Yes thank-you I'm good at painting landscapes but I'm trying flowers and I've really been struggling until I listen to your instructions yes now I could play around for hours..Thank-you so very much..your the best teacher ever..
I can't believe I stumbled on to your channel. I've tried to learn watercolor and failed twice before. But I wanted to try again. You got through to the part of my brain that allowed me to make a 5 petal flower that has alluded me for days. I cannot thank you enough for helping me see with my eyes, then do with my brush. I can't wait to watch more tutorials.
Thank you for sharing your talent online. I am a beginner- and love your technique and step by step instructions.I am also working on my British accent too🥰 Suzy in Ohio.
These are completely beautiful, thank you for your lovely generosity in sharing your gifts and skills. You are an especially good teacher. I like the way you encourage learners. Thank you so very much! 🌸👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏆
I received a message that your book has shipped to me today. Thank you for your instructive videos. Your voice is so soothing and pleasing to listen to.
Hey, Harriet I came to know from the other site that u are an award winning artist and I was really happy to see u teaching in RUclips for free. U are so nice from heart ♥.....
I really enjoy your tutorials and I've just purchased your wonderful book. I'm a beginner and need to push through the frustration of messing things up, but I am practicing. I'm a gardener in Maine, U.S.A. Eventually I want to paint realistic flowers but your loose flowers are lovely and a great start. Thank you so much.
I love the petals however I'm not a fan of orange and pink. Lol. The teaching is spot on n I love all you do here on RUclips. I think I'm spending my afternoon with you learning all I can and practicing all I can.
This was challenging but satisfying :-) Thank you. As always your fabulous book is beside me as I work. I encourage everyone to get the paperback as it’s one of those books which is so lovely in the hand.
Ah thanks so much. Yes this type of painting is much easier to do on screen as it needs to be wet at all times. The book is always a handy companion. thank you!
Heaps of thanks for these very clear, most helpful tutorials! I'm just beginning to discover watercolor painting and your tutorials are very inspirational and encouraging!
Thank you for wonderful tutorial. I painted along with your instructions and it was so beautiful, I understood every bit nicely and had fun while painting.😀❣️
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial! I've never used watercolours and I'm really pleased with my first efforts. I look forward to watching more of them :)
Thank you for sharing such clear instructions! Love watching you paint and I want to practice this soon! Right now it’s bedtime but watch out tomorrow morning here I come!!💕
Wonderful tips, as usual! I would love in the future to see a lesson on connecting stems to their flowers and how to make everything look natural rather than a little stiff or awkward. Sometimes it's easy to find a natural "connecting point," but other times it's less obvious where the stem should emerge from the flower.
Hi Kim, you will be pleased to know that i have two detailed flower painting project coming up this week. Later today the Buttercup botanical painting tutorial will be live! I will always talk through the best way to have flower head and stem connect when doing these detailed pieces. Thanks so much for watching!
Lovely, would appreciate if you could mention the different brush sizes more often. I watch your videos and then I can’t wait to paint them. Your attention to detail makes a big difference. Thank you Harriet.
Lovely flowers! I'm enjoying really much your videos! I'm new on this and thanks to you I want to buy better brushes to start with a nice practice! Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for such a wonderful tutorial, it was just what I needed. I’ve just ordered your book New Botanical Painting and I can’t wait to see it. BTW I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️
Hi Harriet! I’m about to get a new set of miniature pro arte brushes, and I wondered what’s the difference between the Masterstroke miniature series 60 and the series MP miniature? I would really appreciate your advice, as I’ve just started painting and I’ve got no clue about brushes! 🙈 thanks for sharing! 💕
Hi Florencia, the main difference, as far as I'm aware is the thickness of the handle. The miniature MP series have a thicker handle which some people prefer. I have found the bristles - in my opinion - to be pretty similar so it's all about whether you prefer a slim or thick handle!
Thanks so much, it's great to have a demonstration alongside reading your book. In the cherry blossom tutorial, the petals have roughly the same level of colour saturation; can you share a tip on how to achieve this rather than having the first petal quite nice and colourful and the last petal really pale?
Love your tutorials. Just really getting started and hoping to paint more when retired. Any recommendations for paints. I have purchased your brushes. Thank you for sharing your talent
Hi Donna, there are so many paint brands to choose from but the important thing is to go for the higher ‘artist’ or ‘professional’ quality batch that any brand does as opposed to their student ranges
I learnt a lot from your tutorial. I spent the best part of today struggling with flowers and then ending up crying my eyes out at not getting what I was hoping to. I will try your technique and tag you when I've finished. Just one question if I may. You used black. How is it that your flower didn't go muddy when you added black? Knowing my luck I'd get nothing but mud if I used black for the center of a flower...
This IS amazing !! Thank you!! Love the technique. I have been struggling with color running out in the center. Is the paint more of a creamy constancy?
I'm calling my first sheet of flowers: "The easiest bunch of squashed spiders" It's going to take a bit of time before I get the hang of smooshing my brush down/release. Also.. my centre dot is nearly dry by the time I get to the 3rd petal! Any tips? (is it my paint, water, all of the above?) by the time I complete a flower, and attempt to drop in the contrast colour, it's too dry to flow.
You can do it! It will come with practise! I think the more you do the faster you will get to get around before it dries. Experiment with using a bit more water but be careful not to flood the page.
I have enjoyed this immensely...although I’m starting to think I’m more suited to less ‘loose’ botanicals...my loose ones seem very...un uniform...some look loose...some just look a mess🤣
I often go between loose and 'less loose'. I think my happy place is with a bit more detail which is where most of my flower painting tutorials lie. So glad you're enjoying them!
de Winton Paper Co. thanks Harriet...as a relative newbie...it’s very difficult to find where your ‘style’ lies....whilst I enjoy loose...im very pedantic and therefore think I’m more on the structured side. Probably my biggest difficulty at the moment is paper! For learners...cheap paper is the best option...but the results are not going to be the same and can be discouraging...i practice on cheap then move up and up and up lol🤣 however...I get frustrated with most tutorials...but not with yours and find im happy to pause and practice over and over...great job! I will be doing many more❤️

It’s all about letting the paint do it’s thing and don’t poke it about too much with your brush. You’ll get it!

You can do it!
bellissimi

I love the colors of your palete, what kind of brand is that?
I use a mix of Winsor and Newton and daler rowney
If you could only afford 8 of the winsor professional watercolor tubes, which would you buy and consider a staple?
Check out my Watercolour Quick Fix playlist where I list the five most important colours in my kit!
That brush you use for the stems what is it?
Brush details are in the episode notes
