often should I use preemergent during the year?
Thank you. Glad you find it helpful. I replied to your other comment with my preemergent schedule. Thanks so much.
I think Ortho and Bayer products are better. Nevertheless, I like your channel and your presentation.
Fair enough. Thanks so much. Appreciate ya.
I felt like i was at an arkansas razorbacks astro turf seminar great analysis, go hogs.
Right on. Thank you. WPS 👊🏈
Great video. Do you have a favorite spreader for fert and/or seeds? Thanks!
Appreciate ya. I like the Earthway Even Spread. Thanks again!
Can anyone tell me if the spectracide weed stop granulated version would kill short sago palms if I treated a bed they are in? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
When should I apply after i rennovated/oversseded during the fall (sept)
I came down with bad case of weeds on my lawn. If I use one of these 2 products how soon can I use milorganite? Thanks for your help.
I used milo and the post-emergent on the same day! Appreciate ya watching.
Hi thank you for the great info, im basically starting from scratch do i kill weeds first then try grass seeds? Or at same time? I’m in Orlando
You'll want to kill the weeds first then wait a couple weeks or more to spread your seed. You want to make sure the area is relatively clear of the dead material. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Budget Lawn Guy what is the best time to put down fertilizer after doing the weed application.
Depends on when you do the weed app. I've done a weed app and fertilized on the same day with an organic that didn't have to be watered in. Best time for fertilizer though is when the bermuda is about 75% greened up. Hope this helps man. Thanks so much for watching and your question.
Thank you
You're welcome! Thank you. Appreciate you watching!
Thank you so much for this video. Informative and to the point. I’m trying to get my front yard under control. I got a bottle of post emergent and put it down a week ago and have great results so far. Probably going to need a second dose in another week but so far so good!
Awesome. Glad you found it helpful. Sounds like you're on the right track. Keep up the great work. Appreciate you watching!
Great vid bro. Been following for a bit now. Keep reminding everyone to subscribe n hit the bell.
Appreciate you! Thanks for the feedback and reminder! I do need to get more consistent with that.
Give the liquid post emergent I talk about in this video a shot. Thanks for watching. Good luck!
It's recommended to wait 2 weeks between applications. Good luck. You'll get there. Thanks for watching.
