- Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at what appears to be the newest live-service slop of this year known as "Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League." Why Rocksteady and WB decided to release this game with an online only requirement when they're own servers can't handle a smaller player load is beyond me. Thanks for watching!

I live in a rural area and lose Internet connection regularly. Tons of people live with similar problems. Forcing games to be online only is such a ridiculous mistake.

Pirates have always found a way and I doubt this game will be an exception. The video game industry has turned it's back on average gamers and is completely focused on players willing to spend extra money on in game purchases. Actual content was put on the back burner nearly a decade ago.

They will tell you its to prevent cheating, in their singleplayer game, but we all know its because it prevents modding. By keeping it online only then the only way to get fun cosmetics or new content is to pay them for it. That online shop/Microtransactions are the ONLY reason its online only.

It doesn’t prevent modding or cheating just makes it more difficult and makes the game have a expiration date(yes the servers will go Down eventually and you won’t be able to play it )

I don't know why companies keep making always online games. It's much cheaper to not have a ton of software straining a server. Servers aren't cheap.

Yeah actually servers are pretty damn cheap these days, I currently run a bunch of minecraft servers for my friends using AWS's free tier t1xsmall server
Apparently my friends can install crazy mod packs and still play with no lag and 20ms ping (I don't actually know how impressive that is, I've never played Minecraft), they keep insisting that if they wanted to pay for this it would cost them like $40/mo
but it's literally free for me
i think the main expense, then, is hiring a unix sysadmin like me to manage your servers. the actual servers themselves are basically free

If any game is online-only without any real reason to be, it's 99% of the time due to its DRM. Namely; Denuvo. Which this game has.
For denuvo, an internet connection is only required at first launch, and then that's it, they leave you alone. It's not a denuvo issue right there
Persona has Denuvo. I play it offline mode on steam. Never had a problem with it stopping me from playing the game.

@@graye2799 The game startup is done while on offline mode, with no internet connection on my pc. It still never gave me any issues really. Unless somehow they did something while I downloaded it, by that point, I think it is fair game, since it doesn't intervene with the gameplay in any way

There should be no reason for a Wii U Arkham game to run better on release than this, but they made sure to let you know there were gonna be cosmetics before the game released! Fr. The justice league was the best written part of the game. Not how they died but how they were characterized before and after the mindwipe. Supes in the justice league museum thing was amazing. You can see he does little things like lean down to where the kids would be and then pretend to whisper that he’s not from earth. He’s really human. And that speech Harley gives to Bats before shooting him in his bulletproof cowl was awful lmao

Dude, Harley Quinn is one of the worst characters in all of modern media. She is only second to Jar Jar Binks but it's getting close. Someone tried to tell me she was hot!! lol NO. Muta paid 100 USD (not sure canadian conversion) for two minutes of gameplay. What a shame. As it is devs want to increase the price for games, buying a game now feels like donating with the hope of getting the full product 6 months AFTER release.
That's if you buy western AAA slop. As a Nintendo gamer and a fan of JRPGs I've barely ever COME CLOSE to the awful state of western AAA games and when I do like with Immortals Fenix Rising or Spiderman PS4 I'm disapointed. Nintendo, SEGA, a few other companies, and Indies are KILLING IT right now. Of course, Square has made some really dumb decisions recently, Capcom ignores everything that isn't Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Monster Hunter, and a lot of Indies are now trash focused more on "diversity" and "being deep emotional journeys" rather than having fun gameplay. But there's still TONS of amazing games coming out every year outside of the western AAA slop. As long as you focus on Eastern games and the Indies you're interested in, you should be good. Nintendo recently has been killing it with games such as ToTK, Xenoblade 3, Mario Wonder, Pikmin 4, etc and Square's big mainline releases are finally good again like Octopath 2, the FFVII Remake Trilogy, FFXVI, KH3, etc.

Some games are tailored for teamwork, like Destiny 2 or Elder Scroll Online, even GTA V Online.
Some games can be played solo like Path of Exile, World of Tanks, War Thunder and a lot more. It is always online however entry and progress persistent is handed out for free so basically if the server goes down tomorrow, player loses nothing technically speaking.
And then there are games like Payday 3, Grand Turismo 7, Diablo 4 and I think Diablo 3 as well, and this Suicide Squad: they all have a common thing: User paid money for them, that they have a single player, but no always online and f you if you gets disconnected. Sayonara! You paid $60 to be here and we don't care if you play solo and gets disconnected lol.
Internet is not bread and water people. Internet is wine, it is a luxury. It is a hard dependencies that is being abused in modern gaming, and we as gamers should not encourage this type of practice.

From my very limited understanding of how online video games work, they probably have some sort of offline beta/alpha, but programmed the later parts of the game with online functionality heavily integrated which would made it harder to make an offline version after the fact. It's p obvious to me that they never really intended for this game to be offline until ppl bitched about it.
Well, when they never intended it to have an offline mode until enough noise was made for them to go into panic mode, it’s probably harder to do.
This was always going to be a live service Fortnite Model disaster.

It's not hard at all to code an offline mode into a game that was designed with it intended; they never intended to include it.
The reason why they are having trouble is because of the way the game is saved, some things are server-side. They usually
do this to stop people cheating items in, so their server has to create and verify the "1337 Gun 9000" instead of cheating it in.

There’s a $60 usd game that’s coming out at the same time as this game called Granblue Fantasy Relink which has multiple playable characters, 4 player Co-op, raids, boss fights and a story mode. Also you are allowed to play this game online AND offline.

A singleplayer story-driven rated r suicide squad game in the spirit of - and with the passion and level to detail put into - the Arkham franchise could’ve worked and captured the spirit of the comics for once: unpredictable, daring and bloody. It's kinda insane to think buying a relatively expensive product on launch is considered a gamble these days because you might not even be able to play
I'll be honest, I had issues with all of the arkham games on PC when they first came out. Arkham City had a horrible issue where it would randomly corrupt my save file, could be 1 minute in or 8 hours in never knew. It was about a year before an update fixed the issue and I could play it through. Arkham Knight would crash on the first boss, and that's when I basically gave up because I figured it would be another year before I could play it. Never did go back to that one. Also stopped buying games until they'd been out for a while and were on sale because by then they were either fixed or never would be.
The most fun I had with this game was deleting it. Comparatively, it was exhilarating
That sucks. I'm 56 and it kinda feels like my gaming days might be behind me but I remember the enjoyment I'd have for hours and hours and hours with games that ran like clockwork. These days with the games so expensive and gameplay limited to online sessions I think I might be better off which is saddening considering the technology and talent that're involved. I hope there are still games that you and your buds can enjoy together, hopefully on a single machine, in a single room, purchased a single time.
The indie scene is fantastic to satisfy those needs. If you ever feel like getting back to gaming and you want some more recent games, indie is the way to go.
The scope is smaller than in AAA games, but that usually means their vision is much more focused.

The funny thing about the Batman death scene that shows a real lack of attention is that Harley's gun is a modified Chiappa Rhino, a revolver. Why do we then hear a shell eject and hit the ground after she shoots him, its a real small thing but i think it matters somewhat in cut scenes

The servers were never working properly Muta. Out of the 1 year of me working with it, it'd be a miracle if the servers didn't shit themselves more than twice a week. Most of the testers had to either host their local servers or just force offline (because there was an option to ofc)
What makes me so disappointed that this is set in the Arkham verse it could’ve been fine if it was elseworld.
But it being “canon.” To the Arkham Verse is literally to give the game attention and it’s a big slap in the face to the Arkham fans.
When the original team left Rocksteady this game was a big red flag from the very beginning.

I was turned off from it the moment they revealed the premise and gameplay being a looter-shooter, then it being live-service. After Avenger's I'm not surprised about the reception having some controversy but damn, didn't expect this much of a critique, Rocksteady really ruined all that they had set up.
As someone who has bad internet because of the area I live in, always online is a huge turn off.
The people who created the Arkham games pretty much all left, and apparently a rocksteady co-founder left because of this game. This current iteration didn't set up anything... They stole and retconned.
At least Avengers was the first game in a franchise, it wasn’t pissing on an old and loved one.

I really wish I knew WTF they were thinking when they redesigned her. Her black/red jester outfit was an absolute classic and worked well for her. Not this creepy clown/cheerleader hybrid.

Ive seen so many reviews and it seems all a developer needs to do for Muta to like is just make the game work without constantly crashing or bugging.

@@bohxan1746One, they likely convinced Kevin that this game is in part of the Arkham Asylum games universe, so they want consistency and totally not trying to cash off a popular game series and voice actor.
Two, the whole mind controlling thing giving a reason for Batman to not be in the right mind, so he can technically say whatever.
Three, Kevin had worked with Rocksteady before and likely gave voice line when the game didn’t have any gameplay, but a promising premise at the time

I'm hooked up into Monster Hunter recently. You always start the game online , however when you lose connection (which happenes to me often) it just switch into ofline mode and everything is working fine. That game is also like 5 years old or something.
The entire monster hunter series can be played offline as well, not just world. Most of them default to playing offline as well, but anytime you want to you can join up and have a four player party to hunt with. Highly recommend rise and sunbreak, the online is a lot better and the game is super fun
You know a game is bad when:
1: Jon from Many a True Nerd(some ppl may know) the human positivity itself badmouths a game cuz he never does or says anything negative
2: Muta from SomeOrdinaryGamers makes a video about how bad a game is,while not the embodiment of positivity itself Muta never makes a video about something being bad unless that something is REALLY goddam bad.
The last one I bought was in 2012. It was called Diablo III and I took 4 days off work to play it starting on the day of release. Thanks to server issues, I was able to play it for about 6 hours before I had to go back to work. It was the last online-only "single player" game I bought, and also the last Blizzard game I bought.
I regret nothing.
Diablo 3 was the game that made me forever stop buying online required games. The game was so intense my internet would die from how much of a connection it would need. Which you can't really fix that, I have a single provider and never gonna get a new provider. My only hope for a new provider is dead because Verizon decided to embrace wireless so stopped laying new cable. I don't want 5G I want a wired connection to where I live.
This is why the console version of D3 was the superior choice. I would've waited on that one if I knew in advance it was planned. On any of the console versions, you actually *don't* need to be online to play the game, unless you count "seasonal" stuff, of course.

I hate games that say offline mode, but still you need to connect to a server. And as you said, not all your friends can play all the games with you all the time, so I mostly play solo, so online is the less important part of a game for me. Not buying this game under this conditions.
I am so sick of always online. It drives me absolutely insane.

Delaying the finished game by a year just so they could rip out as much of the live service as possible because of the terrible reception it was getting was sure a pretty big neon signpost.
Honestly if it wasn't always online I'd probably give it a shot for 1and 59 minutes to see if it was actually fun. I'm not chucking money at a game that I can't play though given how many other actually good games I can play instead. I don't mind giving any kind of game a shot but it's pointless even test driving something that is going to crap out before I can get a proper handle on whether I'm enjoying it or not.
