    I liked this OVA series and watched it multiple times actually. It has its flaws and I really wanted more Akito content. Leila is making a cameo in the CG Rozé of the Recapture sequel series and I expect Akito will have one too.

    Hey I don't want to pretend that I am a genius who cracked the code, but I really liked the show and I interpret the geass in this way. The geass is the collective mind of all of humanity in all of time even the dead, so it could have its own concience and it would fight for the wellbeing of humanity manifesting itself (because we are talking about Japan) as a Waifu and giving a user (Leia) the code to acess the conceince of other people and manifesting it fisically

    Say what you want about the story, the mecha animation is so unique and fun to watch, I would still highly recommend the series just based on that

    Oh man that Ohio train derailment reference. lol
    But yeah I think you explained in detail of the many ways why I didn't care for the spin off OVA series all that much.
    OG Code Geass fan here and this outing was disappointing, but I do like how we got to see a different side to the main conflict of Code Geass. And you are correct in that 86 was better at telling this kind of story and I did like that better as a whole. I'm not a diehard C.G. fan like some people can be, I know when I see gold when I see it, and when I see rubbish I don't care as much for it...
    Glad I got to see a fresh review of this from a newer fan's perspective. Hopefully we'll get some new code geass content that's in anime form that's not a mobile gacha game or a one shot OVA basically...

    Your the first anime youtuber since Gigguk back in 2012 to break through the barriers of my ADHD and get me to sit down and watch a 20 minute youtube video in one sitting. Take a subscribe for that.
    So your video is a year old and you probably have no intention of discussing all your extra thoughts on Akito but if by some chance you revisit this series I will watch any video you make on it. I just finished watching it and need to get this off my chest, so here it goes:
    I honestly really liked Akito the Exiled, but for purely subjective reasons. Objectively speaking its not that great and I agree with a lot of your points about it. But I am also a huge sucker for action anime with a good romantic subplot and Akito hit the spot. Also I finished 86 a while ago and this is the closest anime has come to fill the gap 86 left when the anime finished.
    I think Akito's biggest issue was that it was to ambitious for its runtime. It had 5 OVA movies to tell its story, each about an hour long. Much like Lelouch of the Rebellion Akito has plot lines revolving around geass powers and political turmoil except Lelouch of the Rebellion had 50 episodes and Akito the Exiled had the equivalent of 15 anime episodes. There is no way it was going to have time to cram everything in. However, I can't hate a show for being too ambitious especially when I like what its doing.
    The show left me with so many theories, ideas, and questions. Like that geass “god’ My guess is that this was the same god that appeared in Lelouch of the Rebellion but I am not sure. But this god refers to Shin’s geass as corrupt and his was bestowed to him by some weird skull thing, so was that a god too? Is there some sort of cosmic struggle over humans and geass? Then there is Leila and her geass. I searched the Internet and apparently her geass can “connect peoples consciousness “ which is...interesting. Its a contrast to the geass of other characters that we have seen; most of which revolve around a form of control over someone else. So Leila manifests a geass that is very different from what we have seen, gets a visit from “God” who does her a solid, and then...nothing. She just...retires? What was the point? I thought this show was gonna set her up in opposition to Lelouch in some way. That they would come into conflict or that she would have a role to play following the events of Lelouch of the Rebellion, but nope the series just ended there.
    I really don't need or want a show to explain everything to me, but I think Akito’s leftover plot threads just wound up feeling more like a mess that the writers didn't have time clean up rather than a proper expansion to the world. The show could have been great if it had time to explore its ideas or maybe if another entry in the Code Geass franchise picked up where Akito left off but I don't see that happening. Its a shame instead of more spin offs to improve on what Akito started we are just getting sequels in some alternate timeline that ruins the original Code Geass ending for me. I had hopes for Roze of the Recapture but I think its also set in that alternate timeline. I guess I will just sit here and think about what could have been. Or just go and watch 86 again.

    Thanks for clearing my confusion. I tried to watch the first movie but was utterlly confused why the britanians where fighting the europeans or why the europeans where racist to eleven. Who was fighting who and why. And the response it does not matter because the whole thing is a chaotic soup tha just don't make sense the way is show.

    • @Cynwale
      @Cynwale 29 дней назад

      Exactly, Europeans are racists for the sake of racism, rich people are evil for the sake of being evil.
      Just so that Leila is justified in everything, they even make strawman arguments in the show so that they do not have to actually make political arguments for the side of anti-racism bs.
      Seriously, I had to stop watching it the moment the "Lelouch" like guy published his propaganda after destroying the plant, then suddenly all the racists bigots French losers started destroying everything because they're haters and easily controllable.
      If I wasn't that far fetched, I'd say the maker of this show is pretty racist against our people, and I dare him to come and argue with me to see what racism truly is.

    To be fair, areal mechs weren't invented at the time this series is supposed to be placed in.
    Also, this series is like a todler's imagination of Code Geass after consuming a cocktail of acid and meth.
    You should do a video on Lelouch of the Resurrection. It was actually kinda good! The summary/other dimension movies that preceded it was not, but the resurrection movie was good. My headcanon just skip from the original show to resurrection without all the "alternate universe" bullshit.. Why are the Code Geass creators that risk adverse?

    To be honest, when i knew that Lelouch is not the main character of the short series, i immediately have low expectations and won't be surprised that it won't be as a banger as the main series. And yes, there are bumps here and there and the geass here is really confusing but i actually enjoyed quite a lot. Maybe because I treated as a completely different show and that's why i didn't compare it with the actual code geass. Just like you, i thought that it has the same vibe as 86 but instead of looking at it and complain why they didn't take advantage the premise just like you said, i took as an inspiration of 86 and make the spin off more well written and great character development. Now that i think about it, the author of 86 mustve been a huge fan of code geass and thought there's a lot of potential in the akito the exiled spin off and if he did, he actually did justice to this unfortunate spin off that they've wasted a lot potential to explore Europia. Anyways, you earned a sub and I'm looking forward for your future vids

    I saw this ova 3 years ago. Eventhough Confusing as hell I didn't hate it. At least not as much I HATED it's background theme choice during it's mecha battle.
    There is just one instrument (I think Saxaphone or something...I don't know.) kept playing in a chaotic manner during all the mecha battles.

      Nah dude I really enjoyed the freeform trumpet jazz BGM, although they probably did overuse it a bit. Gundam: Thunderbolt did do that musical concept a thousand times better though; I highly recommend trying it if you haven't. Also my opinion is probably influenced by the fact that I play trumpet but still.

    i watched it in bed for the first time last night and was up for an extra 30 minutes annoyed with how bad it was and how baffling it ended i just couldnt believe the nonsense i was forced to watch. Im glad i wasnt the only one baffle by this show, but unlike yourself i can hate this, i love Code Geass despite some writing issues and this OVA adds nothing of value but more confusing questions. Nice vid though

    I watched these movies today and enjoyed them, but I definitely agree that they have a lot of problems, especially at the end.
    One aspect, where I see a lot more potential is Leila‘s relationship to the Malcal family.
    Like, we had two scenes with her brothers.
    In the first one at the party, we see her brother Ioan as an asshole, that provokes Leila and doesn’t care about her. She was just someone, his parents adopted, so that he can marry her. Because they want connections to her influential name.
    In the second scene, he calls her to give her the info that Lelouch, ehh I mean Julius talks only bullshit. But this time he actually cares about her as a sister and wants her to go home.
    Like, cool that a character gets a redemption, but where did this come from. We got zero scenes between these two, to explain why he changed his mind.
    And it would have also been cool to see Leila reuniting with him and the rest of the family in the end scene, with them working on their relationship. And I would have also liked to see Leila‘s relationship to her adoptive parents.
    Just my thoughts.

    The logic you use is honestly laughable, by this logic then you shouldn't like S1 and S2 of the anime either, i had to force myself to watch the whole video to the. Plese don't talk about Akito the Exiled again, leave it to someone more qualified on the story and lore! Don't get me wrong you make some good points, but it's those same point that are so contradictory cause they can be applied to S1 and S2 of the anime, so why go so out of your way to bag on AtE but not do the same for LotR? Makes no sense smh.... edit: and I'm not just saying this to be all negative but Code Geass LotR is in my top 5 anime, I've watched S1 and S2 from start to end going on about 5 or 6 times by now, and Akito about 3 times, and even i wouldn't consider myself qualified enough, maybe after 1 more watch through of each and reading the manga minimum 2 times then yeah, but still if i ever made an analysis on ANYTHING, mandatory watch and read twice over, you'll always catch things you missed in the first viewing and actions and reason why people did what they did click because of the first watch trough

    • @guillermodiaz7545
      @guillermodiaz7545 4 месяца назад +1

      and there is nothing wrong with disliking AtE but if your gonna make a video bashing it at least use points that cannot be applied to LotR there are as many IF NOT MORE plot holes and convenient moments that fit into its story, just like AtE
